You punks that want to kick boomers.

I remember during that show (Labor Day 1996), we were getting an "Everybody's Somebody" T shirt for my brother (who just left Texas to come back to Bloomington for his Jr year), and having all the artists sign it.

We get to Junior Brown, and he asks what we want him to sign.

My buddy (Midland, TX / UT grad) replies "sign it 'Indiana sucks, come back to Texas'"

Junior was like "Indiana doesn't suck, I'm not saying that. Give me something else."

Come to find out, Junior spent some time growing up (grade school age for 2-3 years) down here SE of Bloomington by one of the quarries. Some of the older locals even remember him and his brother, and where they lived.

So Junior Brown...has a bit of affinity for Southern Indiana (which is kinda the South anyway).

I saw Junior Brown at the Bluebird over 20 years ago. Guy puts on a great show.

He still comes through the 'Bird quite a bit.

Dave's getting killed by the HiFi up in Indy on bookings, so he's mainly getting cover/party bands, and under the radar alt country types. Still good shows, but not sure if the Bird has the booking pull it had when it was just Vogue vs Bird for indie acts.

HiFi has done the same to Dukes. I’d much rather go to Dukes. HiFi reminds me of a venue from a TV show. It lacks authenticity.

I think HiFi and Dukes are "kinda" in cahoots here and there...maybe? Or maybe they just kinda co-produced Holler on the Hill back in the day? Can't remember.

Katie Toupin's new band/alter ego Candi Jenkins has been playing up at Dukes lately. That place is pretty legit...about as close as you'll get to a real Texas honkytonk or dance hall. Need some sawdust on the floor though. :D

For Brad...

I can...
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Alice in Chains
Smashing Pumpkins
Beastie Boys
Rage
NIN
Public Enemy
Wu Tang
Daft Punk
Radiohead
Chilli Peppers
The entire Hip Hop Genre

He also conveniently left out the Eagles on his boomer list. Thrusting that shit bomb of a music group on the world is far more egregious than a million Taylor Swifts(who's actually good BTW).
Other than Alice In Chains and Radiohead and maybe Nirvana, the rest suck balls.

Pearl Jam has to be the biggest hoax perpetrated in Rock, and that include Dave Matthews. Oh, and the Peppers suck ass, too.

You say Hip Hop like that's a positive.

I have crazy mad respect for Steve Miller. As a kid, he wanted to be in a band, so he taught his brother how to play bass and Boz Skaggs how to play guitar.

ETA - Not to mention the big middle finger to the RnR HOF when he was inducted.
Saw him at Red Rocks two years ago. I’d forgotten how many songs of his I liked.

And...

Saw ZZ Top during the 2007 Hollywood Blues Tour in Dallas with Shooter Jennings and the Old 97's opening...

The Old 97's, fronted by Rhett Miller, who also attended St Mark's...

which brings us full circle back to Steve Miller.
Old 97's is an amazing pull. Thoughts on Shooter Jennings?

I actually had no idea he wasn't an original member. Thanks for the lesson.
A couple of them were from Santana's original band. They went from hippie jam band to ... teenybopper shit.

I agree with your concept though and even more I hate any over the hill reunion act regardless if original members or not. Especially rock bands living in the past. I'm embarrassed for them. If they aren't creating new music, and just regurgitating their old catalog, which tends to be played without any passion what so ever, I'd much rather listen to a past recording ... Much cheaper, far better music.

I like him.

Have seen him anywhere from small town festivals in bum**** Texas, to underground clubs in Manhattan.

This is/was my wife's jam when we're taking the motorhome cross country to some race/festival/beach...

I kinda think he bitches too much about "fake country"...we all know it's fake...no need to keep harping on it.

Like his XM show as well.

You know though, I think I have a double standard. For some reason I don’t mind some of the Motown Acts that clearly have some younger members. I think I like the fact my kids can be introduced to music that was so damn good back in its time.

Appreciate your and @hookyIU1990 's perspectives. I like his XM show better than his live show. I struggle to find him authentic. He lives in Hollywood after all. 🤣 Saw him play a few songs with his mother a year or so ago and, even at her age, it wasn't even close. Not his fault at all, but she just felt the lyrics differently.

Yeah...I can dig that...kinda feel the same. The live shows are "OK"...I'd go see him at The Bird...maybe Indy on a dead weekend, but not making too much of an effort.

Grew up going to Old 97's shows in my early 20's in Dallas. Couple of the guys lived in the apartments next to me on Marquita in Dallas...mix of hipsters, yuppies, and SMU kids. :D

I would almost guarantee that I introduced Indiana to the Old 97's when I brought my "Hitchhike to Rhome" CD up one Fall weekend while visiting my brother in Bloomington. He kept the CD, and when I came back up for Little 500, 200 kids at their house party were singing along loudly to "St Ignatius", "504", "Doreen", and "Stoned". Cracked me up. :D

Not to derail...and this does circle back to Texas Hill Country artists...but just watched this great scene from Captain Fantastic on MovieMax 521 DirectTV...

Which ends rolling into this great song by Dripping Springs' TX own Israel Nash. First saw him at the Old Settlers Festival, where we used to camp right across the FM from the Salt Lick BBQ, and the fest was right next door. :D

Dude's great...

Anyone seen anything at the Sphere yet? I’m dying to go.

We'd take our daughter down to the Valentine's Weekend/Day dances at Luckenbach dance hall and teach her to two-step. She doesn't remember how now. :D

The First X wife and I would spend 3 out of 4 weekends there in Monroe country 2 steppin. Ralph Eads first (the I started at) place down on south 446, just past the Cosway on the left. Then later moved it to Smithville Road. We did that for probably 4 years.
Those were the best of times. I may have to think of those times, if 1steX over happens again. It might help.

For those of you that couldn't make it across the monkey bars as a 12 yr old. The "1steX" is a portmanteau.

I heard about that place. Heard it was great.

Mike's Dance Barn (kinda Brown Co) is kinda weak. Just a bunch of olds, line dancing.
