There are rumblings that Mike DeWine might put Vivek in JD Vance's seat. There are also rumors that he's gearing up for a gubernatorial run in Ohio and might turn down Vance's seat.
If he actually wants a spot in government, it sounds like he definitely has options.

I would've preferred Tulsi but don't hate the choice assuming it's true. AG is the one he has to get right. Should be Paxton.
I'm not a Kristi Noem fan, I would strongly prefer somebody else. And this is not a good way to evaluate any hiring decision.

Given his track record, it's kind of amazing he made it all 4 years of the Biden Administration. I'm convinced that the only reason he did was that Republicans wanted rid of him so badly that Biden felt obligated to have his back.
I won't go so far as to say that Mayorkas was, himself, a drag on the Democratic ticket. But I very much do think that his handiwork was.
