Unfortunately , Chad Kelly committed to Ole Miss. He was just waiting for them to offer. So, who are the QB 's our staff is targeting now?
Not many top JC QB's out there. We need to have an experienced backup who can compete with Sudfeld for the position and be ready if he
Goes down. Who's out there? We have Covington and Diamont, but we need a QB in this class and preferably someone who is ready to
Compete for the job.

Second QB we have lost to Ole Miss. We also tried to get Bo Wallace a few years ago. It always seems to be a Catch 22. We can't get the top players without winning and we can't win until we get the top players. I just don't understand how places like Duke and Kansas State can apparently get the right coach and then wins without great tradition or facilities.

For starters, Duke stuck with a coach through several losing seasons - long enough to allow him to build a program. That seems to be something many IU fans are unwilling to do. Secondly, Duke might have played the weakest schedule of any major conference team in America this year. The Blue Devils beat 5 teams with 3-9 records and one team that finished 1-11. They did beat Ga. Tech ( who I would argue was no better than the Missouri team we beat) and Virginia (7-5) and Pitt (6-6). Throw out GT and the combined record of the teams they beat was 29-67. I think we would have had no trouble making it to a bowl with that schedule, even with our qb situation.

Certainly K-State has found a quality guy in Snyder. The Wildcats also benefitted from an unusually weak Big 12 this year. They did not manage to beat the league's two best (TCU or Baylor). Maybe if we stick with a coach long enough we can manage to get to that level of success in the near future

Good post

Seems like the minimum ought to be 5 years-unless it's obviously not working. With the right amount of time, Cam would have been successful-I think. A little more D would have helped. One of his key guys died as I recall . Which didn't help either. I think CKW has this program headed in the right direction. Knower helps.

Re: Good post

I generally don't agree with getting rid of coaches when their last season was an improvement. Cameron's final team was playing very well the last half of 2001 and barely missed out on a bowl game. I felt it was a top 30 team by the end of that season. I realize that with the loss of Randel El, Levron Williams and some key performers on defense that an improvement in 2002 would have been difficult, but I felt he should have been given a chance.

And even though DiNardo was a disaster with some of his coaching decisions, he was only given three years and the final one was the best one. His best achievement was in recruiting, with Tracy Porter and Benjarvus Green-Ellis playing for IU. I also felt that Mallory should have been allowed one more season to turn things around with all that he accomplished.

Re: And now Minnesota

Kill went to Minnesota with the distinct advantage of having a staff that had been with him for quite awhile already in place and a very mild strength of schedule. Unfortunately, it took us/Wilson a few seasons to find the right coaches who wanted to stay in Bloomington. We "lost" a few seasons because of this. It would appear we have finally found some great coaches who really want to be in Bloomington so our improvement should really start to multiply in the seasons going forward. Even with our revolving coaching door the product on the field is much better than it has been in quite some time and should do nothing but get better. Also, our strength of schedule has been rather brutal but we have been very competitive in most of the games lost.
