The latest cancellation in the Florida war on woke: Michelangelo’s ‘Pornographic’ Statue of David

Ron is getting buried in the polls (even though he hasn't announced) and he's desperate to try and strengthen his appeal to the batshit crazy crowd...

The Fla GOP is frenzily trying to change state law which requires the Governor to resign if he campaigns for a different office. Right now if Ron declared himself as a Presidential candidate he would be required to abdicate his throne...

Remember how the whole rationale for the "Don't say Gay" legislation was that it was only to "protect" 3rd graders and younger? Don't look now but (shock) it turns out that MAGA republicans lie. Who knew?

I guess the MAGA world just doesn't grasp the idea that they are a minority, and that this type of far right pandering just makes them more and more unelectable in an election (not primary) where normal people vote.

Check out the midterm results of Trump/DeSantis candidates in purple states (like MI,PA,AZ) in 2022, and tell me how anyone with half a brain could conclude that this far right nonsense is a "winning strategy"? But that just explains why MAGA folks are so down on democracy- it exposes their minority status...

I wonder what the DeSantis lackey who proposed the original "Don't say Gay" bill is up to now? What other pieces of DeSantis inspired right wing dystopian legislation is MAGA up and comer Joey Harding designing to be pushed thru the FL Gerrymander chamber?

Turns out nothing, as he's trying his best to avoid prison...

Desantis is proving himself to be a competent leader. Hurricanes etc. Saw the bs in south beach and sent troopers down to fix it. Guy gets shit done. Hopefully he relaxes the culture shit a bit

I believe we welcome the fight and the opportunity to talk directly to the American people about what is usefully covered in schools.

This isn't it.

And maybe we do go out there and lose to Trump (DeSantis is beating Biden in polling right now and I pray he gets the chance to get on a debate stage with Biden so we can all compare and contrast) but that doesn't mean we are wrong. Fighting to keep people like you from running the country is a good thing, even if you win. Far left progressivism is a cancer.

The culture shit isn't necessary. He's not going to pull any Trump fanatics (see dbm) in regardless, he of course won't pull in any Democrats, and independents will be put off if he continues with the over the top stuff. He's got his Trumpy bona fides established already; he needs to stay fixed on the competence and effectiveness message.

And trying to turn the county back 50 years is a cancer also. And it isn’t going to work. And you are wrong.

This was posted in the DeSantis thread but is kind of buried. It is so amazingly bizarre and stupid that it deserves a separate discussion.

A principal at a charter school in Florida, ironically called "Tallahassee Classical School" was FIRED after 6th graders in an art history lesson were shown photos of Micahangelo's David, widely considered one of the iconic art pieces in the history of human civilization. If you travel to Italy, I recommend reserving your spot in line to see it in person. I took my kids to see it when they were 2, 5, and 8 years old.

Some parents were offended by this lesson, because the David has a penis. Their 12-year-olds are apparently badly scarred by seeing said penis. The prinicipal was fired for allowing the viewing of said penis. The Tallahassee school is a public charter institution that focuses on classical learning, a teaching philosophy centered on a traditional Western liberal arts education that aims to impart critical thinking skills children can use throughout their lives.

No, this is not an Onion piece.

Why do I say that it is part of the war on woke? Well, that's the opinion of the school board head, who fired the principal:

“Parental rights trump everything else,” Bishop said. He added that the pandemic’s remote teaching gave parents a clearer window into their children’s education and prompted some to choose schools like Tallahassee Classical.

They didn’t like the woke indoctrination that was going on,” he said. “We don’t use pronouns,” Bishop said. “We don’t teach CRT and we don’t ever mention 1619 — those are not appropriate subjects for our kids.”

Warning: photo with the article shows a PENIS!

But ... David never got a chance to investigate if he was maybe really a woman, so displaying his pecker is UNWOKE.

Hundreds of billions of people since the dawn of time may have been wrong about their sex-you-alley-tee.

Needs correcting.

And the Wokesters are JUST THE ONES to correct them. Wokees know it all. Just ask 'em.

