Oats would take the job but unlike Otzelberger he hasn’t renegotiated his ridiculous buyout (We coujd start a GoFundMe 😂). If none of the three wanted the job, I’m in on Beard. I’m not a fan of the above average retreads (Cronin, Buzz, etc.), nor McCollum as he coujd be the next Bo Ryan or also the next Todd Lichliter.

I like Otzelberger. I’ve watched his team play a few games and am impressed especially against Houston down his top 2 scorers.

Well, if you look at history, there are teams like Oregon who were abysmal in football for decades. They committed to it and made an investment in it.
I get that you are the Notre Dame football / IU basketball guy on the board. I have a buddy who is this profile as well. You want it to be how it has always has been but I can tell you that unless you have been living in a cave, the entire landscape of college athletics is being driven by football. You have to put max effort into it or you are sunk.
The top-25 of basketball is littered with schools who have long been identified as “football schools,” so it would seem that if you can get good coaching in place, it’s a much easier build.
IU fans are actually starved for a good football program….and they will turn out (just like the back half of last year) when they have a competent coach and they put a product on the field that is worth watching.

Sure, football drives revenue in college sports.

But, historically basketball has been a crown jewel of IU sports for the fans, for national recognition and for driving donor money. Football has been mostly an afterthought.

Cignetti has said several times he wants to shift more to high school recruiting. However, that takes time because the staff have to build relationships with the HS programs. Therefore, we're more portal heavy early on. He's only been here 15 months.

IU is making a serious push to get out of the bottom of the conference to at least be mid-pack. That could be worth ten of millions to IU's athletic dept, which is also going to be good for basketball.

That’s not true, neither were going to start and that’s why they left. Coogan who transferred to IU was the backup center and took over when Craig tore his ACL in week 4 or 5.
Spindler was the swing guy and was going to be 7th guy in the OL scheme of things. Coogan 6th man.

Assembly is like Phog Allen, ND stadium, Camden, Madison Square, Rose bowl, Wrigly, Fenway.
People want to go to say they saw a game there. Memorial isn’t that place. Did you got to the ND/IU game? I did and waaaay different than IU game day atmosphere.

I'm with you on AH. I think a good architect could incorporate the banners and vertical feel, but modernize the arena and improve the views for the upper level seats.

Iowa brings in around $15-20M more revenue per year than IU, that's a lot. We aren't even close to Wisconsin, they have about $50M more (33%) annual revenue than IU and in the last 20 years have beat us in football and bball consistently.

That's the problem. The places you're referring to are all outdoors which gives you way more options than someplace like SSAH. While not an architect myself, I have a hard time seeing how you can make SSAH more fan friendly. Obstructed views , the "tunnel effect " rows 36 and up, or so the Memorial Stadium presents a lot more opportunities to enhance, expand, modernize.

This has, I guess really gone off the rails. The original point, Scott did not have the latitude to f up the football hire. The days of football being something to tide us over until bball season aren't part of the plan anymore.

I can tell, another random argument. I never said FB had to be good for BB to be good. I said FB is the key the AD's financial success, which is why the FB hire was important. And the more $ the AD brings in, the more we can spend on BB, which is a nice bonus.
