This is how you get the big boys (like ND) into B1G or SEC

Washington State prez Kirk Schulz told @RossDellenger in new 12-team playoff 4 automatic qualifiers from 1 conference was proposed. If so, it wouldn’t be just 1 so both SEC & B1G would each get 4 auto bids leaving only 4 bids for remaining 7 conferences/Notre Dame.

Not sure of what the complaint here is.

5 automatic qualifiers...so Big 10, ACC, Big 12, SEC and the champion of the 5th ranked conference, whatever that is.

Then 7 highest ranked teams thereafter, regardless of conference.

ND will be in most years, leaving 6 spots for more teams from the SEC, Big 10, ACC & Big 12. In any given year it could easily be 3 sec 3 big 10 2 ACC 2 Big 12 ND plus 1 other.

1. The SEC & B1G, if they get their way, would automatically get a total of 8 bids (4 B1G, 4 SEC), so the rest of college football has 4 remaining slots.
2. 3 of those 4 slots go to the highest rated non-B1G & SEC conference champs, which leaves one at large slot
3. ND has to have a higher rank than all other teams not already in playoff (so likely vs. #2 team from ACC, #2 team from BigXII and the second best Group of 5 team.
4. In addition, ND will never get a bye. That only goes to conference champions.

Realistically, I think this drives the playoff to be expanded to more teams...but if it isn't an independent team like ND will have a tough row to hoe to get in.

The 5 + 7 model is set for the next 2 years, correct?

I think NDs biggest beef would be they could never be higher than 5th seed.

Screw ND. Don't want anything to do with them.
