Statements from Pres, Dolson, DeVries…

myles & co. won

accept it
No, Whitten is no academician like Brand was. She’s actually a big sports fan. The Brand people have been gone for decades, so it’s either just be a bad choice or nobody else wanted it. We’ll see.

I'm willing to give the guy a chance...not splashy for sure. But honestly, better than Brownell. Let's face it, we're at the point as a program we need some luck. I can't think of any other established coach (Pearl, Beard, etc) that would come here. Perhaps I'm just optimistic we won't have to see Woody's confused state next year.

LMAO .. a lot of words that can simply be summed up as .. HE SUCKS!
You spent the better part of this year defending Woodson and telling everyone they were “dumb” for not seeing all of the intricacies that Woody had to deal with.
Now, you are going to blast a guy that finished 1st or 2nd place in 4 of 6 seasons at Drake and won over 70% of his games?
You wanted to retain Woody well into the season when everyone knew it was turning into a shit show.

no, they won

we would never had our status destroyed and sucked for almost a quarter century

what remains to be seen is if we can turn it around now or their curse will continue

i am guardedly hopeful

he can't be worse than mw

Or UK for that matter.

Does this hire remind anyone of the Archie Miller hire to anyone? Kinda eerily similar, hope it ends up totally different though!
I think Ryan had more expectations on the hire...he was a "sure thing home run hire". I'm personally more excited about this hire...but that's just the apathy bleeding through lol.

Many were really excited about the CAM hire also, until the 1st game was played! I dont know much about CDD,…anyone care to explain what type of x’s and o’s he runs or how his teams Defenses have been?

No.
Archie was 4’9” tall and had the personality of a doorknob.

Fans were tired of seeing 4-5* guys here that didn’t give a shit. You won’t see that from this guy. He’s the selection. Not my first choice but I think the guy is smart and is going to finally get us back to lunchpail style basketball. I’ll get behind him.

This reminds me of settling because none of their primary targets were interested.
IU hasn't been relevant for two decades....There is a reason the "big"names have passed on IU....over and over. Even NIL money didn't change that. But this guy isn't chump change. DeVries can coach...he has already. There is going to be a gamble in the hire....even so with my first choice....McCollum. But....DeVries has the chops.....and now he has the opportunity. I think all things considered....its a good hire.

I’m not going to argue the point; you may (or may not be right). IU settled for certain. Let’s hope they prove me wrong in spades.

The unedited version: After being rejected by eight other coaches, we are thrilled….
And here we have in a public forum a significant reason why he is here.
I’m lieu of some many other larger speculations.

Players don’t want this— No matter the money.
Coaches don’t want this— No matter the money.

Wake up ladies.

We eat our own.

Tastes great— less filling.

Yep. The Cignetti hire was way more exciting than this. But that guy has unique charisma and ability.

In all fairness, IU fans knew as much at the time about Cignetti as they do Devries. There was plenty of criticism. Most couldn’t pick out James Madison on a map. They said he was naive thinking he would win with his transfers. Hindsight is 20/20.
I bet Devries changes the culture here and will get the guys needed to fit that culture.

I already changed my tune.

Read what his assistant coaches say about how he's high character, and that he's very good at instilling compete into his guys to get full team buy-in. And he's really driven to teach, and he's driven to study the game and win.

Sounds like a winner!

Indiana connection? paywall but I cut and pasted to read it, A few snips below

Assistant Coach Kory Barnett. … likeable young coach who has served his apprenticeship with some of the classic programs in the nation, learning at under Tom Crean at Indiana, and Steve Alford at UCLA ...
He spent six years with Alford at UCLA and five years with him at Nevada before heading to Morgantown.

“He’s incredibly detailed,” Barnett said. “He does a really good job of focusing on what winning looks like.”…. He’s incredibly focused on the passion and energy that our guys bring every single day...

Tom Ostrom, like Barnett, was an assistant at Indiana ... He also coached at Dayton, Arkansas and Florida, so he’s seen a lot.
"As a basketball coach he is extremely, extremely detail oriented. He pays attention to everything. He does an unbelievable job in relating to the guys and explaining things to them. He has an inherent gift of knowing when
to press, when to step off the brake a little bit, when to push and when not to.”…

I was disappointed in the last three hires at IU....and that disappointment wasn't contradicted. I'm not disappointed in this hire....especially since the program after the last three hires....if it were a person, would be Al Bundy. I'm optimistic for a change.

Short man syndrome. Litttle push-pop motherf*****s with attitudes and egos that weigh more than their body.
