Russia-Ukraine war has begun

Trumps whole posture towards Putin is one big face saving exercise according to George Friedman. Putin is in a precarious position caught between the ultra-nationalist Russian right wing wing and more liberal Russians that want to gravitate westward. The Russian kinetic army has proven to ineffectual.

Putin needs to come out of this war appearing to have won and in power because only a complete ****ing moron would want to roll the dice on Putin be deposed and having to deal with whatever creature gets belched out of the ultra-nationalist wing next.
Putin is the prototypical Russian leader. He wants to expand the Russian empire and he'll do anything to get it. He's either going to get overthrown by losing the war or continuing the meatgrinder, or take a chance on making a deal with Ukraine to keep them out of NATO.

He needs to declare victory and get his troops out of Ukraine. Make a deal to demilitarize Donbas and Crimea.

The Russians have learned a hard lesson about their military capabilities and the next guy after Putin isnt going to magically make it better.

FAFO. He wanted to rebel against his parents, evidently, and paid the price. I think his mom was Russian or had a Russian background?

Hopefully the dad has passed some serious CIA background checks.
Lots of questions.

How did he come to reject his parents’ values?

How did he come to embrace a radical leftism?

A theory I thought of on why Russia is Russia. Maybe it isn't original, but I have not heard of it that I cannot recall.

The Roman Legion Problem

Russia solves the problem of a victorious beloved commander returning home leading an army quite willing and able to make him the new emperor. Stalin
Putin has the army fight in a manner that guarantees no beloved commander can exist, they order so many deaths that the men hate their commanders. That is what made the Wagner leader so dangerous, he started trying to protect his men.

Russians love to suffer. It's in their soul. And I'm serious about that. They revel in their misery - that's why they have so many great writers.

They've been taught their entire lives - this Russia has - about the Great Patriotic War. Anyone who fights them is automatically a Nazi. They don't really realize Putin is more of an actual Nazi than someone like Zelensky is. And, as I've said before, they crave a strong leader - that's how they've been ruled for centuries.

As a nation, they feel inferior to Great Britain, and, by association, the US. In the back of their minds, they can never compete with us because they're convinced we're more clever, especially in war, so they use propaganda and misinformation to sow discord in the west.

Individually, the Russians I've met have been great. Great partiers and big personalities. But, because of their history, they just can't develop enough leadership to oppose whoever is in power.
