I may be way off base, but CAM strikes me as a guy who would much rather coach blue collar/lunch pail/run through a brick wall guys he has personally vetted and recruited. He inherited Crean's group, who I think were never pushed, and then, to top it all off, he was put in a position that he pretty much had to recruit and win RL. Not saying RL is a problem, but I think he is the opposite of what CAM is used to. Not only was RL an Indiana high school legend for years, but he was one of the more important recruits in recent memory, and a coach has to have some major touch to push those kinds of players without bruising the ego, or risk the opposite, which is to coddle the star which pisses off the other players. Then there are the RMK's of the world who treat them all at the same level of crap (this is not a bad thing), so everyone comes together in the shared hardship. Granted, this may not be CAM's strength AT THIS TIME. He has three options, in my opinion:
1. Learn how to handle the stars and not lose the rest of the team
2. Only recruit non-stars, but coach well enough to get them to overachieve to IU expectations
3. Go back to a school where he won't have to worry about coaching stars and build a program that is a thorn in everyone's side.
I like CAM a lot, and I think he will figure it out, but I think this year was a perfect storm of injuries, delicate personalities, learning on the job, poor shooting, and the remnants of Crean's poor recruiting strategy.
