I love football, but I've never dug into it like I try to with basketball, especially on a national level. I was asked to put together a little recruiting snapshot of the last few years by a friend who was arguing that IU has been on a steady climb for the last 15 years or so. He contends that IU is just now reaching the point where any expectations whatsoever can even be considered, because it had fallen so far behind in the FB arms race.
Anyway, here is what I put together for him. The chart starts in 2005 showing the previous 4 recruiting classes in total, broken down by percentage of 2 Star, 3 Star etc.
I'm not saying that I agree with him or disagree, but I think he at least makes a pretty good point in light of these numbers. Apparently, this most recent class is IU's highest rated class ever, which would seem to be in agreement with the overall trend.

And some people don’t understand that IU is historically a 5-win football team at best. Let Allen build. Also, let Miller build a couple more years. Then we’ll judge Glass.

AND, it's statements like that that add to the perception of program instability that recruits, that our program needs and wants, sense as they review these fan forums. Then you wonder why much of the major talent looks the other way. What CAM and staff needs most is positive support until he does or does not prove himself which is much harder to do would a bunch of anchors around his neck which you delighted to add to.
