SOTU

Another thing I wasn't a fan of: Rush Limbaugh getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I don't wish him any ill will, nor am I remotely happy about his diagnosis of late stage lung cancer. That's a horrible disease and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

That said, this is a horrible precedent. I don't think president Jonathan Taylor Thomas should give it Rachel Maddow in 50 either.

Her childish behavior is in keeping with the #notmypresident Hollywood babies, many millennials, AOC and her progressive crowd. Obama would never have behaved in that fashion. Unfortunately that childish behavior is also in keeping with our president. Sad.
No one does childish behavior better than Trump! Pelosi is an amateur compared to 45.

If you didn’t agree with President Trump SOTU address last night, you care nothing about America or freedom!

Didn't watch Trump.

I'm just going to follow the Dem Primary stuff until after New Hampshire and ignore the other political news until then when we're on a different news cycle.

By giving it limbaugh he diminished the value of the medal. When people say everything the sentient carrot touches turns to sh!t they aren't kidding.

I use two things to judge the economy, one is the help wanted signs I see and the other is truck traffic on the interstate! If the economy is bad there is hardly any truck traffic, no one is buying anything so there is little freight delivery.

We took a vacation to the Grand Canyon in 2009. I pointed out to the kids there were no trucks on the road. There were huge stretches of rail with idle box cars. So I certainly have thought that is a good indication. But at the same point, manufacturing is struggling and my Gator Bowl trip had the highways packed with trucks.

I'm 44 years old and have never noticed a demostrable lack or increase in semi-traffic. In fact, for as long as I can remember, semis on I70 have pretty much been a constant annoyance, especially through construction zones, which have also been constant.

I’d say MANY are amateurs when it comes to Trump and childish behavior. However, it doesn’t mean you should try and compete with him. She will lose that fight. He has been accepted for/with his flaws. She doesn’t have that acceptance and gives CREDENCE to his claims that the Dems are unreasonable and unfair because they hate him.

He has what he wants now. She is showing her colors and he is going to paint the mosaic for the American public. This guy has done it. He is turning the politically powerful into his canvas and painting them for the American public. She is playing into his hands.

Right, because it's a silly measure. It's like thinking it's going to rain because a cow is laying down or seeing a black cat is bad luck.

Trump has always been politically powerful, how is that not part of the equation. He has bragged about owning politicians on both sides of the aisle. Nothing he has done has been to reduce the influence of billionaires like him.

Well let’s think about what that process would like Marvin if that was what he was trying to do. As President, you would first need to go after the political elite that set the program up. They created the playground. They are not going to vote in laws to change it. They will need to be flushed (drained as he put it) before any meaningful legislation could be agreed too in order to curb the Billionaires as you point too. In my opinion, this is where both sides should agree on. We speak about it in unison all the time that corruption is not embraced by the bases of each party. We have a guy in there that is more than willing to take them down and fight the fight but those in power are winning that fight because they have us fighting with each other.

I can live with another 4 years of this fighting if we could just come together on fighting to expose the corruption in government.

Have you seen who Trump put in his cabinet? And you think he gives a rat's ass about corruption???

After I heard about Limbaugh’s Tunnel to Towers charity work last fall, I told my stoker I think Trump will award him the Medal of Freedom. But I think it was a big mistake to award it at the SOTU for two reasons. First that’s obviously base-pandering and pisses people off, and second it deprived Limbaugh of a ceremony where all his charity work and broadcast accomplishments would be on display.

thats tired... in short yes. Do you think the status quo is the answer? Mitch, Pelosi, Schumer, Nadler, etc.... all of them have been in Washington going with the flow on Trade for instance. Aren’t we all glad to address some of these short comings instead of just ignoring it? It is stunning how quickly these trade deals have been changed because they were championed. He gave credit last night to the body in getting it done....

It looked to me it was awarded to avoid the outcries from the left and their media arm NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC from making a stink about it leading up to it. I am not for turning the SOTU into a stump speech. It reminded me of an Oprah episode....you get a car, and you, and you, and you. I hated it.

The media has already decided lol

Yeah that's for sure. I've grown into an old curmudgeon but it's just the further bastardization of our institutions and professions. Less and less respect everywhere. Casual dress. App society with people staring at phones instead of each other. The once revered professions, law and medicine, are held largely in no regard. Lawyers are thought of as used car salesman - largely owing to the advent of advertising. Doctors don't run health care - MBA's do, and now people think they're being bilked and doctors and hospitals are mysterious money-making machines first and foremost. I guess it's only natural that politics has devolved to this level of immaturity. The youth have more admiration for Tik Tok creators. And hell, some of them make more off one video than a doctor does in a month. The world's changing.... Okay rant over. I don't think political decorum is going to get any better anytime soon is my point.

