The DOGE Clown Show

Has this made it in, Musk tweeted and Trump then put it on Truth that Reuters was paid millions for social deception. Musk had the smoking gun, he said it was on the invoice that we paid Reuters to conduct social deception.

Well, you know, he was right. Reuters Thompson billed the government for social deception. Now Reuters Thompson is a cyber security firm and not the news org, but it isn't Musk's fault he couldn't read.

Oh, and they didn't conduct social deception, they were billing for defending the government for it. Social deception is how many hacks happen.

So other than getting the wrong organization and the wrong reason, he was correct. There was an invoice.

Trump supporters have the attention span of gnats. Truth and accuracy is irrelevant. Look at glue eaters like DBM

The biggest social deception in US history is being carried out right now

6k IRS employees fired today.

Underreporting/underpayment of income (the tax gap) is estimated at over $600B. Per year.

DOGE is a complete farce, for those that believe it has anything to do with deficit reduction. Wake up.
People who live paycheck to paycheck will pay far more in taxes under a tariff system. People who spend their money on real estate, or Bitcoin, or other investments, not so much.

Hard working Americans just voted to make themselves pay more and Musk/Trump less, MUCH less. And they love the idea. Let's just make billionaires tax free.

I get Trump and Vice President Musk trying to balance the budget and cut the fat but this chain saw incident? These are real people who are losing their jobs. They don’t deserve to be treated this way. They rely on a paycheck to feed and house their families. Trump and Musk and his followers are the ones who are now out of touch. Fire these people? Ok, but don’t act like classless clowns.

Long time since I was in a tax class at Kelley... But I recall that something like every $1 spent on IRS enforcement collected $100 of revenue.

The only people that cheer IRS layoffs are tax cheats. People who work 9 to 5 jobs have no way out due due to reporting requirements. The sheep have bought it all.

But Musk has hundreds of billions of dollars, Marv. He doesn’t need more money or power. He never wanted a return on his quarter of a billion dollar investment in the Trump campaign. Musk’s DOGE activities are all altruistically driven. He’s South African second and an American patriot first.

Trump and Musk don’t give a shit about people losing their jobs and families suffering. It’s all a big joke to these heartless billionaire bastards.

In that case twenty, let's raise the salaries of the IRS agents we already have 10,000x. We can solve this debt problem in no time.

It is still true. We saw it when Biden hired more agents for that reason. Don't worry, there is no doubt Musk et al is 100% honest and makes sure they pay all.

People are worried about being audited. Audits are prioritized by amount the IRS can recover. So normal folks paying normal taxes just aren't going to be audited. Yet they are convinced.

The other part of it, this data is going to Musk and the Muskovites. If I were still at the IRS, if I brought up an account for someone like Musk, or a celebrity, alarm bells would sound with a group who would immediately look to see if I am in a case involving them. If not, I could be fired or worse.

Do we think Musk has this in place? Do we KNOW for a doubt that Musk and his minions would never use such data for blackmail or other nefarious purposes?

No as @stollcpa will confirm you add 80,000 people regardless of what representations are made micro and small businesses are who will be targeted and fckd with. They are the lowest hanging fruit. Those new hires aren’t going after billionaires and multi millionaires with teams of lawyers to fight back. They don’t have the requisite ability. They’re going after Jose’s two taco trucks.

We have to have enforcement otherwise how do we raise revenue. But the target of the vast majority of agents are hard working people. That’s reality

At any rate. None of this matters. I just got back from an early grocery store run loading up for the weekend. Prices are absurd. This will be what gives rise to the blue wave in 26. People wanted prices lowered and we aren’t hearing anything about it

If you make under $500k your chance of audit is nearly 0.

There are partial, computerized audits, which are basically things they send you in the mail when there's been reported income against your SSN/EIN that wasn't included on your tax return.

But a full blown paper audit isn't happening for any W2 type employee.

it’s something like 7 percent for single black males taking an earned income tax credit

$600b per year.

Running taxes for a micro business isn't that difficult. If you can't do that than WTF are you doing? I've had small business income for 20 years. Isn't difficult and I've never so much as gotten a letter from IRS.

The underreporting of income is legendary though. Be honest, this is all about just not paying taxes, which is fairly easy to do when running a small biz

And you went to Kelley. I went to law school. Pete and Pete landscaping didn’t. @stollcpa will tell you. Add a shit ton of agents they will go after Pete and pete landscaping. They don’t have the skill set so they go after the low hanging fruit. Stoll’s 40 years will confirm

I’ve talked about it with him on here before. You’re rushing to judgment declaring them tax cheats. @stollcpa will tell you all sorts of shit gave rise to it that wasn’t cheating. And dealing with the irs is a complete disaster. Horrible to deal with.

What would be great is out of all of this we could get tax reform

I believe a fundamental requirement of running a business is running books. If you can't then go be a W2.

It's an easy one to check and prove. WTF.

You saying we should just not enforce EITC fraud?
I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying low income workers get tagged by the irs bc that credit is low hanging fruit and doesn’t require resources. It’s the same predicate for who adding X number of new agents will focus on. Low hanging fruit. Not sophisticated outfits that can fight.

The target is decided before evidence of fraud

You clearly are saying that. EITC is literally welfare payments going out the door. And you are defending fraudulent outlays

They’re not collecting an additional 600b, no matter how many IRS agents they hire. You really believe that nonsense? Or are you trolling?

That's the tax gap.

I didn't say they would ever collect all of it. How is firing 6k IRS employees going to help close it?

Yes, catching EITC fraud is audited. Who opposes finding that? But look here:

Who Gets Audited the Most?

Again, the IRS has three years to audit most returns after they are filed. Here are the IRS statistics showing how many returns filed in 2021 were audited. (These figures on "exam coverage rates" show returns audited within the normal three-year statute of limitations. The percentage could increase in future years as additional audits are completed.)

Adjusted Gross IncomeAudit Rate
00.3%
$1- $25,0000.4%
$25,000-$50,0000.2%
$50,000-$75,0000.1%
$75,000-$100,0000.1%
$100,000-$200,0000.1%
$200,000-$500,0000.1%
$500,000-$1,000,0000.3%
1,000,000-$5,000,0000.5%
$5,000,000-$10,000,0001.4%
Over $10,000,0002.9%

Average income Americans are in the .1% group.

https://www.axios.com/2023/02/04/who-gets-audited-the-most. Single black men are at 7 percent. And I get percentages but when you use real numbers that’s a lot of people

My thrust is who all of those new agents would target. It’s not Tesla. It’s small mom and pops

Again, look at the total numbers (we ain't DEI, you ain't allowed to use "black men" anymore so I have been told). Overall rich people are audited more than poor. Poor more than the middle class because of EITC.
