Unbelievably stupid and myopic to refer to him as a failure.
Rumblings on Twitter that PSU is trying to get Bryant Haines to replace TA. I hope we can match any offer they make him.
too bad signing a new offer in the last month isn't binding.
Probably the same people who insisted Cignetti would be gone after this season.
Haines will eventually be a head coach if he wants to be, and we’re not going to be able to hold onto him forever, but he’s currently benefiting from the big bump in $ available for IU assistants, and he’s not going to make a lateral move to a program whose head coach has a rep for losing the big games and whose status is less than certain.
This is behind a paywall but my guess is this where they are getting the info on Haines interviewing with PSU from.
PSU board says Haines and a Pro assistant coach have been the two interviewed.............Banda, Cleveland Browns safties coach, is the other guy.
Haines new deal is about $1.8M, slightly more than Tom Allen was making at PSU.

IU gave Cig a huge assistants pool that is close to the highest in the conference. IU did their part. Haines is making a boatload here. Frankly it's up to Cig to retain him.
One program loses every big game they play, and their fans boo the head coach. The other is led by the national COY recipient, beloved by a growing fan base, who is building “an emerging superpower” and will soon be consistently recruiting the aforementioned 4 and 5-stars.
Apparently Haines doesnt need 4 and 5 star talent to be a good coach.
Other coaches get the best team money can buy and get embarrassed at home.
I don't want to lose the guy either, but it doesn't change the fact that, for now, they're still Penn State and we're still Indiana. And there are differences in the programs that go beyond whether we can match salary or not.
Gotta say I'm disappointed by the fact whenever Indiana has success, "brands" come in to swoop up our coaches. Hopefully, Byrant realizes Indiana fans are hungry for continued success.
It comes with the territory. Unless someone clearly has no interest in being a head coach and moving on from being a coordinator, then they're ripe to be poached. Penn State just got poached. Ideally, you'd like to lose them to a head coaching opportunity, but whether it is for another coordinator job or for a head coaching job, it doesn't change the fact that he wouldn't be our DC any longer. If he leaves, it's not going to be because of money, IMO.
We'll see how good they are without Warren next season. And we'll see how much longer Franklin lasts. One more season, I predict.

Our past success this century has been limited. Wilson got us to bowl eligibility but had no defense until he hired CTA. Wilson was fired by IU, then hired by Meyer/OSU as OC. He was later hired and fired by Tulsa as HC.
Tom Allen. Took over for Wilson. Two excellent seasons (2019 and 2020) at IU followed by three dumpster fires. Fired by IU, then hired by Franklin/Penn State as DC. Left Penn State after one season for the DC position at Clemson.
Kalen DeBoer. Successful OC at IU. Left for the HC position at non-brand Fresno State, where he had coached previously. Later hired as HC at Washington (great tenure, thanks in large part to the uniquely talented Michael Penix) and Alabama (disappointing season).
Kane Wommack. Successful DC at IU. Left for the HC position at non-brand South Alabama, where he had coached previously. Now DC at Alabama.
What am I missing? Who am I missing? Which IU coaches were poached by what brands?
