Rice, leader of men.

I'm so sold on Rice and Carlyle. Hard to worry about Haralson when we have these guys.
For sure. Like this Mullins kid? I could care less. Sure, high 5 star and 4 star guys are good to have commit. But man, are they gonna be Rice??? Hell no. I am one that wants to play by the new rules and change it up.

No one can say the portal route doesn’t work because there is no data. Only muscleman has done it before the portal, and he did pretty dang good. He never had a transfer haul like we have tho.

a 10ppg+ scorer with 1-2 yrs college experience playing for a P5 team, who still plans to stick around for another 2+ yrs, is more appealing to me than a million dollar OAD who hasn't even been to his first day of class at IU. We're all still adjusting our mindsets in the new age of portal + NIL. But I am now realizing that the ole "locking down the state of Indiana" does not matter as much as it once did.

Granted, I do miss the days where kids (Alford, Bailey etc) grew up shooting FTs in their driveway, pretending they were playing for IU in the Hall and about to make two game-winning free throws....while their boom box played Mellencamp's Rain on the Scarecrow.

Those days are gone. If IU is to become a "dream school" again, they'll have to stay up with all the things modern day kids pay attention to. And that's basically technology related things, NIL deals, allowing their players to have social media presence, etc...

As with most things, IU's coaching staff should always strive for the best possible blend of talent and experience they can achieve with their roster, every year. They have a number of guys on their roster now, that have been at IU now for multiple years. So all this "they're buying a team"...is largely BS. Basically, a school like IU should strive to find that best balance between talent and experience. They have the resources to largely do what they want. So find that balance.

It'll fluctuate from year to year, but I would think a decent guideline would be to return around half your roster every year, and replace and refresh half your roster ever year. And from the new guys coming in, have a decent mix and blend of likely multi year guys, and 1 and dones.

This seems to make sense, to me. And it happens to be exactly what Woodson has with this roster.

I've long been a firm believer that having a guiding force as your PG, is basically essential to win big. I used to think the PG needed to be the traditional version, what usually comes to mind when you say "Point Guard"...pass first, defensive minded, vocal leader, etc... Obviously, that's not necessary. I do still think a team goes as their PG goes though. And that the PG needs to fit the team needs, and lead the team, not fight against its other good parts.

If Rice is a great "leader of men", and he fits in alongside our other talented players, this could be a special year versus what we've been used to lately.

we did not have Mellencamp in the hood.

He’s the real deal. He will be the best guard in the B1G. He has all the things needed. Oh Cav…I’ve been making fun of Dakich on X. He’s finally down to the “tough guy” comment. 😂😂🤣
Braden Smith was named preseason POY today. Should be interesting to see he and Rice go at it.

The young man has been through a lot outside of basketball
I get he has gone through some health issues. Cancer is no joke! Happy for the young man and that he is healthy and I wish him the best. But can we taper down the expectations until we see how he adjusts to the Big 10?

Just like u said about Tamar Bates right. Can you just wait to see how he plays before you slob on his knob?

Not sure if you noticed but I was talking about listening to him talk. Basketball is a huge mental sport. Some great coach had a saying about that, anyways. He has won at life, beat cancer and talks about team first etc. you can tell a lot about his IQ and work ethic from that interview. Gonna be a great player.

Tamar is gonna crush this year btw. Slob on those nuts. 🥜

I hope he does and wins 12 games for that Missouri team.

I think the portal is a great way to fill holes and make up for misses on the recruiting trail. Right now we have:
5 seniors
2 juniors....I think we'll get Goode an additional year.
4 sophomores: Mgbako5☆, Carlyle and Cupps4☆ and Rice a 3☆
2 frosh: Tucker5☆ and RS Newton a 4☆

So maintaining balance and recruiting classes that look like our Sophomore group while using the portal to maintain the balance and talent will be the key.

A class of Reibe, Mullins and Sisley with 3 transfers that accomplishes that would be a successful model to follow IMO.

I could care less how many games he wins at Mizzu I do wanna see him playing in the G league next year. Still think he can get more points in the NBA than Romeo. If that happens I’m gonna shove it down many on here’s throat.

Most will forget, or will move the goal posts. I haven't really checked many receipts on the Braden Smith convos I had a couple years ago. Mainly because I lost interest, and I don't really care how good he is. But there are A LOT of "experts" on here that still haven't acknowledged how wrong they were about him.

Tamar can ball. I don't think he's NBA level, never have. When I look at bench guys in the NBA, guys that are struggling to make teams or gain reliable roles... those guys are all SOOO much better than what Tamar has looked like in college so far. He's not dynamic enough, for his size, to overtake the bevy of 6-6, long, athletes out there that NBA teams are clamoring for. He's also waaayy too inconsistent, or has been thus far, for NBA GMs to put faith in him as an "instant offense" type guy.

But I hope you're right. I wish he had worked out better at IU. I love his overall attitude and demeanor.

He is a long shot for the nba now. But will for sure get some Gleague time or will go over seas. We shall see!

Watching him in that St John's game I was thinkin this cat was going to be a 14/4/3apg guy as a sophmore. Never happened :(.

I hope he ends up being able to make really good money playing ball, wherever it is. I'm sure he's getting a good amount now from Mizzou. Hope that continues somewhere professionally.

Oh you mean he hasn’t blocked you?

Never liked Dakich, not as a player, not as a coach, and not now as a personality (I guess that is what you call him).

Getting the ball stolen while staring at the bench in UVA tourney game is one of the worst plays in IU history.
