Purdue Rumor

I've heard that Eastern Mennonite University has thrown a blank check in front of him along with a pre-furnished loft above the sheep barn...., And... unlimited use of his own buggy 24/7...

It'll be tough offer to beat...

Supposedly there's a immediate Coaching opportunity available when he graduates too...

Not sure I've seen it posted here, but Cam Heide is in the portal. I listened to the Sleepers episode and they had an interesting take. Said Heide was playing at their Rec Center with Braden Smith as recently as this week and that he and Smith are extremely close. Thought it odd that both he and Colvin would hit the portal as 1 leaving would open the door to the position and PT for the other. Their comment was Heide leaving makes no sense, unless he knows Smith is likely out the door also. With Smith, and their big man add, they viewed PU as a top 5 program and likely F4 contender next year so basically felt Heide was walking from an opportunity to be a starter on a top 5, F4, conference champion type season.

You may be right, but I would guess otherwise. At 6'0' 170 lbs., I don't think that Smith has much of an NBA future.
Yes, but his arm length to stature ratio is in proportion to that more commonly found in monkeys. Plus, his extreme flexibility allows for bodily contortions similar to that of Old World primates. Both are assets for assists, an important statistic in the formula of winning basketball.

Not sure Heide would start. No idea where actually. Starters are likely smith, cox, Loyer, TKR, cluff with Jacobson, Harris, and Heide off the bench. Then have Benter, Burgess (if healthy) and West.

Didn't Heide outperform Cox pretty significantly over the last half of the year?

I wouldn’t say out perform. They are very different players, but inconsistent. Heide really played well to end the year though. Cox did as well. One was a true freshman, one a RS sophomore. Wish Heide had stayed, but he wouldn’t have started.

Funny how the guy wouldn't have started... after he leaves. Not the opinion of others
Who would he have started over? This opinion has nothing to do with Heide leaving and everything to do with the current roster and a year of evidence.

I don't claim to be an insider or have access to those in the know. But I can share that I had lunch today with a regular group that typically gets together once a month, or so. Today we were joined by a "friend of a friend." This guy appeared to be very well connected to recruiting in IN/IL/MI/OH/KY. He did not come off as a blowhard, someone looking for attention. With most of what he did share, he was very measured with his comments. There was one topic, however, where he was very confident. He said that there's a 90% chance that Braden Smith will leave Purdue for major NIL dollars. Smith realizes that he doesn't have much (or any) future in the NBA. He plans to play overseas but doesn't think that he'll want to do that for more than five years. He realizes that his one opportunity for a major financial windfall is right now. He'll never have this opportunity again. He, or his agent, have been approached with offers of mind-numbing amounts of NIL bucks.

Take it for what it's worth...
Doesn’t PU have good NIL?

Ha. My sister in law teaches at EMU. And no, she isn't Mennonite. Despite the name, the school is kinda like IU East.

That's a super solid joke though.

Was there a loophole for Edey? I thought foreign players (Canada) couldn’t receive NIL money.
It’s because he was here on a student visa. Those kids can’t work for income. There are some limited exceptions e.g. specific types of work done at their school. They can’t even get a job bagging groceries for spending money. Kids get in trouble for this all the time because they just don’t understand how limiting the rules are.

Yeah, it was Gonzaga maybe? It was a nationally televised game and they probably droned on about his Mom the entire time.
Oh yes Edey’s mom. I doubt they feature her on Grizzlies telecasts.

They have a ton of Ja drama on that team.

Ware and Edey have very similar stat lines.

Other than some Pacer games and GS when TJD was playing, I don't watch much NBA. The Morant dude strikes me as equal parts dumbass and all star.

Good description-best I’ve heard. He didn’t come from the mean streets but from a solid family so don’t know where it comes from. Memphis on the other hand has some really mean streets. I guess when some people have enough money they just don’t give a s##t. Suspend me fine-I really don’t give a s##t.
