Soccer

Sort of between. He has a very place in sunny isles and I think looked at this like a life and biz opp. Like Beckham did. I watched them here last night. He is coming to a god awful team

No worries.... Busquets is coming. He will sort things out.

The real hero.

Btw. How do you say 'Dad's Army' in Catalan?

I think the transfer with the biggest impact this summer will be Onana. But the fecker will shorten your life -- lots of heart-in-mouth moments with him in goal.

Individual Analysis:

Team impact -- how he will change the way we play:

Oh their chants are great good. That was just a lull in their output.
I'm going to be old man yelling at the clouds now. Stl CITY SC games basically the entire stadium stands all 90 minutes. the supporter section of course. but you have to go to the upper bowl to sit. all of the seats in the 100s around the entire stadium you stand and sing and cheer for 90 minutes. no different than the supporter section. and it's really Fing annoying. and little kids can't see shit. and you stand and drink and eat your food. and people are becoming divided over it. SIT DOWN!!!!

Yeah, that kind of sucks. At FCC games, only The Bailey and the visiting team's fan section (a tiny sliver in an upper corner) stand the entire game. Interestingly, The Bailey actually has seating, but it's locked in the folded down position. It does make for a tiny edge you can sit on at halftime to rest your legs. There are also quite a few kids in The Bailey, and there's enough height difference between each row that you'd have to be really short to have your view blocked when standing. One thing that surprised me a bit is that I did not see a lot of alcohol in the section as I was expecting. I assumed the supporter's section would be similar to an NFL game with respect to alcohol, but it was nowhere near that. Heck, I saw less alcohol than you would see at a typical MLB game.

One downside is that when they let off the blue and orange smoke (at the start and after a goal) the field was barely visible for a few minutes. It may have been due, in part, to the weather on Saturday. A big thunderstorm that delayed the game for about 60 minutes left the air pretty heavy, and the smoke moved straight up into where we were standing. Most other games the smoke has dispersed more over the field and towards the other end of the stadium. Saturday night it just seemed to hang there, right in front of us.

Will be interesting to see if my son wants to be in The Bailey the next time we go.

You think Messi will lead the MLS in goals the remainder of the season? I don’t.
It will take time but if he has any legs at all next season he will lead the league in goals easily. These games get stretched out and his finishing is nothing like these mls guys. Whole different world.

I don’t follow MLS closely enough to know shit. I’d assume he’s going to have some fun clowning guys and laying balls off. Making friends.

So maybe he’ll grab the assist lead.

Been having trouble sleeping lately. Turned on Chelsea vs Wrexham and had a great nap.😊 Mac will now kick me off the thread.
No. We’re inclusive. Unless you’re Marv.

Yup. Depends on whether he still has legs and is committed or going to eat so much rich shit in so fla he gets gout in his big toe. The difference you’ll see with Messi is the same that separates all the great players. That little bit of finishing class. To a lesser degree we just saw with Jesus’ goal in the all star game. 99 percent of all the players look the same. But that 1 percent is just so different. Messi and that chip shot of his. The balls he plays through. Small spaces.

Morrison has no business in this thread. He knows better

Chelsea is playing in 2nd gear with mainly academy kids.

Wrexham despite playing most of their starters -- know that they are of a different level. They are just parking the bus (two banks of fours) and will use their physicality to beat the kids.

Wrexham reminds me of IU soccer -- when they get the ball; will inevitably just run down the wings, say a prayer and cross blindly. And hoping for someone to get to the end of the cross.

Feckin' cinder blocks for feet. Barely control the ball. Or maybe they just lack composure when it comes to playing in front of large crowds.

Its like we are still living in the 80s.

5-0 on 2nd gear. The gulf between the level Wrexham is playing at and the PL on display.

Hopefully, it will make sure that the Wrexham players don't get big heads just because they are on Netflix.

That gulf is there but you know what wrexham plays. And those nonleague teams play now. Even that has changed so much. 30 years ago there was no midfield at all in those lower leagues. Just big English goons sending it over and over. Now almost everywhere in the world teams play. Even many colleges here now.

so here's the latest. messi has NEVER played on artificial turf. and allegedly doesn't want to now. will be interesting to see what atlanta and a few others do or if he plays.

as an aside, speaking as someone who has logged a million miles on artificial turf playing indoor, i cannot imagine what it would look like to see messi in flats on turf. there are no words for how ridiculous his touch must be in flats on perfect flat turf

So Messi is soccer's version of Crash Davis? Cool.

You mean he wasn't aware that a few of the matches will be played on 5G turfs? WTF.

Did his team not do some due diligence or were they just blinded by the 💰💰💰?

I had that happen in college. We showed up to play at William & Mary and didn’t know they had put in turf. We had to go to a mall in Williamsburg and buy shoes. The foreign players on our team were throwing a fit. I loved it. I played so much indoor I could roll the shit out of the ball. Like the late great Stan the pizza man stamenkovic.

Our coach and I used to get in horrible fights because I’d slow the game down real bad. On the sideline it was pissing him off real bad that I was so excited. So he walked onto the field and goes “if I see the ball under your foot one time you’re done.” So we get the kickoff. Our two guys up top touch it at kickoff and pass it straight back to me and I settled it under my foot. Coach pulled me straight off. Literally played 2 seconds

I know the ball rolls A LOT differently on turf, but are today's turfs significantly worse on the legs compared to playing on grass.

As for the hybrid surfaces, from what I have seen they really seem to be effectively the same as grass with respect to impact on legs, etc. It's all dirt and sand beneath the grass/filaments. Besides, aren't there grass fields that are so hard they might as well be concrete?

I don’t know. This is the first thing that popped up.

Direct TV still has Fox 59 blocked.

How do you stream regular Fox affiliates for sports? Can't use the Fox app, because it requires a Direct TV login.

Any other options?
