Honestly think we could be a tad better. If Archie quit playing so many guys..Anderson..Hunter .
D. Davis .Thompson..should only see the floor in rare instances..imo
That's big big minutes for TJD and Brunk..But that's all we have up front..

that's kind of what played out last night. Hunter played a little....Damezi hardly played at all. Davis gave us his token 2-3 min. Green watched the second half from the bench, and Thompson saw a few minutes but looked bad.

give credit to Brunk. He's still a little soft going up for contested layups, but he did pull down another 12 boards. Without him on the team it would be TJD vs the world in the paint.

Is Brunk our second best player? If so, that's not a good thing.

Everyone feels bad for Hunter.......I assume CAM is playing him a little right now because he thinks at some point in the future he may get ti back. Based solely on their play right now, Hunter & Damezi shouldn't be seeing the floor.

statically...no --not our 2nd best player. Unfortunately...based on stats alone....Smith is our second best player. Which is equally as frustrating. So our lineup is basically TJD and 4 other guys who probably wouldn't crack the starting lineup on most other B1G teams.

Add Davis and those are the three that I'd like to see cut from the normal rotation. A 7.5 man rotation with Thompson getting PT, just not too much.

CAM said the other day that DD was playing better in practice and would see some more time........I don't see what he adds......maybe a little bit better defender than Brunk, when DD's feeling his oats? Bad for DD, but in this case less is better.

I feel bad for Hunter & Damezi, but they should not be getting any more minutes right now, unless you're 'punishing' somebody else for stupid play.

Brunk isn't our second best player, but he has become more consistent and contributes to rebounding. It is important that we don't have to rely on one player inside to rebound and keep the other team off the boards.

Our struggles are that Devonte and Rob aren't playing up to last years level or have had any improvement with more opportunity.

Archie's press conference indicated he is mad about someone jogging up the court and not passing. I am certain Green is the person. Archie hides his emotion with the press, but you could see it leaking out.

Monday night, Archie discussed how Deron had won the gold jersey last week. The seniors are clearly the focus of his ire. Green has been bad for several games and Archie is tired of players doing things their own way. Deron's gold jersey effort never made it to the floor. He is strictly a practice and emergency option.

Our starters should be based on practice effort and mostly how players bring that into the games. I would change the starting lineup and shorten the rotation to those that have a positive impact. The five I would use are Durham, Franklin, Smith, TJD and Brunk. Bring Green, Thompson, and Anderson or Hunter off the bench.

Davis has been one of the biggest disappointments for me this season. Hunter and Anderson I didn't have high expectations for this season but for Davis I thought the worst we'd see would be his performance from last season and the ceiling being close to pre-injury sophomore year since he'd have another summer of recovery. He's been playing around the level of when he first started playing last year, maybe even worse than that. Which is too bad, I'd have liked for him to go out with a strong senior season.

The other big disappointment has been Phinisee. I know he was injured and missed a lot of practice time early but he's not looked good even recently. Hopefully he'll improve as the season goes on but I haven't seen that yet.

Green - I'm not surprised by him. He's playing just as he's always played. 1 good game followed by multiple bad games. Bad shots. Bad passes. I'd like to see him play off the bench as he did early in the season. I guess in his place start Phinisee over Franklin due to experience and defense.

Anderson is just not big ten level and hunter is not ready to contribute.

LEts face the facts Archie's recruiting has
Anderson and hunter should not see the floor imo.
If we would have had Hunter last year it would have been Elite Eight time!!! Throw in a healthy Race and no doubt final four potential.

I agree. It makes me wonder if he's hurt and in IUAD style...we simply won't know until after the season. I read somewhere that CAM said DD is practicing better...so makes me think the kid just didn't show up in shape (mentally and physically) for the season.

I'm in the camp of ..If you think Galloway....And Leal are coming in next year and making 3 -4 three's a game ..That's not happening. Against good competition..Maybe those sister of the blind teams early...
But Galloway just may he tuff enough to get 50/50 balls and rebounds..To justify some time.
Hopefully Geronimo is a freak Victor type athlete who suprises..

CAM's been trying to direct/control/motivate Green for 3 years.....I don't think it can be done.....by anybody, not just CAM. The only thing he could ever have done was strictly limit his role & his time. And Green never would have accepted that. It would have been netter for all concerned to have found him a school better suited to his peccadilloes 3 years ago. Big mistake by CAM.

