He’s the best coach that we could offer who actually WANTS the job. Only IU could screw this up…

I always have felt hitting a girl is about as low as you can go. However, I have seen girls that should be knocked out in situations. You have read more about this than I have but no idea how nuts she was. Could be all him for sure. This does not change my previous stance. I spent some time reading about Beard's domestic violence case. I get that charges were dropped and she changed her statement stating she wasn't choked during the attack but there was physical evidence of an attack. There a lot's of motivations that could have led her to change her statement. I believe in second chances and I believe he is getting one. While I think he would win big at IU, spouse abuse isn't something that I can look past. To me the only things more egregious are child abuse rape and murder. I'm sure I'm not alone in these feelings. I've seen the argument that this isn't a morality job it's a coaching job and I get that I only have four morality requirements no history of child abuse, wife beating, rape or murder. Those are hard stops for me.
I'm sure Dolson will find the juice isn't worth the squeeze with CB ... and I'm sure he realizes there are solid candidates out there who don't choke and bite. This does not change my previous stance. I work in pediatric health care and my experience is the opposite. I see lots of victims that do not get their justice. Somethings are hard to prove. Being a victim becomes an illness and many, many, many go back to the abuser. Some even to their demise. It might be because of my life experience that I'm so sensitive to the topic.
What you would understand if you had more life experience perhaps, like those of us who have careers that involve dealing with these kinds of situations often, is that it can be very easy for a spouse or significant other to get tarred and feathered as a “wife beater” when sometimes nothing could be further from the truth. Sometimes people who weren’t actually the aggressors get charged when they defend themselves. None of us can really know the truth about Beard’s situation from just a police report. It’s impossible and that’s why DV is different from those other things on your list of disqualifiers…
Not our business…is this done at other professions? Actually it is illegalWhat are your thoughts on if hired the vetting being made public to win fan confidence
why is D2 not an option?I would challenge everyone on here to think about if your worst moment in life was made public to all. I’ll assume you’d want grace and forgiveness and not lose your career, etc. If Beard has a history of unacceptable behavior it will come up during vetting. If this was a one off , people make mistakes , learn from those mistakes, and then move on. If that’s the case he should be the target. We are not getting Stevens , May , Donovan , Pitino , Pearl , Oats , etc. And with the state of the program , going for a D2 should not be an option.
Not true. They can ask you. You don’t have to answer. Plus his charges are public. Not our business…is this done at other professions? Actually it is illegal
The charges were dropped, end of story. IU can’t make this information public in an interview. Not true. They can ask you. You don’t have to answer. Plus his charges are public.
Cig was a low risk hire, if they hit on him great. If he didn’t win…well it’s Indiana football. Not much pressure on missing that hireIMHO Hoosier Hoops has zero margin of error due to the 25+ years of bad decisions. They have to get this right with a proven D1 coach who can flip it similar to Pope , Louisville, etc. program is in life support. I understand the Cig comparisons and get it, but if they miss again , program will be finished.
Lmao. They can make it a condition in his contract if they want. Anything goes if he signs it. Will they? Probably not. Most likely it won’t be addressed at all.The charges were dropped, end of story. IU can’t make this information public in an interview.
Nah, we have already been in that position for many years. The next coach will be responsible for getting us out of the situation we have been in for quite some time. It just takes 10-15 years to become a run of the mill team. IU is that but we have the resources to quickly be a top contender again, with the right coach.IMHO Hoosier Hoops has zero margin of error due to the 25+ years of bad decisions. That would be a very good idea. What are your thoughts on if hired the vetting being made public to win fan confidence
Make what a condition? To air any past instances? Man, I hope my employer doesn’t air the time I got caught in the middle of a keg stand and got a minor in possession lol. Coach ran our asses off in practice for that one.Lmao. They can make it a condition in his contract if they want. Anything goes if he signs it. Will they? Probably not. In fairness the statement was “we have to get it right with woody and Archie. Yet here we are still diehard morons.IMHO Hoosier Hoops has zero margin of error due to the 25+ years of bad decisions. That would be a terrible idea. An employer making public its vetting? That would be a very good idea.
It's pointless the anti beard folks are going to stay anti beard no matter what. If we hire him and they quit watching so be it. The arena will still be packed.

