At one point we had half a dozen and as god as my witness it’s the hardest I’ve ever laughed. We had this one kid from Iceland. All he’d ever do is smile and say ITS MILLER TIME! He literally played champions league. So we were all like oh fck he’s going to be ridiculous. Got a full ride. Did. Not. Give. A. Fck. Did nothing but party. Cost us a game with one of his shit passes. He was awful. And our coach was the most frightening human I’ve ever encountered. Bobby knight on roids.

So at practice the next day he makes us all sit on the bench. Non travel players. Walk ons. 35 guys in a row on one bench. 5 Iceland guys together at the end. Like always. Coach walks over to him and just lights him up. Inches from his face screaming. Kid just keeps grunting. Huh. Huh. Coach gets all pissed off. Steam pouring from his ears and tells the leader of the icelandics. Svenny. Tell this mother fckr exactly what I said god dammit!!!!!

Sven stood up and in Icelandic said something to them. And to this day we don’t know what. He never said. But in unison five Icelandic men fell backwards off the bench onto their backs and laughed harder than I’ve ever seen anyone laugh in my entire life. Like something out of a movie

I don't understand why anyone would turn down independence to be a US vassal territory where they pay taxes but cannot vote. They would need a psych eval to do that.

Do you think the colonies would have accepted French citizenship after the Revolution? I don't think there is a chance we make Greenland a state. Without that, they would be simply a colonial possession. No rights to vote for anyone able to impact US foreign policy. They would get US passports which aren't considered pretty weak.

Meh. You're falling for the democracy myth. You have no ability to affect foreign policy, Marv. Your vote is irrelevant in a nation this size. So is the entire state of Alaska and Hawaii, etc. They don't matter electorally. If it matters that much, make them part of Maine.

If you're a US territory, you can be tied into our economy in ways that an independent state might not. You have the US military protection. You get a cool flag and a not bad national anthem.

How many wars do you think independent Greenland might engage in? Greenland has very strict gun laws, assuming they like that, would that be continued as a US colony? Fishing is a key economic contributor. As part of the US, Greenlandic coastal fishing areas would be opened to US competition.

I do agree there is a democracy myth, except the myth is everyone values democracy the same. The simple fact is that people from European backgrounds are conditioned towards democracy. That isn't true everywhere.
