We have so much NIL

The big boosters for whatever reason want him to stay. I guess they like the wine and cigar nights.
How do you know this? They're supporting all sports and by showing support they are showing that you can count on them for the long haul. Cuban knows that Woodson realistically has just one year left.

Depends on your goal. If you're trying to build a sustainable program for year after year success then loading up on portal mercenaries probably isn't the best long term approach. If you just need to assemble a team for one season to keep from getting fired then you might be able to make that work with a big enough pile of cash.

Someone wants Mike Woodson to stay in Bloomington. Hence the influx of money.
Possibly...it could be that the donors are as clueless about NIL and program building as the administration has been for...years.

Exactly but we have pretty much killed our 2025 and 2026 recruiting by bringing woodson back. He is a lame duck coach and every other coach will use it against him if he bothers to even try and recruit any high school kids.
Does nobody recruit juco players anymore ? Think Dean Garrett, Keith Smart etc. There's surely some good ones out there.

Hey, it is the nature of the beast now with NIL. Eddie George talked about $100 handshakes while at OSU and I guarantee both Duke and Kentucky had back channels to take care of their players. Coach K and Calipari have had handlers.

Good to see Todd Wagner involved. He is from Merrillville and lived on Boisen 4 his freshman year. We won Teter Quad in both football and basketball that year 1978-79. Todd was a pretty good athlete. I am not sure what fraternity he ended up in. Accounting undergrad and Law degree.

We lost in the basketball tournament to a team that included Tim Wilbur of football and Holdiay Bowl winner in 1979. Fun memories.

Teter!! T4 here but before your time.

He can't hit a curve ball and can't hit a three either apparently. Need Jobu to fix this curse.
Thank you that brought a laugh to me, hey who knows maybe they could be the Cleveland Indians basketball version in 24-25.

I bet top 3 for bball. We better own this transfer portal.
IU’s admin is trash, Bloomington’s elected officials are worse, the city has become a disaster, IU Basketball is irrelevant.
Living through and watching 3 championships I never thought this would be the situation, but you reap what you sow. I feel bad for the devout fans that love and cherish IU Basketball.
IU has been reduced to hoping to buy a competitive team. Sad

Well then, I guess theirs only one thing left to do... Win the whole f-cking thing.

The key is who will be on the stand up poster to start taking puzzle pieces off as they win the games. I am open to suggestions.

In 2013-2014 the Knicks had the second highest payroll in the NBA. They didn't make the playoffs. CMW was fired. Phil Jackson was the axman.

As bad as woodson is I cannot even imagine how bad he would have been pre NIL and portal. He would of had to build a team of high school recruits just like crean did. I think it would have gone ever far worse than this last season was.
Either way, tske away TJD that Archie delivered him, his first two seasons would have been 15-16 type dumpster fires. Then this season..

I think the portal has probably greatly diminished the need/place for Jr College, you can go anywhere and then transfer and more people will see you play and have higher confidence what you can do because you've played some decent comp along the way. It's a totally different landscape, so harkening back to how it was in 1987 isn't really relevant, imo. I'm sure there will still be some juco guys come up because of their personal situations (grades, messing up in HS), but my guess is for anyone who can, they'll try and go to a 4 year school. The portal is going to kill the NIT, it is probably also going to diminish the juco transfer too. Different world.
