Of course he can't pardon him off MLB's ineligible list, but he can pardon posthumously for federal tax evasion. The article does offer some speculation and hope (for some of us) that MLB will state that anyone on the ineligible list who has died is "eligible" which would mean the writers would be free to vote for him for the Hall of Fame:

Reportedly, some of his family have talked to the Commissioner's office in hopes of removing him from the ineligible list. I think they want him to be in the Hall of Fame, even though it will be after his death. I his family will be there if it happens.

His reality show wasn’t bad. Wasn’t great. Traded his playmate wife in for one 40 years younger. Craziest is he had a kid play 17 seasons in the minors. He had something like one stint for ten days in the majors. That’s a long time chasing

Pete Rose Jr played in 11 games for the Reds. Had two hits. He had an excellent season at AA Chattanooga that year batting .308 in 112 games with 25 HRs, 98 RBIs, 31 doubles, and 75 runs. Reds called him up for those 11 games. At least he got into the Big Show once.

What about Shoeless Joe?
If the Commissioner's office removes those who pass away for the ineligible list or announces those on the list are eligible after they die, I suppose Shoeless Joe Jackson would be eligible. If you look at the stats of that World Series, it's hard to believe that Shoeless Joe was trying to lose. His stats were very good. I think he knew the other players were tanking it through and didn't report it.

Definitely. I used to live on a golf course in fla where they had Q school. I’d sit out on the deck and watch. Was amazed at the older guys out there still chasing it

That's exactly it. Landis even said so, that any player who knows of such a scheme and doesn't report it is equally culpable.

Some mixed emotions about this. While I would definitely like to see Rose in the Hall - I don’t believe his gambling ever impacted his effort to win or lose games; his lying about it seems to be a greater sticking point - I really don’t want something like this to be seen as a gateway for the ‘Roids crew - McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Clemens - to be absolved/forgiven/reinstated. The latter misfits did much more to ruin the integrity of the game.

Given how MLB has jumped in bed with the gambling industry it seems a little hypocritical to keep Rose in the lowest ring of Purgatory.

McGwire, Bonds and Clemens were always favorites of mine. None of them needed to do steroids to be great. They were already great. Tragic.

Pete should be in the HOF. So should Shoeless Joe, Bonds, McQuire.

I admire LeBron James. Great athlete-amazing what he’s doing this year at his age. I have to admit I’ve recently come to the opinion he’s taking PED’s. He’s playing like he’s 25 years old at 40. 🤔
