Ranking All 18 B10 Football HC's - Article from Wisky site

Actually pretty reasonable take imo. I'd move Ferentz to 3rd, Cig to 4th, Bielema to 5th, and Franklin to 6th. I'd keep the other 14 right where he has them in the article.

I'd go with this:

1) Lanning
2) Cignetti
3) Bielema

Day is an enigma because he's so difficult to evaluate given the head and shoulders better depth of pure talent he's given to work with along with his overwhelming resources (as in $$$$$$$$$$$$$).....

The USC, P$U, MI, and NE coaches are all overrated in my opinion...

The p u coach gets the very last slot simply because he was foolish enough to go there... The MD Coach is next to last and the rest you can write their names on note cards and toss them in the air listing the order they land in to get the middle rankings...

I don’t like Day, but he won a national title and basically only loses to elite teams/UM. Other schools like Texas spend huge and don’t get it done. I’d have Day in place of Bert and somewhere in the top-3.

Interesting take on Odom. lol I’d have put him above Locks as well as Braun.

I’d probably go

Day
Lanning
Brett B
Franklin
Cig

Solid top 5

'Previous Rank' , Sherrone Moore 10th, Cignetti 17th? Guess it's not based on actual, you know, head coaching. Those rankings seemed somewhat tied to the historic strength of the programs.

I'd have Northwestern's Braun above Locksley. A few others I'd move around.

I think James Franklin is good, although there's a bunch of coaches in the middle of that list that could be higher than him. I saw him turn around Vanderbilt before he poached them on the way out. Team wasn't poorly coached under Bobby Johnson but the recruiting ramped up and the offense got better.

I'd bump Ferentz down only because maybe he hasn't adapted to the era as well, but still chugging along, he can coach.

Not sure why they love Rhule so much.

Any list that doesn't have Ryan Day 1 and Dan Lanning 2 just isn't right.

Top 5
1: Day
2: Lanning
3: Cig
4: Franklin
5: Bert B
I guess guys like Day, Franklin and Lanning always get to the top, but they have so much talent to work with at their schools. Of course they are responsible for recruiting that talent but that is also so much easier at those schools. Therefore I tend to think that given the environment they are in I would give Cig and Bret a lot more credit for winning at a tougher school to acquire talent.

Recruiting is a thing head coaches must do and put in the time for (look at our current basketball situation), so I'm not sure why that's held against them.

Not held against them. They do get the job done. Just not the hill to climb that others have to deal with.
Isn’t that smaller hill created by the HC? It’s not the program itself if so then why did Miami, Nebraska and USC fall off? Day benefited by following Meyer but that was 6 years ago. There wasn’t one kid on that team that won the NC that played for Meyer. For years Kirby Smart was considered an overrated coach until he won a title. Now Sark and Franklin are overrated, until they win. Lanning has yet to win but I think it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to tell he’s a rockstar and it’s not a question of if but when he finally wins one.

Is Day really better than Moore at UM? He's never beat him, and Harbaugh owned Day at the end. There are a lot of coaches that could have won with OSU this year and beat UM to boot.
That super OSU roster was built under Day and there are other schools with mega NIL (for example Oregon, Texas, A&M, UGA) and they didn’t get it done. I’ve got to give Day a lot of credit. Just my opinion I don’t care to fight over this.
