The End of the American Dream

My dad had his toes frozen in Korea. They wanted to chop them off but he wouldn't let them.

I was born about a year after he came back and I remember he always soaking his feet in epson salts and hot water when I was a kid. Eventually, he got feeling back in them.
Had a grandpa in the navy during Korea.
Another grandpa enlisted in 1947 and served 20 years. Spent tours in Korea and Vietnam.

It's way higher than that. Family of 4 is like $220k, and that is AGI number, so after 401k, health insurance etc.... Can probably gross $260 to $270k and find a way to qualify.

You could flip it around and say that all public school families are welfare families too, technically. I don't have an issue with the tax dollars following the student.
I don't like it for three reasons:
  • the household income level is way too high
  • once the school receives the money it is unaccountable
  • i think...it violates the separation of church and state.

Silent all these years. Epic. I saw Sarah mclachlan is coming here this summer for a 30 year anniversary tour. Incredible how time flies

It's $20k a year there? It's like $6k here.

I'm always skeptical of the true cost of private school. Otherwise, it is mindblowing.

For instance, the top private schools (non-religous) in the Twin Cities are Blake and Breck and neither has a religious affiliation. But, the stated tuition is $30K+ per year, beginning in Kindergarten (they go through HS). I know some people that are well off that send their kids there, but I cannot imagine they are paying $30K/year x 3 kids x 12 years for that school. So what is the true cost? I'm sure it differs by family.

For the religious schools, they seem to be between $8K and $15K. Much cheaper, but still a helluva lot of money if you have multiple kids.

Everything is. I'm convinced.

Dawn rises on the mountain with only the sounds of birds chirping, sausage frying, and with the sweet smell of buttermilk biscuits. Probably a ****ing scam too though.

i can understand how you could lose hope. let's be honest. how could anyone who supports united have an ounce of hope when they finish behind galatasaray and copenhagen. my god. the end of the world may indeed be near. but you know what's indestructible? this. imagine how that deer meat and eggs will taste on the mountain cooked up in this

The growing number of single parent households is a huge problem in the US, irrespective of socioeconomic status. Only 63% of US kids live in a home with married parents. Numerous studies reflect that kids raised in married parent homes are less likely to have problems at school or get in trouble with the law, they're more likely to graduate high school and college, and they're more likely to have higher income and be married themselves as adults. Research suggests that boys in particular are disadvantaged by the absence of dads from their homes, but girls are impacted as well. Girls with absent fathers tend to be more promiscuous.

Absent physical and/or sexual abuse, substance abuse, or an otherwise seriously fvcked up parent, kids are almost always better off living with two married parents.

What is happening, if anything, in the families without married parents which have well adjusted children ?

I ask this because rather than wishing to return to the past we can find solutions for the future.

Not only United. IU bb too as well. It's been a long drought these last 10 years.

Colts - glimmer of hope and then suck
Pacers - the only glimmer currently
Hoosiers - sigh
United - ****ing Glazers
Mercedes in F1 - it was good while it lasted

I need to give up on fandom altogether. Probably better for all involved.

Double Kangaroo Court fines.

1. S*****. / $15.00

2. Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton. The two least likable people in F1 / $15.00

The voucher program in IN is for bitches. If a household income is $100k+ and you need money for private schools than A) you should send kid to public school or B) put a sign in yard that says "I am a hypocrite b/c I rail against the welfare system but I am receiving thousands of dollars via the voucher system"

I am not upset that people are accepting what is legally theirs, but they do need to know they are a welfare family too.
Fwiw, our household income is too high to qualify but our kids go to public schools
More confirmation El Drado is Top 5 wealthiest Coolerite. Making a run at #2!

for so many, and a solution. Get a stoker who makes money. All of you posters WITH SONS impress upon them the importance of marrying an earner. @IUCrazy2 you're big into marriage. make sure all your boys marry the right type of girl. career girls. oh and move to a school district with good schools. 12 years of "free" education.

we also see the downside of single moms and dads etc with poverty and crime. i think marriage and staying married would cure much of what ails this country

irony is not lost....

Boomers killed it. They've ruined restaurants, holidays, and now the free world.

"Boomers have quite simply been the biggest beneficiary of a “massive wealth transfer,” wrote the BofA team led by Ohsung Kwon, echoing Dalio’s observation that trillions of wealth flowed from the public to the private sector thanks to government policy since the 1980s, when boomers were in their prime working years. BofA pointed to the ballooning government debt—from 31% of GDP to 120% during that period—and the 10-year Treasury yield shrinking from 12% to 4.6% today (it’s actually 4.9% as of press time)."

It’s funny you say that. I was watching that Ww2 doc on Netflix and was thinking from the end of Ww2 to 1970, 25 years, would have been a good time to grow up. Boomers were born starting in 46

I'm no expert on this but I read a lot, I observe a lot and I was active in Big Brothers Big Sisters for a while.

I think many single/divorced moms are doing a helluva job raising their kids. I think those kids benefit even more from a positive male role model who's actively involved in their lives. If it's not the kids' biological father, a good step-father, an in-law or another trusted relative can help tremendously in this regard. Most importantly, though, biological dads need to step up and be responsible parents. They did the deed that brought the kid into the world, and they need to buck up and be an active participant in their kid's upbringing.

Boys and young men are in trouble in this country. They are, in many cases, adrift. They're falling behind academically, they're not going to college in numbers like they used to, and many good blue-collar jobs that used to provide stable employment for men have been off-shored, have disappeared because of automation, or will be eliminated in the not-too-distant future due to AI. A good male role model, a positive male influence with a brain, can help steer boys in the right direction - - in more ways than one.

Finally, I'm not at all active in the organization All Pro Dad for which Tony Dungy has served as the spokesman, but I believe they do a lot of good and their website provides some sound guidance for a being a better husband, father and man.

Feds signaling three rate cuts next year. Looks like old Joe achieved a soft landing.

Gas prices down, real estate starting to slow a bit, another day of portfolio highs. Thanks Joe.

Trump's been warning of an impending depression. Lol. There's clearly not even going to be a recession.

i don't say this to be argumentative but you do see that biden has been blocked right bcc? that he came out, gave away the farm, prices soared everything went to shit, then manchin blocked him, the house flipped biden's cock blocked and things are settling down. this is why pubs respond to "well what plans do they have" with hopefully very few. i would argue things are improving in spite of biden not because of. and that doesn't mean trump would be any better. he certainly showed a predilection for spending too - so he coudl see his name on checks

I think that’s true. Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security enhancements, cheap college educations, were all benefits handed to boomers without asking. Because Many ( mostly liberal democrats) thought those were good ideas. And boomers took advantage. Many if those bennies have been expanded and are still there. But instead of using that to soar to even greater heights, they have become crutches to serve self- indulgent life styles of subsequent generations. Don’t get me wrong, many Of the factors that make the American Dream elusive are the result if boomer economics, but not all of it. subsequent generations are handicapped by thinking that life should be easier, and free of uncertainty and insecurity. Boomers are probably the blame for robbing subsequent generations of being driven to achieve.
