Dems, you’ve lost the high ground

Fascism! has achieved the same level of nonsensical meaninglessness as Colonist!
No, not really, it's better defined.

See, they carry flags ..

Oh, it has meaning . . . just not always the dictionary definition.

I'm thinking that "authoritarian" has better functionality in this instance . . . and can be used as synonymous with "fascist" in this context.
Then what does that make the state media and Intel apparatus (as exhibited before the 2020 election) and how does that jive with that definition?

They're full of shit and you know it. Both parties are. But one again still believes it has the high ground.

Why not all three?
Fascism is a term of art . . . and is often misused when authoritarianism or totalitarianism is what is intended, because of Nazi Germany's blending of the facets of all three. Stalin's USSR was similar in its authoritarianism and totalitarianism, but its economic philosophy was different from that of fascism.

Falling back on equivalencies I see . . . whether false or not they're bullshit and you know it.

It’s all bullshit. I know that. Do you?
No, I don't. I don't think you "know" that either . . . I think you want to believe what you want to believe irrespective of the world as it really is because it's easier to declare it all the same.

Your declaration of "bullshit" all the time and at everything only serves to muddy what already isn't clear.

The problem is that a lot of neo-fascists and right wingers proudly self identify as fascist. Not everyone on the right is fascist, but a significant portion of them espouse fascist ideals and consider themselves fascist...
Define 'significant portion'. You surely have stats on that. You're not just pulling it out your ass, I"m sure.

So this isn't a great look for the Republicans:

Identifying as a Christian Nationalist? Talking about putting on "the armor of God?" Dude calling the Left "godless, soulless" and talking about people's "birthright" and "destiny?"

Yuck.

At least TPUSA condemned the Nazis outside the rally, though.

So the world is as the woke and social media describes it is then? That makes a ton of sense, Counselor.

Trumpism isn’t fascism. Trumpism is batshit craziism but it isn’t fascism anymore than modern progressivism is socialism.

3 videos to show the same small group. Happens far more regularly from the left? I’ll have what you’re smoking. Yes there was some bad behavior. Not encouraged by politicians, ( or planned) as Jan. 6 was. Comparing Trump protests is valid. We tried to warn people that Trump’s rhetoric would lead to violence, remember? It did, even at his own rallies. But comparing protests from Killing black men is not a valid comparison. You know that.,
Trump protestS? Other than Jan 6, which ones are you talking about?

Exactly. Street protests on the outskirts of the country. Disrupting a session of Congress, now that's major league.
Uh, your post said they didn't try to occupy territory. They did.

And you just brush it off when proved wrong. Not a surprise.

Did I say that? Did I imply that?

Nope. You're putting words in my mouth. Stop.

You have to do your own due diligence and develop your own filters. And you have to pick some outlets to rely on because there's just too much stuff coming through to digest it all. How do you do that? Test them, and see which ones are closest to a consensus of what is actually happening out there . . . otherwise you're doomed to treat it all the same. Treating it all the same just means you've given up . . . .

Now do socialism, and Marxism and how those words have changed meaning from their original definition and how they are used in current political conversations.

I know what true fascism is Sope, very well in fact, especially examples from WW2. But, when I see Nazi symbolism at right wing campaign rallies ... Well, if the boot fits, might as well be goose-stepping.

Dammit DeSantis. COME ON. I guess rising above is asking too much.

You would be wiser if you never attached MSNBC again.

It’s a damn convenient and good thing that there haven’t been any kooks at Biden or Obama rallies.

Right wing version of cancel culture?

Or just right wing censorship? What happened to "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

Go back, slow down, and reread my post. I didn't say anything about censorship. And MSNBC still sucks.

You don’t need to listen to the commentator. Just watch the video clips. Yes they are edited.

If there’s proof they are way out of context, I’d like to see it.
I lasted about 40 seconds. It's red meat for pearl clutching leftists who want their rage dopamine hit for the day. I'd rather read an entire post of cosmics, listen to a vanpastor sermon, and go to a pro-abortion rally wearing a vagina hat, with Zeke, than watch all of it. It would at least be an interesting day.

P.S. I teed up that first sentence for someone.

bit of a thread jack. More WW2 history than politics but still related to fascism.

I'm bored and waiting on my Gf ... so ..

One of the most misunderstood aspects of Hitler is/was the narrative giving him ultimate power, while never mentioning the power the German industrialists had.

An example ... truth is always in the small stories.

After Poland when the performance of the Pz.III was evaluated it was noted that the 37mm short barrel gun was not effective. Hitler and some of the general staff ordered the manufacturers to up-gun it with a 50mm/L60. L60 being the barrel length calibre.

They went into France predominantly still armed with the 37mm, with the 50mm showing up in small numbers in the last days. It wasn't the L/60, it was the L/42, with lower velocity and less armorer piercing capabilities. German tactics were superior enough to overcome the deficiency, but the same assessment was made. It wasn't powerful enough to take out Allied armor.

The manufacturers (and in some sources the general staff) decided to basically ignore his order, use up existing stock of 37mm, build cheaper L/42 and send L/50's to ground forces. It made no difference in France. It would in Russia..

After France during a parade, Hitler became aware that the gun was a short barrel. He was angry.. and in a typical Hitler response, killed and imprisoned the industrialists for ignoring his order...

Actually he didn't. He wrote a stern letter complaining.

If you know the history of the Russian campaign you know that one of the roadblocks German forces had was the appearance of KV heavy tanks and the T-34. When either was competently fielded, a rarity for the Soviets at that time, an 88mm had to be brought in to take them out as no German armor could consistently penetrate them even at close ranges.

Using fixed position guns - often still transported by horse at that time - was not conducive to blitz. One T-34 could cause delays. Though the 50mm/L60 was still a bit too small, it could at closer ranges, effectively take out both Soviet tank types. It would have changed the dynamic of that campaign.

First ordered by Hitler in early 40, it wasn't deployed until March of 42 when it was already obsolete. It wrecked havoc on allied forces in N.Africa.

Hitler wasn't as omnipotent as post war history paints him to be, and the industrialists were probably not as innocent. Adolf, the military and the politicians were given all the blame and punishment while the corporate leaders of fascist Germany were almost completely dismissed from it. They played bigger role and had more power than most understand.

The lesson here is; if you're going to be a true fascist, you should be one of the rich corporate ones.

You can go back to being pedantic about the definitions of political labels now. Woke certainly needs defined better.. Imma gonna go eat me some Cajun food, and then have a latte.

Since we are doing history asides, one could almost argue that fascism won, at least based on the world order that sprung up in the post war period. Conservative red meat to start the article but gets into an interesting POV starting at "Rising Star".

When one party is digging a hole behind it's authoritarian, it's not that hard to have the high ground relatively speaking.

Maybe. What she said was clearly atrocious and she only gets away with it because of immutable characteristics. Bezos can call her out all he likes.
He also donated 2 million to Carnegie Mellon. He's behaving like an oligarch should.

And I do agree with you that her comments certainly don't help whatever cause she's trying to highlight. She could have simply posted about some relief project or the historical injustices of the British crown in Africa. But, she went low.

Not what I would have done but to each their own.

Disingenuous, yet again. All the breaks, no. The ability to speak with impunity, yes.
She didn't get impunity. She was (maybe rightfully, I'll let others decide) scorched on Twitter and her employer had to release a statement distancing themselves from her comments.

That's not impunity.
