Russia and Ukraine

1. Chip production in Taiwan that is essential to several industries. You would want to at least destroy that production capability if China invaded.

Agreed on the above and this can be done with little loss of American lives.

2. Taiwan allows China the capability to push further out into the China/Phillipine/etc. Sea increasing their strike capabilities against neighbors.

They say never fight a land way in Asia (I thought we learned this, especially not limited war) but if this was restricted to naval/air battles do we know what the loss of US blood and treasure would look like to save Taiwan. Like saving Kuwait or more like saving Vietnam? I'm still very uncertain what China's military goals/objectives are in that region. They are certainly not as belligerent as Russia nor as crazy as NK plus they have an enormous economic advantage those two will never realize. Why jeopardize that?

3. Our image took a beating after Afghanistan. We still need to project power in that region if we would like to contain China. I see a new cold war developing with them. It would be extremely costly for us to attack each other, so they will be looking to exert power in other ways. A committed U.S. presence (read: we are willing to literally bleed) in the region helps convince Japan, South Korea, Australia, the Phillipines, Vietnam, India, etc. that we are a reliable bulwark against Chinese aggression in the region. If we are not, then it maybe becomes more in their interest to start siding with the Chinese at our expense.

Woof. Not again. If this is the answer we need to just pull it all back and revert to making everything in the US and letting the rest of the world fend for itself. A cold war with China would be devastating to the US almost certainly b/c they have economic advantages the USSR could only have wet dreams about.

Take these in reverse order. I think you are going to have a Cold War with China whether you want one or not....or you are going to have to accept the Chinese way of doing everything in the international order. Frankly there is way too much influence from them already.

They have some economic advantages but also have some demographic challenges and the problems that their economic advantages can bring. There is quite a bit of merit to repurposing our supply lines though and that can be done in a way that is advantageous to both American workers and also other workers in the Chinese neighborhood.

I think China is more belligerent than Russia, they have just done it in a different way than Russia (to date). Personally I would think the best way to defend Taiwan would be to stock them full of anti shipping and anti aircraft weaponry. The best way to deter an invasion is to assure China that most of their invasion force is going to drown before ever making it ashore. I would have Taiwan so chock full of anti shipping missiles that they would "block out the sun" when launched. And if they happen to make landfall, you make sure that any territory they manage to take has been stripped of most of its value. I would not let it be a Hong Kong type of situation, I would make it part of the propaganda and messaging from Taiwan that we are destroying everything when you come and we are going to fight you from the rubble. Make it up front that the prize is not going to be worth the cost.

Shoot, China doesn't have to invade Taiwan. They could encircle Taiwan in a protracted blockade, and watch the rest of the world piss down their collective leg.

They have a large Navy but that blockade would not mean much. The U.S. and Japan in particular are not going to allow that type of behavior.

I saw an article or watched a video several days ago that laid out the U.S. China strategy. It is basically denial of aims where it makes sense and making the cost of maneuvers higher than the anticipated gain. The Chinese have made a bunch of movements to deny access of our carrier groups into areas near their mainland. Ok. We don't want or need to invade China, our goal is to contain. So we take the sea battle underwater. Deny their ability to deliver troops into the Pacific and you have them contained. The other area they have started to push past us is in theater nuclear weapons. We need them to have the same fear that they are putting out there to us. Low yield nuclear weapons that kill an invasion force as soon as it lands.

We just need to start thinking outside the box. The Chinese are rational actors too, they should react rationally to the same things we would. So we have to give them things to really think about.

What does this look like though? If it's mostly cyber warfare, etc then let's do it. If we're talking proxy wars in SE Asia then we need to evaluate different containment methods.

Agree 100%

Talking about delusion, keep supporting the Biden crime family. How long can you support the destruction of our country?

I don't know, you tell me? Trump Crime Family tried their best to destroy the country and you were cheerleading them on.

It may be proxy wars here and there, but I more think it is working with allies in the region to keep China contained. You can work together with them on areas of shared interest. The U.S. did that with the U.S.S.R. on things like the eradication of smallpox and on arms control.

The best way to fight a cold war is not by proxy, it is by convincing the other guy that there is too much to lose by firing at someone to begin with. You have to be very clear where your lines are I think. Ambiguity leads to conflict.

That will be fine with Putin. He will re-coup his investment in tribute and maybe some new mistresses. Russia continues to be a backward and feudal country. Russian history is truly interesting but makes you realize you don't want to be anything like them as a society.
You prefer Weimar Republic society then?

👨🏽‍🏫 FWIW 2 I don't believe the whole "they're trying to get us into a war" mantra.

~There is absolutely NOTHING about this administration that involves planning. They just throw things at the wall to see what sticks. That's it.

~This is one of the most incompetent admins in US History. It is manned by imbeciles, who cannot speak (or even think!) in complete sentences.

~Their dreams of passing social programs have all backfired and failed. Their agenda is dead.