Fun fact: he has more #1 songs than any artist of any type of music. I don’t particularly like country but that’s respectable.

I think all of them were written by someone else. Really only been recently that he's been "writing" with his son/producer.

You actually think Trump is gonna FIGHT corruption? Seriously?

You expect "both sides" to rally around a guy that was just impeached for trying to get a foreign government to interfere in our elections... and obstructing the investigation of his wrongdoings...the guy who has told well over TEN THOUSAND documented lies since taking office...?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Trump was not in a position to "drain" any of those people. He was in a position to "drain" the executive branch. Instead, he appointed the most corrupt, self-dealing cabinet in a century.

I asked CO what the big change to NAFTA was, he said that we gained the ability to leave NAFTA if Mexico makes side deals with China to allow Chinese imports through. OK, that's great. But we had that ability in NAFTA 1.0. Under the original NAFTA we could leave at any time for any reason with notification. All we had to do was call up Mexico and say "don't make that deal or you will have our notice to leave NAFTA within the hour".

So I will ask you, what is the huge improvement to the new NAFTA?

Our exit for a violation is easier. More importantly I said one improvement was shutting China out of our trade with Mexico and Canada.

Gawd Marvin.... you have completely crossed over. Never mind. You are all about “Prove to me” hence the request to CO to tell you what has changed. Why don’t you read it and tell us why it isn’t any better? Pelosi even came out and said it was drastically improved.

What's the matter, has Marvin asked a question you can't respond to substantively and look good?

Your response sure seems to me to be a surrender flag . . . .

Here is what you posted:

That CATO article ignores one of the most important features Trump negotiated with the USMCA:
Per the agreement, if any one of the three nations in the new Nafta makes a trade agreement with a nonmarket economy (e.g. China) without the approval of the other two, the other two can exit the agreement and form their own bilateral trade agreement. The intent of the language is to disincentivize Mexico and Canada from negotiating with China. And after nearly 25 years of Nafta, the economies of Canada, Mexico and the U.S. are so closely intertwined that it's highly unlikely any of the three would opt to cut ties to trade with China instead.
China took advantage of NAFTA through Mexico trade. Mexico was incorporting Chinese components into finished goods and trading them under NAFTA as Mexican products.
I replied back with this link, https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opi...-usmca-is-american-posturing-but-its-no-veto/ which suggests the clause is far more signaling than anything. We could have left NAFTA with 6 months notice before, it wasn't hard we just had to send a message to Mexico and Canada.

I have no doubt it is better, the question is how much better. Trump is portraying it as a totally new deal that is a game changer in how deals happen. I am arguing it isn't close to that level at all. So if the new NAFTA is the greatest deal ever negotiated, why?

So when the US agrees to a trade deal with China, MX and CA have the option of quitting USMCA and teaming up. Or if CA strikes a deal with China, MX and USA can go on their own. How likely is it that this might happen? Both of the other parties would have to agree to essentially kicking the "violator" out. I don't see that happening. More likely, the whole thing just collapses if one country decides to defy the others.

Calling it the greatest deal ever ruffles the feathers of the libtards. That’s why they call it the greatest deal ever. There’s a word for people who do that sort of thing, “loser”.

Yes a man who does a show on Barack the Magic Negro, calls Michelle a gorilla in heels, Chelsea Clinton a dog at the age of 14, a college woman a slut, on and on. That’s exactly the type of man the GOP should be honoring. It shows us who they are, in case anyone is still uncertain.

That POS deserves every bit of suffering he’s about to endure. He thought Hillary was a bitch, wait until he meets Karma.

And all of that, I still don’t want him to go through a long painful death. But I also don’t want him getting one of the highest honors in the land. It tarnishes it for the real patriots who have received it in the past.

President Obama hosted his last Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony on Tuesday, honoring 21 luminaries for their contributions to the U.S.

The ceremony was as diverse as it was star-studded with Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro lining a stage in the East Room of the White House alongside architect Frank Gehry, computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, and sculpture and landscape artist Maya Lin. President Obama seemed to get a kick out of awarding what he called a “really good class” of recipients on Tuesday afternoon, cracking jokes about Jordan who he called “more than a meme” and Abdul-Jabbar’s performance in the cult-classic Airplane.

After facing trouble at the gate after forgetting her ID, television personality Ellen DeGeneres appeared overwhelmed with emotion when receiving her medal of freedom from the President, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The president, who has awarded more medals of freedom than any of his predecessors, also touched on the personal nature of his final awards ceremony, saying each of the recipients had had a profound impact on his life.”
