As the clown show continues, Trump ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to release billions of gallons of water from federally managed reservoirs in California, claiming the water would, among other things, help fight wildfires around LA. Of course, the water can't do that, because it was released into the Central Valley, and to get to LA, it would have to flow over mountains.

But lest you think this act was merely stupid, it could actually cause very real harm, since the water that was released was being stored for irrigation during the dry season, and farmers are now worried that there might not be enough water left for when they actually need it.

I know I'm laughing my ass off...especially at AOC referring to Elon as unintelligent.

One simply can't make this shit up.

Cmon Goat, you know Elon knows how to defy gravity and force billions of gallons of water to jump over dem dere mountains

Interesting, but not surprising.

Trump issued tariffs against both Canada and Mexico supposedly to make them end/reduce importation of fentynal and end/reduce illegal immigration.

However ( 🤣 ), after about six days, Trump met with both presidents of those countries and rescinded his tariffs against Canada and Mexico, based solely on their "commitments" to take steps to accomplish those goals.

I hope fair people can agree that both of Trump's stated goals would require more than six days to determine whether the Presidential "commitments" of Canada and Mexico had any effect whatsoever on arrival of fentynal and immigrants into the US.

In other words, Trump (genius or not) has no fricking idea whether his tariffs had the desired effect or not ... but he eliminated them anyway.

He never put them in place. It was a threat. Trump blusters. Always has, always will unfortunately.

It's almost like a quick search on the interwebz does show in fact water is pumped up over dem dare mountains already. A simple review of the California Aquaduct wiki page would show that.

Actually, I think they were really in place for a couple days but, even assuming you're correct, Trump accomplished nothing, except "looking like" a strong man.

Of course, even if it went to LA it would be of little use. As we discussed, water used in cities, including fighting fires, comes from water towers. Water is pumped to high points and stored in towers, which provides the pressure to get it everywhere it needs to be. Sitting in a reservoir doesn't do much. The problem was not enough towers. Full reservoirs do not put water in a position to be used.

One can go to the link below and see how full the reservoirs are compared to historical data. There is water in them hills.

How is that "Mexico will pay for the wall" deal coming along?

Elon also founded Tesla and built rockets with his own hands. Saved up to build the rockets from his overnight shifts at Safeway and eating ramen. Crazy that Bezos is a rocket scientist too.

Both brilliant visionaries. But the breadth of what Musk has done dwarfs Bezos. Nevertheless to have the idea and ability to execute Amazon is incredible. They must have some teachers at that palmetto high. Bc that’s where the great kimbo slice went too. Reimagined bare knuckle fighting in ways no one thought possible

You sound skeptical. He's been talking this shit for ages. The morons will point and say he could have beaten back the LA fires if that shitlib Newscum would have let him.

I have no idea whose bright idea this is, but no, this water won't help at all. It's water that would normally flow into Tulare Lake (which is usually completely dry now that we've diverted all the water), and that's pretty much where it stops. It is entirely unconnected from the system that feeds LA. This water is primarily stored for agricultural use in the Tulare Basin, which is the southern portion of the Central Valley. The problem is the farmers don't need it right now. It was just entirely wasted. And now, when they do need it in four or five months, there might not be enough.

The release is a little over 6, 000 acre feet. That’s not very much. Two things. First high storage is better for surface irrigation.. Second, this release will help recharge groundwater. Filling dry lakes is how Tucson does water.

Which means to make use of it, it will need to be pumped out of the ground, at higher cost, with more waste, when they could have just kept it in the reservoirs until it was needed.

There is no way to spin this into a good idea. It was a complete farce.
Ground water is usually primarily for domestic use. A whole different animal from surface irrigation. Also groundwater doesn’t evaporate.

This water wasn't being stored for domestic use. It was being stored for irrigation. In the summer. When the southern Central Valley is incredibly dry.

Reply:

Seems like it would be hard for a forest-fire-fighting airplane to scoop up water from an LA aqueduct or water tower to carry many miles to a wildfire far away.

The Politico article I linked said there's a rarely used "valve" that can direct water from Tulare Lake to Los Angeles. No idea of the relevance, but it might be why they did it:

"Other water experts said it would have been nearly impossible to divert the water to Los Angeles at the speed the Corps originally planned to release it. There is a rarely used state valve that can redirect Tulare Lake floodwaters into the aqueduct that carries water further south into Los Angeles, but neither state nor federal officials responded to a question asking if they would turn it on."

STFU, Goat. COHydrologist has spoken.

From this article, it appears the Army Corp of Engineers interpreted the release was required by the Trump EO. I'm not sure that EO mentions these damns specifically.

I would hate to imagine that it was a technically savvy member of the ACE who actually made the call. The decision is so universally recognized as stupid by everyone with any ounce of knowledge on the issue, it would have to have been a political decision forced on them.

This is merely speculation, but my guess is that the connector between Tulare and the Aqueduct - which travels across the entire San Joaquin Valley - couldn't possibly handle the volume that was released.

I am skeptical about many things, especially what is reported about Trump.

Do I think his admin could do something as stupid as reported? Yes. But I'll wait to see what was going on and the explanations all around before jumping to any conclusions. Just like when I said "No way the Mavs traded Doncic for Davis. No one is that stupid. Let me see proof."

In that case, those pesky Democrats must be correct in saying that the Trump Tariffs against agricultural products (i.e. food) from Canada and Mexico probably would matter a lot to average Americans.

It's on Fox, so it must be true:

It can handle any volume given enough time, I'm sure. It's the rate at which it would conduct the water that is mentioned as not being enough to achieve the result they might have wanted.

Yes. America in color features the valves etc for getting water to la

NBC told me Trump is dumb to want the Panama Canal because water literally has to be transported over literal mountains for a ship to go through it...literally.