Lol like guys saying hunter would be a starter this year. You are right though about last year. It got annoying to hear over and over how great the team would be in hunter was healthy. He looks really slow to me.

I don't blame Davis. To me, it's obvious his body is broken. I had high hopes for him this year also as I thought he was always our best post defender with his size and he was also a reliable low post scorer when given the chance. But it looks to me like his body has quit on him and I can't blame the guy for that. I think I'd keep using him to spell guys off the bench, but that's about it. The way he falls around and fouls because he's out of position or a step slow... familiar to me when I started having bad ankle and knee problems and finally had to quit playing.

I think that DA, JH and RT can contribute in small doses of playing time. You cannot have 2 of them, and certainly not all 3 on the court at the same time. Bring 1 in at a time to spell TJD, JB and JS.
Same at guard, going forward DG should see only limited minutes. Run with RP, AD and AF the rest of the way.

I like the idea of playing Green as a wild-card off the bench.

Put him in and if he's "on" let him play until he starts screwing up, then take him out & keep him out. If he's "off", take him out and don't put him back in.

Smith & Green continue to be chemistry wreckers.
Sit them if they play selfish and have attitude problems toward the coaching staff.
Play the five guys willing to play as a team to win the game.
Done babysitting the egos of players who think higher of their own individual ability than they are actually showing on the court.

Archie has given Green a chance to lead and do what Archie expects him to do. It sounds like Archie is ready to move on. Green might play better off the bench. He can't be worse than the way he has played recently.

The more he struggles to score, the more selfish he gets and forces bad plays. The troubling thing is we need him to defend, but hate his play on offense.

It's also a problem when he gets really hot, because he then thinks he's combination of Pete Maravich & Magic Johnson. That's why you have to get him out of the game fast as soon as he makes a couple of mistakes, regardless of how well he's played to this point.

You'd have to be a sports psychiatrist to successfully coach DG.

But I do have to admit.....he's fascinating to watch.

You guys?are all basing this off of one half of one game. Let's see if he really sits green Saturday as I have my doubts.

Teams figured out if you weave and hand off enough up top that IU's defense will eventually breakdown. They will lose someone at the basket or offer an open three. Part of it is playing a bigger lineup that is mostly slow of foot. Part of it is just an unwillingness to get to the spot first.

Hunter looks lost on defense. DG is a spectator. Rob and Al struggle to stay in front of their man. One thing that stands out is how they will hedge on their man and offer them a drive by, which they take and either get to the rim or draw for the kick out. I'd rather they just square up and do their best to make the other team find a way to score. It's just too easy right now.

Those that were the best performers in a game should have the chance to back it up. The only change would be to swap out Green. If they have a second good game, their confidence rises and increases the chance of a third and fourth. Rewarding a player you had to bench for jogging up court and playing selfish s not the way to go.

Green would have to be perfect in practice and have a successful come to Jesus meeting with Archie to start against OSU.

Archie benched Green at the end of his first year. Green understood why it happened and discussed it in an interview with Fischer.

I agree about Hunter. He was a 4-star recruit and kept hearing that he was going to contribute before the start of last season.

Looking at him now, I wonder why the expectations for him were so high. He's seemingly healthy, but doesn't seem to possess a lot of quickness nor athleticism (and obviously isn't a great shooter, either).

Bingo! You shorten the bench and rotate those fewer options in to play with 4 guys you have high confidence in.

Archie had to play the 11 to see who would step up and contribute. We are far enough into the season to make those judgments. Those that don't make the cut can keep practicing and be ready if we have an injury. Otherwise wait for next year or transfer. If you are outside the top 8, it doesn't matter if you stay or leave to me. We can find a grad transfer to be #9 - #11.

Crean left with a shaky apr....couldn't gut the team.

He took a year off from the game. A few days off is enough to screw up timing, a year screws everything up. He's only now moving comfortably, and adjusting to the speed of the game, the rest will come in time.

Funny, never seen Smith be selfish. Unenergetic maybe but not selfish.

I'll be shocked if we don't start Green and Durham Saturday.
I will too. Archie has a tendency to keep a very static starting lineup (from both game-to-game and half-to-half).

I would love to see him do <something> to shake things up...
