Soccer

Speaking of coaches I lost interest in all sports but soccer years ago. I was just listening to Woodson. I have no idea what it is about him but I just really like the guy. Every time I listen to him I hope he does well. Just super likable.

Anyway you know psg’s loss might have been the last time Messi plays champions. No more Ronaldo and Messi is really something. I’m going to miss all that like an arm

Its been reported that QSI -- PSG's sovereign fund owners are getting fed-up with the crap that's going on there. Every season it's the same.

Think they have come to realise that chucking hundreds of millions at a problem isn't going to work.
They have or are starting to lose interest in the club. The galacticos strategy may have lost its steam.

The "Berhalter/Reyna report" is in/. Such drama.

Which office of Alston & Bird? Who did the investigation?

Those folks generally are pretty serious investigators.

Guy who backed the silverbacks. His name escapes me. Latham or something
John Latham. Litigator. He's described as the guy you want addressing the Board.

Sounds like he didn't need to whitewash a problem here. The Reynas provided plenty of reason not to undo Berkhalter.

The whole thing is stupid. And berhalter sucks anyway. Tell Claudio to F off and replace berhalter

Works for me. I got no dog in this hunt.

BTW, Latham may have received the business, but other lawyers are on the report. 1 litigator in New York and 1 labor lawyer in Atlanta, plus 1 litigator in Atlanta.

Sounds like pettiness to me. Hoopsier's Karen four times over.

Stl City Sc. Mls expansion team record. 4-0. Thumping teams. Massive support. Off to quite a start

This came up in my google feed today. So Google is now spying on my WC posting?

I hope so. Nothing would make me happier than Marv’s Facebook and Google just full of soccer ads and articles

Any thoughts from you guys on the potential Balogun-to-US saga that’s been percolating recently?

Arsenal fans think quite highly of him. But what i have seen of him (at the academy level) is that he's a smaller version of a Lukaku. Low centre of gravity, muscular and physical striker. Finesse isnt his thing. But has a good shot on him.

Since Wrexham is your 2nd team now; Ben Foster, a former United goalie and a cycling enthusiast has now joined them.
He started doing these vlogs of cycling but more interestingly match-day vlogs while at Watford incl the routines the day before a match and during the match.

This is the first of his matchday vlogs with Wrexham:

fyi. the website guys have fecked up something on the setting of the forum. I cant log in ('403 Forbidden' error message) unless I am using a VPN now! So apologies for any late responses.

Did you catch Southgate’s comments on why he felt Balogun‘s goal totals were less impressive coming from ligue 1 as opposed to EPL goals? I personally cant comment on the quality difference between the two leagues. I’m already out of my depth there. Of course I get that the EPL is the best, but so much so that goals scored elsewhere are notably less impressive? Seems a bit impolitic. The US might get lucky here and get a goal scorer.

Balogun is certianly better than any striker the USMNT currently has on roster (maybe Pepi but doubtful).

And Ligue 1 is in France. It's a farm league. Think West Coast Conference vs. the ACC. Sure, the WCC has some good teams from time to time but the middle/bottom of the WCC is shit.

Again, I’m out of my depth here compared to you guys and your knowledge, and I like your analogy as one that makes sense to me, but Ligue 1 has PSG in it, and some of the very best players in the world in Mbappe, Neymar and Messi….in basketball terms, thats like Lebron, Luka Doncic and a sane Kyrie. My player analogy may be off, because I dont know what I’m talking about. But holy hell, PSG has got some power. And while we’re there, Mbappe only has a few more Ligue 1 goals scored compared to Balogun. I’ll assume then that your point is, removing PSG from the equation, the rest of Ligue 1 is chopped liver as compared to EPL, top to tail. Is that correct?

PSG are the Gonzaga of soccer. All hype, no end product.

Mbappe will be playing for Real Madrid soon. Or Man United (to compete with Haaland).

As to Balogun. He's young. He could follow the Bundesliga (german league) route like an english dude named Jude Bellingham or like Americans Pulisic, Adams, McKennie, and Reyna (who's still in the Bundesliga).

Southgate's a tool. Dont pay any attention to him.

Recently, he gave an interview explaining why he thinks Marcus Rashford has been playing so well this season.

Yet he barely played him during the WC. Marcus was his top or 2nd top scorer in the team. If he was played more I think they may have gone much deeper into the WC.

The French league is great for young talent.

The deepest pool of young talent than any country in Europe IMO.
Its due to their player development system aka Clairefontaine. Something the US can learn & replicate.

The Saudis are offering Messi $400 mil a year. Wonder if Stl City Sc can counter

It would be stupid of him especially if he can still play at the top level for at least another 1-2 seasons. He's already worth 400-500 million.

Does adding another couple of hundred million make that much of a difference to a boy from a small city in Argentina? Bigger jet?

Agreed. Here’s what he should do. Go back to Barca next year. Have it in his head that this year is it. Just absolute balls to the wall. Everything he has in him for one season. Then get the proper Barcelona send off he deserves. Then play one season at newell’s and retire. Epic. Legendary

He should go play for Wrexham! Just like Zava, time for Messi to prove he's a true champion.

Can Barca afford his salary? Lost out early in the CL.

And Tebas (LaLiga Prez) said that they can't buy any players unless they shed 170 million bucks off their player's wage budget or total budget.

Plus with all the uncertainty with the Ref-gate at Barca.... is it worth the gamble/hassle?

Triple-whammy.

He should play for a nominal salary

I'm a U14 failure coach. i blamed it on puberty inequities. that tourney is pretty cool though. would be super fun to play
Yes 7 on 7 should be a good look … no slogging through the midfield leading to lots of shots 1 v 1 with the goalie.

I think that might actually be against the rules, ie how Tom Brady **cough** restructured **cough** his deal in NE for 27 years.

Water Cooler alumni team. We’d lose 31-1 (we could draw a pen) but think of all the hot MILFs and cougs in attendance. There to lift us back from our depths of despair. Comforting us and plying us with liquor. Until our (mostly your) inhibitions drop like our socks.

Yes. It’s in my head now.

did you peep the teams.

Wrexham
Wolverhampton
Some Clint Dempsey team (i'm sure former pros)
Charlotte FC (MLS)
Club Necaxa

and

US Women (formern USWNT players).

Now, i didn't see anything about splitting men/women. Could we beat them?

Brad in goal ala Stallone in VICTORY!
Marv as Ted Lasso
MCM as Pirlo wringing out the midfield and playing balls over the top (although it 7v7)
DBM working the polls
DANC to "Gilooly" the other teams' best players.
Bulk on commentary
OHG as GM and Head of Catering/Nutrition
COH/MTIOTF/Bowl/TMFT as chief legal counsel (we'll need it for the merchandising rights alone)
Zeke to distract Ryan Reynolds and half of the USWNT players

Looking at this, I think we have a shot.