But you aren't making the hire and neither am I. So it doesn't really matter what we think. This does not change my previous stance. I spent some time reading about Beard's domestic violence case. It’s just the financial future of IU’s athletic dept. Football is king.Cig was a low risk hire, if they hit on him great. If he didn’t win…well it’s Indiana football. Not much pressure on missing that hire
Ole Miss addressed it, they didn't make every detail public but they made a statement to the effect of "we looked into it and are satisfied that it did not happen as reported/will not happen again". If hired here, I would guess Dolson will at least say that much. That would be a very good idea.
I would love if someone could link the best summary of what actually happened. Facts are very important here, I’m sure a reputable outlet covered it at some point.Ole Miss addressed it, they didn't make every detail public but they made a statement to the effect of "we looked into it and are satisfied that it did not happen as reported/will not happen again". Yes but would anyone have noticed if Cig didn’t pan out or would it be just…IU football still suckingIt’s just the financial future of IU’s athletic dept. Football is king.
Scott isn’t just judged on who “notices.” He is heavily judged on athletic dept revenue, especially with the rev share cost starting. And when it comes to athletic dept financials, football is driving 80%+ of it. So it wasn’t a low pressure hire.Yes but would anyone have noticed if Cig didn’t pan out or would it be just…IU football still sucking
I don't know if this is the best summary but from searching for news about his hire at Ole Miss:I would love if someone could link the best summary of what actually happened. Facts are very important here, I’m sure a reputable outlet covered it at some point.
Big ten shares the revenue..Scott isn’t just judged on who “notices.” He is heavily judged on athletic dept revenue, especially with the rev share cost starting. And when it comes to athletic dept financials, football is driving 80%+ of it. So it wasn’t a low pressure hire.
Lol, much more to it. FB is the key to everything.Big ten shares the revenue..
You are right. But I'm just stating my stance as a life long fan of 45 years. Literally half my life IU was something special and the other half irrelevant. I live a stressful life and IU basketball has always been my escape to focus on something that means absolutely nothing. I no longer live in Indiana I have two kids at two different universities and it might be time to just change my alliances. I know this means nothing to you or to the university but it will be hard to leave something behind that I have bonded with family and friends over such a long period of time. IU bball has given me some amazing memories that I will be forever thankful for. It would be very hard for me to cheer for someone who treated a women like that that has been described in the police report. Call it moral high ground or whatever but again I don't care what the coach has done in the past as long as it doesn't include women or child abuse, rape or murder. But you aren't making the hire and neither am I. So it doesn't really matter what we think.
Simple argument to make in a vacuum, but you ignore context. Beard has a high-level job in the public eye. Information--both good and bad-- reach the masses; it comes with the territory.I would challenge everyone on here to think about if your worst moment in life was made public to all.
Right but is Domson truly evaluated on not hitting ons football hire? Something no other AD in IU history has done. No he isn’t..Lol, much more to it. FB is the key to everything.
Scott and Pam will need their justification because they will be under heavy fire for awhile. We’ll see if they go this route…Ole Miss addressed it, they didn't make every detail public but they made a statement to the effect of "we looked into it and are satisfied that it did not happen as reported/will not happen again". If hired here, I would guess Dolson will at least say that much.
IU bball coach with a zero tolerance policy. Damn I'm having some deja vu right now.......That would be a very good idea.
If it happened while employed, yes different story than something in the past that no charges filed.Simple argument to make in a vacuum, but you ignore context. Beard has a high-level job in the public eye. Information--both good and bad-- reach the masses; it comes with the territory.
If he did something positive, that would be reported as well. If, for example, we volunteered 100 hours at a community shelter, no one would know. If Beard did, it would be news ... and he would be praised. Works both ways.
While I'm far from a household name or anything, I do have a public job of sorts. If I were involved in a choking/biting incident, word would go well beyond my bosses and colleagues. I realize my actions are under a microcoscope to some degree, so, if I made a "mistake" like that, I'd fully expect and deserve the backlash.
I'm not advocating for or against CB, but he knew public scrutiny was part of the job description when he entered the profession.
He is judged more on FB than BB. FB is all that really matters. He can miss this BB hire and his job isn’t at risk because FB has significantly improved.Right but is Domson truly evaluated on not hitting ons football hire? Something no other AD in IU history has done. No he isn’t..
