if we close them out like we did last night. We have to do a much better job of protecting the ball, running down the shot clock, avoiding turnovers and hitting free throws - this team has to grasp that executing the basics is mandatory

What's a lot ?
I could see 7-8..
Anything over that ..I'd think we'd underachieved ...
We've sure have had the injury bug this year..
That hasn't helped. .

Well since the Illini are maybe the most offensively deficient B1G team, I'd say a finish like last night would result in a loss to just about any other B1G team. RP being out was a significant factor but it doesn't appear he'll be able to come to the rescue anytime soon.

I believe this team loses 8 Big Ten games. Just too many turnovers and missed free throws to win close games to good teams and on the road will be even worse.

Remember, we play 20 conference games this year. 8 losses still puts us at 12-8 and 21-10 to start the Big Ten Tournament. I think this puts us at least comfortably in and who knows if we are healthy and playing good basketball at the end then we could make a good run. Doesnt seem like the end of the world to me and it could be how it ends up.

Keep in mind current B1G standings and conference records show:

12. Northwestern 0-3
13. Penn State 0-3
14. Illinois 0-3

Does that list look familiar?

That’s saying this team won’t improve. I still believe our shooting will get better.

They literaly payed like the most efficient* last night tho, especially in the first half. So that games going to sound worse then it really was

Personally, unless something totally drastic and unexpected happens I dont see us losing over 8 ...& a better chance at <7 vs >8

That is what a PU boob texted me last night. You think like a PU fan.

He was thrilled they beat a ranked team. an 0-3 in the B1G ranked team.

Not impressed

Iowa has played no one out of conference. The Oregon game looked like it was going to be a good one at the time but they fell quickly as the first 2 months played out and have lost their best player for the year. Iowa hasn't even looked like an NCAA tournament team let alone a B1G contender but they are competitive enough to be a tough road game as most B1G teams are.

It's not the finish that has me worried, it's how we open every game. Spotting a good team in the B-10 a big opening lead is the formula for disaster

My sense is that IU's players were bored last night. Their demeanor seemed like they were doing just enough to put up a W. I'm OK with that, when IU gets the W anyway.

That doesn't apply to Archie though; his demeanor indicated anything but boredom.

It's kind of interesting, watching this team. It's almost as if they're spending the first third of the game figuring out what the other team's offense is and how to defend against it. Then they come back because their confidence in defending is high, which tends to build confidence on the offensive end too. That's how IU has been able to come back and win these close games they've been behind in.

I love watching a team that has confidence it can get stops when they need them.

I have a problem with this team when players get double teamed and no one comes to the ball. That happened on the ten second call on Green because he was by himself in the back court

Especially on the road. And this team will get spanked a few times on the road this year in Big Ten play. One will happen this Sunday. Hoping it is not as bad as Duke but may actually be that bad again.

It happened in first half too...and Green back pedaled w his dribble to create space and almost feed Deron an opp from about 65 feet away...

Op shouldn’t drink and post. Y’all will be fine in the big 10. Yes the schools from Michigan will be tough but I think you will be fine

Need to give props to the coaching staff and the tactical adjustments they made in each game, and maybe start to question their strategy, scouting and prep.

12-8 isn't bad for this team and it will definitely put us in the tourney. We've had a ton of injuries, and like I said coming in the year there are still major holes on this roster.

I agree they have started games half assed. But in all fairness continuing to read more posts.... I really dont think you guys realize just how perfect Ill played the first half of the first half. They looked like a top ten team. Their shooting was fire

If it was just the Illinois game then it wouldn't be a problem. It's the slow starts in EVERY game that has people concerned, especially when we are getting ready to go on the road.

Disheartening to see all the Chicken Littles come out right before the season starts to get REAL. This is a key stretch coming up that will probably determine this team’s fate. Let’s stop trying to preemptively lower expectations.

I would call it more of a reality check.

Some posters on here think Iu is going to split series at worst with Mich. Dont believe me jus go read the thread on this board. ..
Possible? Of course.
Likely? Highly NOT
Some posters suddenly think since weve became ranked were elite.
Were far from it

I don’t expect a win on Sunday. Would love it if it happened, but don’t expect it. I do want to see a better performance than the one against Duke. I’ve had this game circled since the loss against Duke as a key indicator of whether this team has improved. If it’s deja vu all over again, yeah, I’ll be pretty disappointed.

Where are we than?
Somewhere between 13 - 264th?

Getting Rob Phinisee and Race Thompson healthy would really help.

I cant imagine we will see Jerome Hunter untill November. If...ever.
