I'm sure he did. Damon was a phenomenal player, but he got more help from officials than any high school player I ever saw. It was like Jordan in the NBA - if he missed, a foul call was coming from somewhere. If charging had been called against Damon the way it was for every other player in the state, he would have been in foul trouble every game. It was pretty frustrating for opposing coaches, because Damon definitely didn't need the help.
In the state finals Damon's soph. or junior year Tom May, who was one of the best officials in the state ( and simultaneously was the coach of a state championship girls' team at Crown Point) had the audacity to call a couple of critical fouls (which were legit) on him. Danny Bush (the Bedford coach) is still bitching to this day I'm sure that Damon was singled out and treated unfairly. Quite the irony for those of us who had the experience of playing Bedford at Bedford in that era.
