Updated CFP Bracket

This is good and somewhat expected news. A few thoughts...

I'm not sure if PSU is justified being a 6 seed if IU is an 11 seed. They beat Illinois who gave up 49 points to Purdue and no quality wins.

Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois and that should severely penalize them.

Clemson has two losses and no quality wins. A win against South Carolina would make things interesting but they should still be out.

The Georgia/Georgia Tech and Texas/TAM games could be interesting too.

Overall, I don't see IU being pushed out unless the committee wants us out.
As many of the talking heads have said:
“If IU had the name Michigan or Ohio State or Alabama across their jerseys, this wouldn’t even be a topic for debate.”

Brand recognition has a lot to do with all of the debate going on. People just don’t want to admit it.

1. The years of the bottom falling out on IUFB is running rampant right now. We have a damn good team that hasn’t been in the level of spotlight like we were Saturday. The true meddle of this team is going to be how do they respond.

2. Most of the “opponents” to IU being in the CFP are the annoyingly vocal ESPN SEC simps. All reasonable talking heads I’ve heard noted that IU was on the bubble for all of about 6-7 hours on Saturday until everyone else started crapping the bed.

3. We have zero bad losses. Most of the SEC “contenders” have at least one or more bad losses or near losses. Unless we absolutely shoot ourselves in the foot this Saturday, there’s no way we miss out on the CFP. Big 12 and ACC are one bid leagues at best right now.

4. Worst case scenario at this point, IMO, is something screwy happens with the SEC Championship and it bumps us down to the 12 spot. For example: Georgia loses to Tech but beats Texas in the SEC title game. That might not do it, but it would certainly make things weird in a hurry.

Because 15s beating 2s and the occasional 16 beating a 1 (I'm looking at you, Purdue) is one of the most exciting occurrences in sports.
Easier to do in basketball than it is in football. I think it would be very rare for that to happen in football, yet in basketball there seems to be at least one game that could happen.

Because they are the 4th highest rated projected conference champion (ahead of highest rated B12 team)
Yep. And another interesting potential outcome from the way the seedings are done is that if Tulane wins the American Conference and ends up ranked higher than the Big12 champion, they will get the 5th conference champion slot and there will be NO Big12 teams in the CFP. The P4 conferences are not guaranteed to be 4 of the conference champs in the CFP.

Tulane (17) is only one spot behind Arizona State (16) in this week's poll. ASU is currently the highest ranked Big12 team.

All y'all who think all IU has to do is to beat Purdue are just wrong. IU is the LAST team in now. If IU only beats Purdue 21-17, then it will be viewed as a severe liability. A close win, coupled with either (1) a TN stomping of a decent Vanderbilt team, or (2) a Bama stomping of an upstart Auburn team, or (3) a SC stomping of Clemson (or even vice-versa), and IU will be left out.

OTOH, if IU wins by some number of points, my guess is 21, then IU is a lock no matter what else happens this weekend or in the conference championship games. Anyone with a guess of less than 14 is wearing crimson-colored glasses.

I think we need to win by 61 to keep the weasels at bay...

I'm old enough to vividly remember everybody's pal: Lee Corso, along with that joke of a sportscaster Bryant Gumbel, going far out of their way to screw Anthony Thompson out of the Heisman by making a major deal about his not getting a hundred yards against p u (I think he got 99) and his not winning The Bucket (because our kicker missed the game winner)... Ol' Lee was still bitter about the way he'd been fired years before and got even with IU by screwing over AT... By any reasonable measure AT should have won going away but the voters saw Lee & Bryant's smear job and voted accordingly...

Never give the media a tool to work you over with... They're certain to use it...

We need to win Big and make a statement if at all possible, in my opinion... If it's even slightly close it will be to our detriment...
