Shrews Recruiting

It has. One for 2024 and one for 2025. That’s far from locking the state down. Purdue is counting on the NIL settlement and language that probably won’t happen. They think collectives will end and a cap is coming.
Ha. I hope they count on that. Players and large athletic depts that drive college sports would be against it. Ain’t happening.

Purdue is recruiting just fine? And have plenty of NIL to keep their roster together.

Reading comprehension doof. Go back and read. You guys aren’t locking the state down. Not ever.
Got ya. I thought when you said “it has” it was in response to “Purdue's recruiting has fallen off a cliff” and then you rambled on about NIL.

Rambling describes you not me. Recruiting has fallen off for the boilers in the state. That’s what is said. Nice 2/3* pick up today. lol

Lots of impending dynamics for Purdue...I'm sure they've thought about all of them. But how they handle them will be interesting.

As we sit today, every player on their roster has an Edey induced, artificially low NIL value.

For Purdue to remain near, or at, the top of the B10...a number of players will have had to either maintain their production (Smith, Loyer), dramatically improve their play and production (TKR, Colvin, Heide, Furst), or come in and break in to the lineup and show themselves to be P4 main rotation level players (any of the freshmen).

For those that do "show out" this year, their NIL values will skyrocket. As a reminder, their value is what someone, anyone, is willing to pay them. And Purdue won't get to determine that any more. Edey accepted lower value than what he was worth. He, in so many ways, was an anomaly. And him doing that, put a hard cap on every player on their teams NIL value. That isn't there any more.

Braden Smith...if he goes out and has a similar year, stats and impact wise... his open market NIL value will probably be multiple 7 figures. Realistically, next year will be Braden's last opportunity to "cash in", as he isn't going to play in the NBA. Is he going to take a huge discount to stay at Purdue? Probably not, and they probably won't make him, they'll pay him his value. That could start to limit what they'd have for others...

TKR...The Rutgers big that transferred this year got 2 million bucks. If TKR is as good as Purdue fans are saying, and shows it... there's your number.

And on, and on...

Edey is gone. Purdue isn't unique or special any more. They'll pay, or they'll lose players. And if they're good this year, I don't think they'll have enough money to stay good the following year.

Yep, and Painter just keeps doubling down on not using NIL and so, if/when they decide they need it, their boosters are not going to want to contribute. This off season will be interesting for them.

Recruiting has fallen off? Ok. Interesting you use stars as your metric for good players. Probably why you didn’t like last years class, yet, they landed 5 very skilled players who are going to play a lot of minutes at Purdue. 3-4 this year, and all next year. I don’t worry about stars. They aren’t super accurate outside the top 50.

I don’t see why Purdue couldn’t pay good players. They have and continue to do so. And after being good this year, they will keep the band together and be better the next year. Edey could have left for more money, but might not have developed into an NBA starter and favorite for rookie of the year either.

You are to stupid or just faking it? In state recruiting is the topic. Weirdo.

I mean, I guess if we want to look at 1 year as a data point, we can, but before this year, Purdue had landed the Mr Basketball and/or the Mr. Basketball runner up for like 4 straight years? Maybe more?

Have a chance at singleton in 2025.

In a good spot for Reynolds and have Ertel for 2026.

So has it dried up?

23, 24, 25 you will have 1 kid. Hardly locking the state down. So a three year sample. Stay on track.

Trilly saying he's got another one.

This guy is going to be trouble if ND decides to get serious about NIL for hoops, and that appears to be the case.
Easy fix. Just steal him in a few years when Woodson retires. Why stay at a football school? Oh wait.. damn you Cignetti!

Purdue possible starting 5 consists of
PG Smith-from Indiana
SG Loyer- from Indiana
SF Colvin -from Indiana
PF Heide- from Minnesota
C Kaufman Renn -from Indiana
Purdue doesn’t get the 5 stars but they get system guys that do what needs to be done to win. Purdue gets what it needs from recruiting Indiana with guys that fit their culture. IU has a bigger recruiting budget and a bigger net with their NIL. Both systems can work but coaching and development make a difference.

