However, credit where it’s due: he made promises to nominate justices from a list given to him by Leonard Leo. And he did keep that promise. Even the most virulent NeverTrump conservatives should be deeply grateful for that.

And he also seems to be making good on his promise to get more forceful on securing the border. More so, to this point, than he ever was in his first term. And he didn’t do a terrible job in his first term…despite being thwarted by a Congress that seems intent on keeping the border porous.
Trump’s SCOTUS nominees were milquetoast, Federalist society hacks. A major disappointment.

Republicans have yet to realize the zero sum game Democrat’s are playing with these appointments. Progressive banshee woman after progressive banshee woman who will never rule against Democratic party interests when they hear a case that has major political ramifications.

It’s time we caught up. More hard Alito/ Thomas MF’ers.

Well, I don’t agree at all.

But even if you were right, the votes wouldn’t have been there. They were barely there for Kavanaugh - and he’s probably the most moderate of Trump’s 3 nominees.

Trump was fortunate as hell to get 3 nominations in a single term. And I thought he did very well on all 3. I’m particularly fond of Neil Gorsuch.

That said, I don’t disagree with your characterization of Democratic nominees.

There’s virtually never a single surprise vote coming from those 3 - or the likes of Breyer or Ginsburg before them. Each one of their votes, and their reasoning, is utterly predictable.

Kavanaugh struggled because of other BS. Barrett will end up being the most moderate. She’s destined to go the way of Sandra Day and be a completely unreliable Conservative vote.

I don’t know what makes you say that.

She’s said on multiple occasions that her judicial philosophy is drawn from Scalian originalism. She clerked for Scalia.

Assuming she means that, originalists don’t often veer into some other jurisprudential lane.

I dont disagree with VDH with 90% of that, but on #10, even Winston Churchill lost the election after WWII. And he was the epitomy of British fighting spirit.

I think Zelenskyy would win an election today in a landslide. That could be part of his stubbornness, because it does play well at home and in Europe.
Zelenskiy spoke Russian until becoming the Charlie McCarthy to Vicky Nuland's Edgar Bergen.
Zalenskiy is a dead man walking, and he knows it. He's made a number of critical mistakes in the past few years: it's debatable which is the worst.
The Orthodox Church's claim to Apostolic succession is foundational: it holds that spiritual authority and ecclesiastical legitimacy pass directly from the Apostles themselves through an unbroken chain of Bishops, established by the ceremonial laying on of hands. This tradition dates back to around 33 AD, directly instituted by the Apostles of Jesus Christ, making it almost 2,000 years of unbroken continuity.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow currently presides over this lineage, symbolizing uninterrupted spiritual leadership. For adherents, especially within the Russian Orthodox Church; this lineage is at the core of authentic Christianity itself, ensuring the legitimacy of the Sacraments and continuity of true doctrine and worship.
However Zelenskiy has shattered this sacred continuity . Under his regime , the Russian Orthodox Church and it's affiliates in Ukraine have been aggressively targeted under the guise of national security during the ongoing conflict with Russia. For nearly 70% of Church going Ukrainian- who identify as Orthodox- Zelenskiy's actions have amounted to nothing less than a wholesale ban on their Christisn faith.
The severity of Zelenskiy's crackdown cannot be overstated. In a concerted campaign, dozens of revered monasteries and churches were violently raided by the Ukrainian Security Service, The SBU.
Among the most egregious was the raid upon the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, founded in 1051 AD. This iconic site is one of Eastern Europe's most revered and ancient sites, steeped in profound religious, historical, and cultural significance and serving as a beacon for Orthodoxy for nearly a millennium. Clergy who had faithfully ministered there for decades were forcibly expelled, their spiritual leadership abruptly terminated. Additionally numerous Priests faced severe persecution, with many arrested under accusations of collaboration with Russian interests or
promoting subversion. Some of these Priests remain imprisoned facing trials believers see as politically motivated, reflecting a pattern of religious persecution.
Others were forced into exile, fleeing intense scrutiny and societal hostility fueled by the Regime's campaign. Thousands more clergy face immense pressure to abandon their spiritual heritage and join with the newly formed Orthodox Church of Ukraine, an entity comparable to L. Ron Hubbard's Church of Scientology , constructed as a politically expedient devoid of legitimate Apostolic authority.
As a secular jew, Zelenskiy and his minions revel in the schism their cruel persecution has wrought upon the Orthodox congregations of Ukraine and it's faithful.

