Seth Greenberg

I don't care that the guy wants to promote himself, but this bs about Assembly Hall calls, when NO other commentator talks about home court calls elsewhere, is over the line. F*** him.
Dakich doesn’t bother me like a lot of posters on this board. However, I completely agree about him talking incessantly about the calls IU gets at Assembly Hall. I find it unprofessional. And you bring up another good point that we don’t hear any other commentator talk about how other teams get calls on their home court. Other than Dakich going on about AH homer calls, I don’t really have any major problems with him.

Next season anything less then 20 wins is a disappointment. We will have a very good backcourt hopefully Smith takes a leap forward and Davis and Jackson should be very good inside.
20 wins is another terrible season. that number was once a barometer of success many years ago. with expanded schedules it is a signal of a mediocre team. there are 7-8 gimme wins on a schedule. beating them means nothing. 20 wins means you were .500 against power 5 teams, or even a little less. not good enough for indiana

I see nothing that tells me Smith will take a leap forward. We waited on Perea to to take that leap forward, and it never came.
smith has earned academic honors. for a kid that smart he does make a lott of bad decisions. he should also be able to detect the problem with his shooting form from videos (as should the coaches) . puzzling

While I agree, I suspect that 20 wins in Year 3 might be enough to get Archie a Year 4.

It probably shouldn’t be — but, considering the buyout cost and all that, it would probably do the trick. Right or wrong, he can plausibly argue that injuries were a key factor in the underperformance this year.

Said IU was a disappointment so we can all agree Archie had talent but was not good this year. Yes Langford underachieved but so did the coaching.. Next year if he don't get IU in the dance he is gone look at Cal just fired coach after 3 seasons..[/QUOTE/
Mr. Jones only got two years at Cal which was a total disregard to him
and the current players.

Yes. He purposely went after One and Dones to any school that does not collect a whole team of one and dones so they are all on the same page. Purposely attacking IU since their game was just over. I completely disagree with Greenberg. Any One and Done player can join a team that is already a contender and the star one and done player can lead them to a National Title. I would call that, "All on the same page". Carmelo Anthony immediately comes to mind. Hey Greenberg, your buddy Crean sucked as a coach and was fired from IU for his incompetence. Which also includes you and Dakich who would be coaching right now if you were good enough to hire.
He said one and done's have a different agenda then four year players and you have to have a team of them or a team with none so all the players are on the same page. It makes sense to me. He did mention a bunch of teams that had one one and done players that did not make the tournament. What other teams besides Duke and Kentucky do well with one and done's? If I were Archie I would not go after another one and done.

I may be way off base, but CAM strikes me as a guy who would much rather coach blue collar/lunch pail/run through a brick wall guys he has personally vetted and recruited. He inherited Crean's group, who I think were never pushed, and then, to top it all off, he was put in a position that he pretty much had to recruit and win RL. Not saying RL is a problem, but I think he is the opposite of what CAM is used to. Not only was RL an Indiana high school legend for years, but he was one of the more important recruits in recent memory, and a coach has to have some major touch to push those kinds of players without bruising the ego, or risk the opposite, which is to coddle the star which pisses off the other players. Then there are the RMK's of the world who treat them all at the same level of crap (this is not a bad thing), so everyone comes together in the shared hardship. Granted, this may not be CAM's strength AT THIS TIME. He has three options, in my opinion:
1. Learn how to handle the stars and not lose the rest of the team
2. Only recruit non-stars, but coach well enough to get them to overachieve to IU expectations
3. Go back to a school where he won't have to worry about coaching stars and build a program that is a thorn in everyone's side.

I like CAM a lot, and I think he will figure it out, but I think this year was a perfect storm of injuries, delicate personalities, learning on the job, poor shooting, and the remnants of Crean's poor recruiting strategy.
Cogent & articulate post; much appreciated. I hope that you are correct about CAM but, if you are, that concerns me. If CAM was pushed to recruit RL, then I find it concerning that he was not able to develop him, let alone use him well (way too much time on the wing, standing, or allowing the step back 3 point jumper, which isn't his strong point.

For the options you listed:
1. Handle stars - you may be on target; CAM did not get these players at Dayton and, if this is a weak point, it will take time to develop or he must find a coaching mentor to aid him.
2. The Beilein approach - it took him about 5 seasons but he has been able to produce good teams with 3 & 4 star recruits and, imo, overachieve considering the components that make up the sum. Devonte Green is a good example of development in the second part of the season.
3. The worst possible situation - IU has al least 5 or 6 subpar seasons before the fanbase & donors become so agitated that AD Glass can't ignore their calls for CAM's (and his) head.

I will agree that IU was plagued with injuries & struggled mightily with shooting - perimeter shooting; under the basket, 3 attempts off the backboard shooting, pretty much any shooting. To top it off, when the "scorers" were catching a breather, the bench would not look to shoot, just pass. Combine this with some undefined team issues, and you have one of the most disappointing IU seasons in recent memory (not counting the IU vs. Syracuse loss in the Sweet Sixteen. Boeheim use a zone; who would have thought it?)

It’s pretty clear that unless Archie wins less than 10 games next year he IS getting a year 4. After that who knows.

I fully expect him to get year 4, year 5, & year 6 even with sub par seasons unless everyone starts contacting the board of trustees at that time. AD Glass won't give up on him even at that point.

old cougar 77 must not realize I was national geese shi$$$ting in the parking lot coach of the year twice. It’s a lot like IU hoops...take patience because it’s a very long process. But what really made the difference was when I got “my type of geese”. The geese had very low parking lot shi$$&ting IQ, but once I got geese that fit my parking lot shi$)))ting system , I became an elite coach. I’m sure it will be the same the IU hoops.
I think even Old Cougar gave you a thumbs up on your response

I don’t think so. I think he needs 20 — which isn’t a great season, but would be good enough to defend.

Trustees are already openly griping to Fred Glass — saying things about patience not being unlimited. That’s what they call writing on the wall.

If he has a third consecutive 500ish season, the pressure to fire him would be unbearable.

Holy Sh-t, this might be the first real post I've ever seen you have with your opinion regarding basketball, Squarepants. Anyway, I won't rip your opinions to shreds like you do everyone else you disagree with, even though you are an Archie apologist, but nice job nonetheless even though I disagree with you on some things. :D

I don't rip everyone , and rarely rip anyone for their opinions. If you were really paying attention to me (and it's obvious you are not, since you called me by the wrong name), I rip the idiots like feepaw, victimcub, and other sock puppets, because they are worthless trolls who are here only to be trolls. You could say I am the anti-troll. There are posters here who have discussed serious concerns with CAM, and I get it, even if I don't always agree. I rarely respond to those posters.