~No, if a war is about to begin in Europe (or Asia, or both) it is precisely because they have no plans..it is amateur hour and Xing and Putin know this. Ⓜ️

If not your uncle how about just another one of the many right wing delusions about a deep state.

Answer the question, ******..

Who is Ray Epps?

You are among the millions of products of the failed American educational system.

Propagandized since birth.

Have another blue pill. It'll ease your angst.

lol. Biden didn't try to overturn a fair election or refuse to turn in his taxes.

Or refuse to honor subpeonas or work with the Russians.

It used to be frowned upon to collude with the Russians (hell they used to round up suspected commie sympathizers). Now it is celebrated by the traitor GOP ;)

You guys aren't patriots. You are trump first, party second, country a distant last. See Jan 6.

BTW, to be a crime family, a crime actually has to be committed. What crime has Biden or his family committed? Something with actual proof and not just from your conspiracy bull crap sites. Passing policy that you don't agree with isn't a crime ;).

How about: He's a Proud boy who didn't go into the Capital on 1/6/21 although he encouraged others to attack it but to a much lesser extent than some others who had incited the riot in the first place. Apparently inciting a riot does not get you charged with anything as that only happens to the sheep who follow your direction.

BTW you appear to be the product of some foreign power.

Why wouldn't the West station troops inside Ukraine?

Wouldn't Ukraine consent?

Because Russia would attack before they would be in place, and it would be a disaster? Because the American public and Biden would not be willing to put in enough troops to win a land war?

Tucker Carlson thinks we should support Russia rather than Ukraine:

It kind of begs the question why we would support any other country who's invading another with no provocation.
You are misrepresenting his position. He wants the US to remain neutral. Try to keep up.

He only wants what touches his country. Ukraine should have kept there nukes.
Clinton told them not to worry about it, and they believed him. Their mistake.

Budapest Memorandum stated that Ukraine was to ne politically independent. US helped topple the pro-Russian govt in 2014. Our mistake.

Right, Neville Chamberlain.
1 year into Biden we have hackers out the wazzou and 100000 Russian troops on Ukraine's border. Thanks Joe.

Russia takes Crimea when O'Bummer is in office. Isis runs wild and takes half of Syria and 1/2 of Iraq. Thanks O'Bummer.

Trump sends out mean tweets and insults the press......he has to go!!!! LMAO at you fools.

Not angry just aghast at his positions and thinking. I'm not really surprised that he is foreign. It makes you wonder what they are teaching in Scottish schools.
Bill, I know you’re a smart guy and can see how the Biden administration has screwed the Country up in less than a year! Energy prices, runaway inflation, food shortages. To say anything different that makes you a liar! Practice your Chinese, that’s what you’ll be speaking soon enough!

Yup, all hackers were born in 2021 and biden was responsible for them all. That old dude really gets around.

Biden could have a 5% approval rating and Bill would still support him. Bill is what they call a ancestral democrat and he is pulling that lever for the democrats no mattter what.
Given I was a more of Republican than a Democrat for the majority of my life, your analysis is far from perfect. I lost touch with the Republican party when the Tea Party movement began-and during the time of the G. W. Bush who I unfortunately voted for twice.

I would classify myself as an Independent as I don't recognize much about either party that I now support but the Dems seem less noxious to me presently. Frankly, I don't give a hoot about either party-the hell with party loyalty. I'm voting for who I believe is the best candidate but if I don't know anything about the candidate on the ballot at this time I'm voting for a Dem.

Sorry, I just have a hard time buying this from most message board people. "I was totes a dyed in the wool Republican until...." So what changed? There are a few people I have seen make this claim and the idea that there was some cataclysmic shift in the GW Bush era, or the McCain era, or the Romney era is just patently absurd. "The tea party turned me off...." Really? They were literally espousing the core tenets of the GOP going back to Reagan. Stop taxing me and stop spending so much. You are more comfortable with the Democrats now? Why?

I would suggest that if you made a change at all (something I just don't take people at face value on a message board like this because it just seems to be narrative setting and a way to insulate yourself from questioning) the major change is in the associations you would make to each party. What do I mean by that? Your politics are more centered around social status then they are any real political considerations. The smart guys in the bow ties who were popular in your well to do burbs lost some popularity when joe six pack started to become more influential. Don't want to be associated with them there deplorables do we?

Then again, like I said above, I think this is mostly just BS narrative creation. "I used to be a Democrat until that Obama came and messed everything up....for reals, trust me...so my opinion has more weight now that I am telling you the Democrats suck donkey balls."

I don't have to explain myself to a message board wonk but how Bush handled 9/11 and the growth of the Tea Party is enough to have turned me off to that party. I would have voted for John Kasich but instead the party gave me Trump. In closing-get bent.

So, if the Tea Party is for something, you're automatically against it?

I think it's because your your social circle have been influenced by the incessant media campaign against conservative values, and you're embarrassed to admit you're a Republican now because all the Bible Thumpers and Clingers are making themselves heard.

If you ever were a Republican, which I doubt.
