Trumpcession

I don’t think it’s against the rules because those kinds of rules don’t apply to POTUS I don’t think.

I also don’t think it’s necessarily unprecedented because politicians are always celebrating buying American or different companies, even if not quite as directly as he did with Tesla.

From a practical perspective, I’d think it’s more counterproductive to have a POTUS specifically endorsing your product because it becomes a politicized product, which is not something most companies would want.

I assume it's not illegal.

I think the question is can Trump convince the people who bought all the Trump branded products to buy a Tesla? I fully agree it normally isn't there thing, though it seems the cybertruck has made inroads. If I were Musk, a red, white, and blue Tesla called POTUS or some such might well do it.

He isn't selling many to liberals now. If he wants to keep the product going, he needs someone to buy them. If there is to be a pivot, Trump is the man.
$18 and $80k is a big difference. Too many videos of electric trucks having issues for work etc. my hoosier uncles love trump. All nailpounders. Not a chance in hell they’re buying electric

Tesla’s future growth is based on driverless cars. If you think they won’t do it, I suggest taking a ride in one. You can go on a 30 minute drive now and not touch the wheel once. It’s pretty wild.
Driverless cars is coming. I am not sure which company will win that as Waymo has some success too. Tesla's decision to not use LIDAR at all is, uhm, interesting. They use cameras, AI scans each frame and tries to decipher what is in it. LIDAR has limitations, but I'm not so sure the solution won't end up LIDAR and camera. Each tends to address the weakness of the other. Plus, I suspect when the big lawsuits happen, having both gives the attorneys a much better argument.

The biggest single drawback to LIDAR is cost. But I suspect it will come down with more cars using it. It will be like high def TVs, the first couple of years only the wealthier will have it.

And that MF'er completely shut down Columbia Parkway Monday morning just so he could go back to DC. Shut it down at Delta in the middle of rush hour.
Trump has been flying to PBI airport (West Palm) almost every weekend to play golf. Often at Friday rush hour. Really messes up everything with multiple airport & road shutdowns.

Most in Palm Beach County are looking forward to hotter weather and him not coming here so often.

BTW, is DOGE going to look into these frequent super-expensive transcontinental golf outings?

We were promised that this was ALL Trump was going to do.
Predictions made, predictions shown to be totally worthless.

The benefit of cameras is that they can "read" signs and do a better job at deciphering other things the car sees. For example, if you are entering a construction zone where the speed limit changes depending on whether active work is happening, LIDAR does no good. As you said, cameras + LIDAR seems like the better solution, especially once the cost of LIDAR comes down.

I was interested in the new VW ID. BUZZ (the EV van similar to the old style VW vans).

Problem is, they start at $60,000 and only have a range of 234 miles. At best, I could make it from Cincinnati to Toledo (3.5 hours) and that's it. That ain't going to work.

Damn!!! That’s not cheap.

LOL Yep. I actually have.

Lately I have been seeing quite a few in our township - which is a fairly red area.
Just how red is the township I live in? Not only do we have a store whose only products are Trump-themed merchandise, in the seven months its been in business it has never once been vandalized.

The store is closing this Sunday, but the owner is going to sell Trump-themed merchandise from a tent located in Dry Ridge, Kentucky - right by the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum. The Ark Encounter is that crazy theme park that is a replica of Noah's Ark, and the Creation Museum includes displays of dinosaurs and humans frolicking together. The guy clearly knows his customer base.

Yeah, but, your woke high school changed its logo/mascot from Indians to Raptors.

And couldn’t even keep Joe Burrow’s house from being burglarized while the Bengals were in Dallas.

Human/dinosaur coexistence is obviously absurd, but maybe the Ark story isn’t.

I’d bet the ranch that all the research in the world will not demonstrate that there was an ark of that size, if for no other reason than a wooden ship of that size couldn’t be built and remain seaworthy.

There are marine fossils high up in the Rockies, too. That doesn't mean that the mountains as they exist now were ever under water from any global flood. It means that plate tectonics is real. It means that ancient sea beds have been elevated by plate tectonics to rise even above the current tree line.

The camera system clearly couldn't understand a fire truck stopped, lights on, in the middle of an interstate, and ran into it. With LIDAR the AI would have known that there was something solid there even if it couldn't discern what it was.

The LIDAR system has to rely on GPS for speed limits, which doesn't work so well for temporary changes.

There were also redwood trees up in the Rockies. Highly recommend Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument if you're around the Colorado Springs area. Cool place and scenic. Also some nice disc golf courses out that way.

Super rich + former/current POTUS, I’d be surprised if he even had a valid drivers license any more.
Speaking of which, I bet he’s never had a library card. He’s probably never even heard of a library card.

Oh ye of little/no faith!

Fine. I’ll concede Noah’s Ark. But when it gets closer to Easter, I’m starting a thread on the Shroud of Turin, and I don’t want to hear about carbon dating and/or “medieval fake” arguments. Bone up on Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS).

Pretty close to the premise of the joke as to why people get up in arms about drag queen story hour. They don't object to the drag queens, but the reading is unacceptable.