I hear Bathsheeba was really a lesbian who wanted a man-turned woman who would then wear a fake penis during their sex. Has to be true because you can't make this stuff up.

Which goes to the heart of the problem. Too many teachers feel as if their role is confidant and not educator. “Don’t tell your parents” should never leave a teachers mouth. And teachers should never be withholding information on the mental or physical health of a child from the parents.

Too many lonely women in education looking for surrogate children I suppose.
Great post! One needs to look no further than this forum.

Funny you all focus on that as the main concern. My wife has taught at the elementary level for 20+ years.

Teachers are frankly put in difficult situations every day because there are so many horrible parents. Parents on drugs or alcohol, parents that are simply checked out, abusive, etc. So many kids fail have two strikes against them before they walk through the door. But too few parents hold themselves accountable.

But let's continue to blame our teachers for everything. Great strategy.

We, as a society, do not hold parents accountable.
Divorce needs to be punished but in actuality it is normalized.

It might be too late for him to change tack on that. He's just going to end up a few steps behind Haley if he tries to become Mr. Reasonable all of a sudden.

I would think that parents staying in an unhealthy marriage would do more harm to kids then kids in a divorce, but I could be wrong.
Yes. You are correct imo. And I’m giving Spartans a little trouble bc I do believe I understand the spirit of his sentiment. Divorce has become too common. People are too quick to give up. And I agree in that regard. That said the consequences of divorce, punishment, are severe, and often not realized until after the fact.

And like much of our gov. The system is broken and illogical

I agree that some couples don't fight for their marriage, but we can't force couples to be together if they don't want to be. It would, almost imo, be a double jeopardy if courts punished people for getting divorced. Depending on the punishments, I could see people just not getting married.

There are some states that if both parties just want a divorce, there is actually a waiting period before said divorce can take place.

I didn’t state that very well.
Kids are punished by divorce. They spend too much time away from their father and mother. It puts them behind the 8 ball in life.
Should we subsidize something we want less of?

I'm in agree with you on this.

My parents divorced so I only saw my dad on the weekends for a couple years (not including summers). It sucked.

How do you change that though because kids need a stable home life during the school year. It would be great if every parent worked the same shift and lived five minutes from each other, but that's not realistic. I see why the courts do what they do.

I also think it falls on the parents to be able to co parent and do what's right for the kids. Put your ego and grudges to the side and let your kid see their dad/mom more then the weekend if the dad/mom is willing (not saying this is prevalent, but it happens). A simple dinner or park date can go a long way for a kid.

Co parenting is a beautiful thing if done right.

My parents separated for a couple years but worked it out. It’s the only privilege I had growing up. I’m extremely grateful and it’s the reason I fought for my marriage when it could’ve ended after 2 years and no children. Marriage is hard but for the sake of our children we need to swallow our pride and work it out.

I'm glad it worked out for you, but unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way.

Sometimes couples just aren't good together.

It’s all so hard. It takes two. One wants out what can the other do. And problems arise in the oddest ways. My ex and I are pros. Incredibly active in our daughter’s life. We text or see her everyday. We are both super present. What’s more her mom and I text daily re our daughter and what’s up with her etc. daughter spent Xmas eve with me and day with her mom. When I dropped her off I went in and visited for a few hours as she had her family over. Her dad and I are tight. Come to find out that really pissed her bf off. And her bf is super jelly bc my ex and I text so much. Even with best intentions divorce is a shit show

You two are doing it right, and your daughter will greatly benefit from it.

Your baby mama bf can **** off.

We now know why the aliens picked you.... you somehow unlocked the secret to staying friends with your ex's dad.

I wonder what the divorce rate was in 1960?
I wonder what the percentage of children born to unwed mothers was in 1960?

Compare both numbers to current numbers.

Just looked it up...

Ranged 2.2 to 3.2 per 1000 people in the 60s.

We really can't get a accurate number though now since not all the states are reporting divorces, but this article is claiming that divorces are on the decline (the article is a couple year old, but I used it because it gave the 60s rate).

