Yes, but the state cracked down on these establishments (raids) right before/after they legalized gambling on games. The state wanted all of the cut, and after looking away from this for 50 years, came down hard to run these bookies out. All about the tax $$.. You want to portray Hillman as a serious criminal, and he is not.

I don’t regard Joe as a criminal and have no ill will against him at all, but my recollection of the gambling issue is that they were allegedly wagering on high school sports which is a big no no. I hope everything worked out and he was cleared and/or slapped on the wrist.