Lmao…painter just confirmed he doesn’t “use” the portal and NIL has weeded out the “types” of players that he doesn’t want. You mean NIL has shown Purdue can’t compete in that arena is what I think he means.

I thought Lance Jones was pretty good, a portal guy that again IU would never look at! What a GEM he was for Purdue! Right? Painter likes to develop his players, but has landed some players who came in and produced, that a lot of fat guys with clip boards trying to judge talent missed totally on. It happens every year and not just at Purdue but other schools as well! IU fans keep saying Painter and his program are going to run a muck, because of NIL and the portal! Could be right, could be wrong, we shall see. IU on the other hand is heading down the "HOLLYWOOD" road, paying high dollar and delivering a good movie every 10 years! Good LUCK! Keep spending, it should be very interesting to see what happens. How much money did IU pay for last years team?

That could be the lineup that gets you in the middle half of the conference.

Like Edey? Like Smith? I’m sure there are others, but both have received rather big offers outside of Purdue. Why couldn’t Purdue continue to keep guys? There is nothing that shows the train is about to fall off its tracks.

No they didn’t. Pure rumor and conjecture.

How much you paying Gabe Cupps, all I read on here last year was how much better he was going to be than Smith!
He was one of the top "DEFENSIVE" guards in the country! Just curious to know how much $$$$$?

Are you the guy who went on and on about how
Edey was just BIG
Edey could never play more than 20 minutes a game!
Edey was to slow to guard anyone
and Edey had no SKILLS!
and the best, Edey would never ever get DRAFTED!
Yah, Thats YOU!

By the way Purdue does have a 7'-4" guy again!

You seem like a guy that likes to HOWL at the night sky, but when the LIGHT of the Moon shines you go quiet!

A lot of people said the favorite to win NBA rookie of the year and starter for the grizzlies was just tall and couldn’t play in the NBA for more than spot minutes.

This year is the first time IU went all in to the portal and spent several million. Boosters stepped up. The haul was impressive.

Nah.

Edey's a very good college basketball player whose most tangible "skill" is being 7-4, 300 lbs.

We'll see... Assuming they stay good this year... These are just guesses based off reports of what some guys got this past year, the numbers are actually probably bigger in total, and growing every year.

-Smith's Value... 2-3 million, maybe more if he wins B10 POY
-TKR's Value... 2-3 million, maybe more if he breaks out and is All B10 caliber big.
-Colvin/Heide Value... For Purdue to be really good again, they're going to need these guys to be good... so their value, because they're younger, could be as high as the guys above even.
-Big Frosh...if he's at all decent, his value will be enormous. Or he'll just leave for the NBA.
-Loyer...if he shows he can hit 40% without the Edey Security blankee, his NIL value will skyrocket. Probably becomes 7 figures.
-Any one else emerges and plays main rotation minutes for a B10 contender...same, NIL value surges.

If Purdue has the money to keep all, or a vast majority of these guys together after their values explode...if I'm a parent, or them even... "why didn't you pay me this last year?"

They WILL lose some guys if they're good this year. Or Painter will miraculously have a change of heart, and they'll start paying more. IF, they lose guys, then Painter will be forced in to the portal world.

Man, You need to invest in PURDUE basketball, it sounds like a gold mine! You might want to back off that Purdue ledge, just a little, but sounds like you think Purdue might be pretty good this year! Reading posts on this site can get real confusing, Purdue is a middle of the BT pack good, or all their players are so good they are worth millions!

Hypotheticals... not surprising you're missing the point...

IF they're good, the roster becomes exponentially more expensive.

IF they aren't, it will probably still get a fair bit more expensive, but maybe more manageable. I think THIS scenario is the most likely. A drop in competitiveness, with an increase in NIL value. And this will force Painter to eat crow and change. Or become Northwestern.

What won't happen is they're still really good, and they're able to keep guys for less than their value.

What would painter have to change on? Paying players? Was Edey not evidence that Purdue will pay to keep guys?
