Tom Crean Report

I agree that "baskerball is #1 in Indiana."

and the stereotype is ...and "Basketball is something to do before Spring Football in the SEC...".

The thread is about Tom Crean.

Do you really think that he will be successful at Georgia?
Orange people suck ... that is a universal constant, and undeniable..

Are they orange because they suck or do they suck because they're orange? No one really knows, but their suckage is unarguable and their orange skin is a sign of extreme superficial character flaws and phoniness.

If he can teach baskerball, he will be successful.

I think Crean will have some success at Georgia. But the chance of him winning anything on a regular basis is small. But some of his positives should help a southern football school get enthused about basketball. Eventually, whenever he finally has a really good team and they pair UGA vs. IU in the tourney, I hope IU goes zone, full game.
UGA wants to replicate the success that Tubby Smith had at UGA before he was hired to replace Pitino at pUKe.

Your continuous stereotyping of UGA as a "football" school is inaccurate and tiresome.

So, Twelve Loss Tommy and Ten Loss Tubby. That's only two less losses per year.

Can he do it?

I followed Georgia Tech back in the day because a Washington Indiana kid named Craig, "Noodle" Neal played basketball there. Craig recently was the head coach at New Mexico and am not sure what he is doing now. His Dad was his high school coach and the PE teacher. He used to make us do stair laps in Washington's gym which seats 7k or so. I get tired just thinking about it.
Last I heard Craig's dad was coaching at Pope High School in Marietta, GA back in the early 90s. They were ranked No. 1 in the state when No. 3 Marietta High blew their doors off . . . Steve Goolsby (went to Wake) scored 28 points in the 4th quarter on them.

Tubby had it going on at UGA . . . he made a bad mistake by going to pUKe. Real talents in the Atlanta area were starting to take notice . . . .

[On edit] I knew I liked him for some reason . . . from wikipedia:

Georgia
On March 29, 1995, Smith accepted the head coaching job at the University of Georgia, becoming the school's first African-American head coach.[19] In two seasons, he led the Bulldogs to a 45–19 record, including the first back-to-back seasons of 20 wins or more in school history.[20] His teams achieved a Sweet 16 finish in the 1996 NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs defeated Clemson to open the '96 tournament before upsetting the top-seeded Purdue Boilermakers.

Man, some of you guys live in a bubble. Labeling states as “football states” or “basketball states” is a fan designation solely. Recruiting is national and last I checked, there was a school named “Florida” that won two back-to-back titles in this century!!

Duke and UNC are in a southern state and they have had so many Final Fours and championship games in the last decade that our “basketball state” seems like a stale designation.

When you say a state is “known” for something and then aren’t all that great at it, isn’t that kind of embarrassing? I’m sure Archie will get it done here but people puffing out their chests about this mythical “basketball state” need to pump the brakes a bit.

Pretty good!

Geogia is a football school in a football state.
The state also produces some of the best
bb talent in the nation year after year.
No knock on Crean, but he was the
wrong hire. Bulldog fans know this.

sorry to break it to you but you weren't very good at it. and as far as getting over it i'll just say this. make me
Trust me, people that know basketball can see through your lack of knowledge. You simply state the obvious, cliches, coach speak. You couldn’t do any in depth analysis if your life depended on it. It’s ok though, more time watching and experience like channi will help you improve. You should also avoid writing like a 12 year old...unless you are junior.

Crean does pretty well when he gets high level NBA talent. The trick is that he only does that once every 3-5 years. The difference is that Georgia may not fire him for being bad in between the talent-loaded years.

I have only stated it in this thread once. Perhaps Football and track school is better?

Georgia has had zero 25-win seasons in basketball.

There seems to be some miscommunication in this thread about what constitutes success for Crean at Georgia. If he gets to 10 or 11 conference wins and makes the tourney, that would be what I call success; even if it requires him to get NBA talent in order to do it.

He won't win 20+ with Luke Jiminez in the back court, that is for sure.

Yeah . . . "in this thread" is the operative phrase here, 32. You've repeated that mantra about UGA being a "football school" here since Crean became HC at UGA. It's a worn-out cliche that is about as inaccurate as Florida being a "football school".

Georgia losing to Tennessee 53-24 at halftime on SEC Network. Just watching this to kill time before the Colts game.

Yeah, not a good showing at all. We have absolutely no guard play. This was always going to be a throwaway year. Probably next year too. Think Georgia fans would be happy with an average season of like 20-22 wins and an NCAA tourney appearance every other year or so after about year 3. If he doesn't make an NCAA tourney appearance after year 4, I could see the hot seat talk pick up some.

Actually it is true. Georgia is a football school in a football state.

So what does that make IU?

A “soccer and diving” school in a basketball state that is really just about the third best basketball state anyway?

These designations are for fans only.....and they are fans that cling to 1987 like a pair of cheap parachute pants!

You truly are an exceptional poster , literally nothing you post is true and you bring absolutely nothing to the table, but go ahead and keep the ray of sunshine posts coming. Trust me, we all care.

All you look like is a troll spouting idiotic takes on an IU basketball board. Very sad existence.

Indiana is a basketball state.
IU has 5 national titles in basketball.

Georgia is not like Florida in basketball. Florida had success before Donovan. I certainly haven't called Florida a football school.

First of all, parachute pants were out of style by 87, and secondly, if you consider the fan interest, attendance, the championships, the facility resources, etc. there is no question where Indiana University stands with basketball. As of last year IU's basketball program was ranked second in market cap projections of it's value among all schools.

But is IU also a swimming and soccer school? Hell yeah!

Do not understand your comment at all. Have no disdain for Crean. Glad for what he did for us during our darkest hour. Glad he moved on. Wish a lot of other people would. Many comments about him are classless.
dont read them

Ive been to their basketball boards. They say the same stuff we do about "not having a football team"
