You're absolutely right
The REAL decline started with the hiring of Brand and the talking mule. Once RMK was at odds to the extent he was with those two (and please don't read this as he wasn't culpable in his own demise), his passion for what he had built began to wane, IMHO. He increasingly left more and more up to others, maybe most importantly, what players best fit his program and demands. Unfortunately, the last couple of classes he brought in seemed to have the toughness that had been missing but he never got the opportunity to see it through. Oh well.
