Some Positive NIL News

He received money from the B10 and hired architects, engineers, and contractors. All B10 athletics departments made major upgrades with that money during that period of time. Are you saying you like those specific projects? Glass didn’t design them.
You’re the type of person who will blame the coaches when things don’t go well and bless the players or attribute the other team when things do go well. Did you expect Fred to put on his contractor hat? Just dumb

Not the posters who posted “he gone” as if their opinion was an irrefutable fact every time the subject of TJD came up - for the past two years.
You’re new here, so I will give you a pass. I’ve been trumpeting this for months.

Two things are going to happen in college basketball. One, the sad stories are going to get sadder. Two, certain athletes are going to stay in school longer.

I was backing up what you said. I’m also far from new. I’ve been on this board and it’s predecessors from their beginning.

You just casually described why he failed with the most valuable brand under his management over the course of his 11 year tenure. This is acceptable to people that don’t understand the concept of opportunity cost.
When Archie was hired it was pretty unanimously considered a home run. Not a grand slam, big name, but very popular. Didn’t work out.

I know this is the edge of the beginning but pretty surprised no men's soccer, baseball talent listed. Again only the leading edge, imagine come Fall it expands. Great initial NIL organization effort.
...and grassroots organization has always been a strong skillset of Fred Glass...
I thought there was a soccer, Grace and Mac for women’s basketball, Mullen for football and Tuttle, a softball player. Saw the full list somewhere. You were right, women’s soccer. Need to get some soccer and baseball. https://www.si.com/college/indiana/...y-organization-under-name-image-likeness-deal

While he certainly made some questionable calls, he did a lot of good things. Particularly regarding sports facilities. If we are being impartial that is.
He did do nice job with facilities but also keep in mind Glass’s tenure over-lapped with the inception of the Big 1G Network- you or I could’ve built facilities with that cash windfall. Fred Glass may have driven a stake into IU men’s basketball- I’ll never see him as a good AD now

He is good at gathering funds. I like where he is at now.

He garnered some major donations for those facilities. Yes, every B1G school gets network money, but we don’t begin to generate the money the conference football factories do.

He was just OK. It wasn’t just the network money, though that never hurts. He put in a lot of work to drive those projects and secure private donations as well.

He’s not a dumb guy. He just didn’t know how to find the right coaches and put them in a position to be successful. We were sorely lacking from a facilities perspective. That is no longer the case, which has a lot to do with Fred Glass.

I hope Dolson maintains the facilities edge, because it is a never ending race. And then improves coach selection and funding to make them successful. I like what he has done so far, but long way to go.

We should start building a new cook hall now.

by who? Jeff Goodman? like he knows freaking basketball
By nearly everyone, including Dayton fans who loved him and hoped he wouldn’t leave, and OSU who were hoping he’d be available after Matta, and Bob Knight. There are many others. Give it a rest and let it go. It was a good hire at the time which didn’t work out.

“He just didn’t know how to find the right coaches and put them in a position to be successful.” That’s the first sentence in the AD job description.

Although to some extent there’s a lot of luck involved in coaching hires. Archie on paper would have been considered his best hire, he just didn’t work out. Wilson had flaws but with IUs history, it was going to hard to do much better and the deck was always going to be stacked against him, but at least left the program in better shape than he started. The jury is still out on Allen and whether he can rebound, but he did produce 2 of IUs best 4 or 5 seasons seasons in the last 50 years and has recruiting moving in the right direction.

Luck, skill, prayer, whatever. We have fallen short on the hires, as well as the support structure around those hires to maximize the chance of success. Dolson seems to get that better, but we shall see.

Yes, I agree that it was certainly time for Glass to move on, just arguing about putting glass’ tenure into perspective

Wilson was exactly what was needed to rid the soft underbelly infesting the culture of IUFB and AD Glass knew he needed an old school bastard to accomplish it.

How much funds does winning programs bring? You are just propagating the false narrative that protected Glass’s job. Remember Crean is a nice guy and he follows the rules?

You fail to recall Glass extending Kevin Wilson in February and then firing him in November. Glass gets credit for facilities and swimming and baseball- but he was brutal on both cash generating sports so I prefer he stay in law practice. We of course did have two great seasons under HC Allen but I can’t take too much stock in a Covid season when he was winless in conference with folks in the stands.
Also Glass was an idiot for the $100 fans donor statement..

I don't know if this is a good thing, it kind of screams of retired lawyers of Btown for supplemental income exploiting everything, I can read between the lines. This is being used for recruiting, which it is not supposed to, i mean seriously, when I need the new Anthony Leal ball or JG's sneakers, I'd rather have them custom made. There's no Kobe on our roster, exactly who on this roster should receive free room and board, tuition, and a salary more than half professional staff there make?

One kinda odd note. The main guy I worked with in compliance for NIL was a guy named Tyler Harris. In this article a Tyler Harris is the "director" for Hoosiers for Good. It has to be the same person. Must have just taken this job, and who better to know what is allowed, than the former head of compliance.
Yonkman and Glass are both smart guys and Glass is incredibly well-connected in and out of athletics. Don't know Harris but it sounds like what you describe...bring in a guy that knows the ropes (as well as anyone can in this wild wild west.
