crazy how close their stats were at iu and then both made 3 all-star games in the NBA. before my time but always heard they were outstanding players

I was in Phoenix for my honeymoon in 1977 and my wife's relatives took me to a Phoenix Suns game against the Pacers That night the Suns honored Dick on his retirement, retired his jersey, and showed highlights of his career with IU and the Suns. It was a real thrill to be there.

For me the Van Arsdale twins were the poster players for IUBB. I read about their HS exploits every week. Got to view IUBB games on TV while they played for the Crimson and Cream. As a young guy a couple years behind them they were roll models to me and tons of other Hoosier boys. DVA R.I.P.

Among all NBA players from the state of Indiana, Dick Van Arsdale was 2nd all time in free throws (ahead of Larry Bird), and 4th in minutes played, while putting up over 15,000 points in 12 seasons.

The Van Arsdale twins were consistently productive, and that is truly an understatement, or perhaps you just double it.

I heard an interesting story about Dick, that he got into a fight with Rick Barry and knocked out Barry with one punch.

Manual lost to Kokomo in the state championship game in 61. A guy named Jim "Goose" Ligon was too much for Manual. He played for Kentucky in the ABA. I think I recall that correctly.
I had a great seat in Butler Fieldhouse for that game. Great game!
Kokomo: Goose Ligon, Rich Scott (pitched baseball @IU), Ron Hughes played hoops for Purdue.
