Going small requires that you have to be effective from the 3 point line or able to drive to the basket. Our "center" did both last night. Hartman making 3's will force a team to leave him open or go smaller to guard him. We may force a team like PUke to go small. If they go small, we have an advantage. If they don't, we should have open 3's. I don't see Haas as being effective in coming out to guard Hartman or running with him down the floor. Hammons usually gets fired up for one game a year. The way we take him out of the game is to make him ineffective on the defensive end of the court. Besides Haas and Hammons, the rest of PUkes squad is not terribly big and not as talented as we are.
The same formula can be used against most of the teams we will play. Wisconsin is one team that will have a solution with their regular rotation against us. Iowa might be another.
People get stuck on measuring players by height when there are so many ways to negate a height advantage.