So-called Christians who continue to support this regime and it's attack upon the oldest form of Apostolic ideology should be excoriated and shamed.

Just history. Every woman who has made it to the high court has progressively drifted left. They’re more sensitive and emotional. It’s science.

It's going to take time? What happened to 24 hours?

The entire world knows what Putin wants. Trump isn't "trying for peace". He's trying to end our involvement. Those are two very different things.
trump firstly wants to solve this so he can proclaim himself king of the dealmakers and savior of the world

peace and the saving of lives is secondary

with respect to that i hope like hell he can make it happen

having to listen to him blow his horn about will be a small price to pay

Are you contending Z has not been oppressing the UOC? Or that is OK because the UOC 30 years ago was affiliated with the ROC?

You’re useful idiot for the Russians. You aren’t smart enough to realize it.

A difference between us, among many, is I talk to you not about you. You ankle bite like a little chihuahua.

My quibble about the humanity is it rewards the dictator. Japan was awful in Manchuria. They began the war with us over their war in Manchuria. They calculated we would not have the stomach for it. If they were right, what would the lives of Manchurians, and Koreans, have been like in the 50s until who knows when?

That is the big unknown. Putin is willing to fight to the last Russian to grab at least two more Oblasts. What will life be like for those who do not want to live under Putin?

We know the Nazis killed innocent as revenge for partisans. Using your argument, should partisans have ceased activity? They were causing death of innocent people.

In the overall view, I have said Ukraine has to be prepared to lose the two oblasts, though Russia needs to guarantee right to leave. The question is, what guarantee do we get to stop a third bite at the apple.
All tough questions, Marv. As with all such questions, there are no easy answers.

I totally agree. Pretty much anything that protects Ukraine going forward is all I want. Z has offered to step down, if that is needed we can require that. I just don't want Russia to reload for 5 years and come back

It might be we keep sanctions on for 5 years which should slow their rebuild. But that would not fit the idea we are recruiting Russia against China.

Given Russian and China's disdain for human rights, I don't know how we overcome that to get them to align with us decadent westerners.

Because you keep filling up posts on what you know about Zelensky. Here’s your chance to shine.
Doc I don't know who you were in a previous posting life, but you should probably know that you are spending a lot of energy debating a guy who is an actual Nazi. You're never going to win this one.

Z had nothing to lose but mineral rights because Ego Man basically campaigned on no more aid to Ukraine. Ego Man said Z has no cards left. Not true. Z’s card is Ego Man and his desperate desire to win a Nobel Peace Prize. Z played his card: No Deal and Ego Man blew a gasket. Meanwhile the Developed Nations all sided either Z and Europe will take charge. Ego Man is out of the game.

Zelenskyy 1 : Ego Man 0
So how is this a loss for the US. We will no longer be sending billions of dollars to Ukraine. The Europeans will be sending their money and weapons to Ukraine or will be ending the war. NATO is not going to throw the US out because lets be serious Europe does not have the ability to defend itself from China or even still Russia even after their military has been depleted. Ukraine is going to have to surrender part of their minerals to either us or Europe. They would be smarter to do so to the US.

these stupid bastards are siding with Putin, we seriously live in dangerous times
Please explain how we are siding with Putin? We quit sending money to Ukraine. We try to end this war before the psycho in Moscow gets desperate and decides to start using nukes and starts WW3. If the war does end and we get the mineral rights we are seeking, some of them are in areas that are occupied by Russia so they will have to withdraw. We have a stake now in Ukraine and Putin has already shown he doesn't really want to toe toe with the US.
