The reporter can't add himself to the thread, you have to be invited through his phone number. That's how signal works.
This isn't some conspiracy. It happened. They ****ed up, yet your so partisan that you think Trump and his administration walk on water.
Apparently Joe Kent was on the text chain, who hasn't been confirmed to his position.
So your theory is that either Waltz
1) intentionally added the cloaked JG contact, that he cloaked himself, or
2) mistakenly added the cloaked JG contact, that he cloaked himself?
Either way, why does Waltz have JG's "number", and why is it "cloaked" via initials?
It's not my theory. He did get added. I have no idea why Waltz has his number, nor why JG was noted by his initials and I don't care one way or the other. I know he didn't add himself though.
Maybe, if such a mistake is so easily made, they probably shouldn't be talking about things like strikes against another country on a ****ing app that anyone can download.

One thing I do like about fringe conspiracies, it really shines a light on the total loons. To go from using Signal, an encrypted app, is OK for military communications to a reporter for the Atlantic hacked into that same Signal chat is truly amazing.

Lets say a reporter was able to hack his way into Waltz's phone.... he would be the least of our worries. What other country has added themselves under someone else's number that we don't know about (since that's the excuse currently going around)?
The spin that is trying to be put on this makes the current administration look worse then they already do. Say you messed up, take your lumps and move on. If Waltz looses his job, so be it, but be honest about what happened because these theories make the administration look worse then they already do.

Somehow I guess people think this is made better if this app were hacked and a message redirected to someone not intended to receive said message. Yep, we should all rest easy, they didn't screw up, the platform or phone was hacked and that is a cause for celebration.

This is clearly the details of a strike plan and I've seen strike plans. I'm guessing the defenders of this FUBAR will point at this and with a straight face say, "well that isn't a "war plan" so it's all bogus!" That'll be laughable spin, but I bet it happens.

My understanding is that the texts occurred a few hours ahead of the strikes.
Whether it is the plan or an update to the plan is splitting hairs that doesn't change much.
I'm just saying the 'military' stuff seems to be real time updates. Ther other messages before the strike seems to be philosophical stuff - should we or shouldn't we.
Bottom line is, the mission was a success, no Americans were killed or hurt, and they've no doubt learned this is not a good way to communicate sensitive information. Lesson learned.
