Watched a YouTube short where a British lady lamented that the educated class there are the fools ruining their society, and the lower classes had the common sense.

Couldnt link it, but made me ponder.

You, who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so, become yourself
Because the past is just a goodbye
Teach your children well
Their father's hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them, "Why?"
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
And you (Can you hear?) of tender years (And do you care?)
Can't know the fears (And can you see?)
That your elders grew by (We must be free)
And so, please help (To teach your children)
Them with your youth (What you believe in)
They seek the truth (Make a world)
Before they can die (That we can live in)
And teach your parents well
Their children's hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by
Don't you ever ask them, "Why?
If they told you, you will cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you

Wonder what all that means?

I think Graham Nash probably meant “don’t try and change your kids, you can’t, they don’t want your life.”

Dylan said:
Come gather 'round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone
For the times, they are a-changin'
Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who that it's namin'
For the loser now will be later to win
'Cause the times, they are a-changin'
Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled
'Cause the battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times, they are a-changin'
Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly aging
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand
'Cause the times, they are a-changin'
The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast
The slowest now will later be fast
As the present now will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now will later be last
'Cause the times, they are a-changin'

Others said it different - the road to hell is paved with good intentions

Thoreau said “

“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things..”

But what did he know? His name left out an I.

Do we wish our kids well on the way to hell?
Or do we tell them things until we yell
The wrong thing?

Then watch them sell themselves too well
And hear their bell as it rings from a dell
We can‘t bring them home from?

The prodigal son taught himself, right?

Well, I rapped upon a house with a U.S. Flag upon display
I said, “Could you help me out, I got some friends down the way.”
The man says, “Get out of here, I’ll tear you limb from limb.”
I said, “You know they refused Jesus, too” He said, “You’re not him.
Get out of here before I break your bones, I ain’t your pop.”
I decided to have him arrested and went lookin’ for a cop.