60s women went to college more. Divorces started going up. Lately they are on the decline and more millennials aren’t bothering with marriage

One of my best friends has been with his lady for almost 20 years.

They have 3 kids together. They aren't married. A couple weeks after his twins were born (his first two) he went down to the courthouse and got a order to start paying child support. I asked him why and he said, "you never know when shit will go south".

He might be the smartest man I know.

I bet these same kids have seen boobs in movies already and have the potential to access all kinds of porn on their phones ect. but a weiner made of stone is bad. OK, whatever.
When I was 13 (1977) we saw boobs on network TV - the show Roots. Anyone seriously think a network could air that program today, unedited? It was required viewing for my 8th grade social studies class.

In 4th grade (~1973) we had full-blown sex ed at our public school. They had the class at night so that parents could attend as well. I tell you, that was very weird. (I think the only way a student could attend was with a parent.)

We also got vaccinated in the gym. I think that was around 1969. They used this air gun contraption to shoot the vaccine into your arm instead of using a needle. Everyone just lined up in the gym and got...shot? Can't really call it a jab. They conned us kids by promising no needle. It still hurt. (I don't recall what the vaccination was for. Maybe measles?)

In high school,* we had regular guest speakers in one of my classes. They included a gay man, a recovering drug addict (who was also a high school basketball referee), someone from the county board of health(?) who spoke about venereal diseases), an interracial couple, a Mormon (we couldn't believe he had never had caffeine), and a guy who told us a story of about having sex with a goat as an initiation into a Philly street gang. We also put condoms on cucumbers (not the same day as the goat guy). All true. Oddly, the guy with the goat was a Catholic brother who taught religion.

We was woke back then, I suppose.

Now, people want us to all go into one giant coma.

*Yes, I went to a Catholic high school, but before then it was all public schools for me. The woman who taught the class with all of the guest speakers was a friend of mine's mom (she had 9 kids). She taught that class to seniors for over 30 years (mandatory to graduate). Ironically, I think the class title was something like Christian Family Living. I can't remember the exact name because we all called it Sex With Sue (a name which she loved). I am still Facebook friends with Sue. Wonderful person. It's great to see the birthday messages to her from former students telling her how much that class meant to them.

You would think, but how many f'd up kids come from divorced families? A ton. So just separating isn't necessarily working out either.

Has there been any studies done from kids in families that stayed together but were dysfunctional vs divorced?

That would be interesting.

Has there been any studies done from kids in families that stayed together but were dysfunctional vs divorced?

It would be impossible to control because dysfunction is subjective, whereas, divorce is factual. And you are right in premise, a household with adult dysfunction and hatred is obviously not healthy either. I'm just stating that divorce is NOT and HAS NOT been a good thing for mental health.

Research has documented that parental divorce/separation is associated with an increased risk for child and adolescent adjustment problems, including academic difficulties (e.g., lower grades and school dropout), disruptive behaviors (e.g., conduct and substance use problems), and depressed mood2.

Offspring of divorced/separated parents are also more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior, live in poverty, and experience their own family instability. Risk typically increases by a factor between 1.5 and 2.

Still, most children whose parents divorce are resilient and exhibit no obvious psychological problems. It is important to recognize, however, that even resilient young people from divorced families often report painful feelings or encounters, such as worrying about events like graduations or weddings when both parents will be present3.

Progressives are a very aggressive cancer on cities.

once the cancer was injected into the cities, extremist social progressives are certainly perpetuating it all they can, by defining fighting it as racist..

that said, it wasn't social progressives that started the war on drugs, injecting the cancer in the first place, then armed everyone to insure the cancer's lethality.

or limited better options for today's tit for tat gang banger hit men.

in a fair fight, Bernie, Liz, and a hundred other economic progressive old school Dems, would wipe the floor with Trump, DeSantis, or Biden.

corporations, which include literally all major media today, will never allow that fair fight.

we now live in a capitalist political environment where the job of all corporate media is to insure only the corporations and the rich are represented by govt, at everyone else's expense.

it's not personal. it's just business.
