You may be right, but if you recognized the fanbase was a problem, how did you help things by starting this thread?Had a conversation with a friend within the IU Athletics department. It sounds like they and others are very frustrated with our hilljack lunatic fan base scaring off potential coaching hires. It's a circus atmosphere that doesn't appeal to big name coaches.
Just take the Matta situation as one example. One of two things is true:
1) The rumors about Matta's health and potential hiring are true and it's an awkward and undesirable leak for Matta, or;
2) The rumors about Matta's health and potential hiring aren't true and it's still an awkward and undesirable leak for Matta.
Either way, it's bad and annoying for Matta.
Take the Stevens situation as another example. Certainly if Brad were considering IU, he would want to keep things quiet and come to an amicable and classy end to his Celtics career. Brad is just that kind of guy. Lunatic IU fans stop all that, even if it were going to happen. Constant rumor mongering on twitter, media questions, etc make even the association with the IU coaching job to be a toxic public relations mess.
Let that sink in. The IU fans are such lunatics that even being wrongfully associated with the IU coaching vacancy is a headache with weird and strangely personal rumors flying around.
What coach in their right mind would even want to be associated with the job and subject to our lunatic fans' rumor mongering? What coach in their right mind would come to IU?
This post is so absurd. The only thing that gives it any credibility is the last four coaching hires.Had a conversation with a friend within the IU Athletics department. You have to think the next man up is still coaching. Otherwise, it would start looking like Dolson is over his head. Let's see what he comes up with.the speculation, and the crazyness that goes with it, is directly proportional to the wait time.
Miller was on the plank for over a yr, so if IU didn't have someone in the wings the day Miller's dismissal became official, that's on them.
the only reason a new hire shouldn't have already been announced, is if the new guy is still in the tourney.
Tom Allen was announced the day Wilson was fired.
IU was able to make that call, because they had direct knowledge of Tom Allen.
being Dolson has been around as long as he has, he should have direct knowledge of all the IU guys, and many non IU guys.
don't get sucked into "the grass is always greener" mentality, and hire someone you don't have direct knowledge of, unless you think everyone you do have direct knowledge of is crap.
just hire the guy your direct knowledge of tells you is the guy, and don't over think it or let others talk you out of it.
experience is meaningless if you don't use it.
insight useless, if you don't trust it.
anybody filling out a bracket could, (and do non stop), tell you the flavor of the week guys.
screw the flavor of the week, Dolson needs to back the guy his personal knowledge of tells him is the best option.
based on his own direct knowledge of and experience with, who would he trust representing IU in a kid's home, looking out for the best interests of the kids and the school on a daily basis, and representing IU publicly.
all the IU guys are far more than qualified from a basketball knowledge perspective, as are a thousand other guys.
use personal knowledge of, not Billboard Magazine's Top 100 which changes weekly, to decide who you want representing IU.

Yes - exactly. You give fans and rumors to much credit. When other fan bases have people sending hate messages to athletes after they lose. IF a coach is worried about all that they will never succeed at any major job such as UK, Duke, UNC, KU, UL, UCLA, Or IU.
Oh, really? The IU fan base is more scary than those rabid Celtic fans on talk radio that are about to run his a$$ out of town? LolHad a conversation with a friend within the IU Athletics department. I hear you OP, but your administration friends need to get out into the non-insular IU world. I belong to multiple college sites and all are full of lunatics. It is not an IU issue.
Same thing still once you have tasted winning, you crave it. I’d rather be THAT fan than say a Purdue fan any day...True, but it does seem a little like the fans are in elite mode when the team has fallen back.

I think that after you have been a coach and “in the public eye” you neither read nor listen to fans/media/stadium chants. or maybe everyone just likes f'ing with you!IU fans are crazy, and demand attention. They can’t get it from winning, but have an entitled part of them built in. Me included.
I tweeted we needed Nate oats at Goodman after he talked about the nba style they run. I had a reply saying “you think he would actually leave bama for IU, that’s rich 😂😂”. Got 20 likes, mine got 1.
IU isn’t bigger or better than any of these schools in terms of basketball in 2021. Just a sad reality the IU fans have to face.
This is the least successful thread that I can recall, excluding *perhaps* feepaw’s return.
It's stayed toward the top of this forum for a few days and has garnered a number of similar replies from lunatic fans denying they are a problem. I'd say it's been a big success in proving its point empirically.
Imagine thinking IU is a "big stage." We're not even in the top half of our own conference. Don't be lunatics, accept the reality of the situation that big name coaches don't want to come to Indiana. There is more dignity in admitting this.
