Purdue has only sold around 14k season tickets.

How many have you guys sold?

They have a lot of promotions going on for cheap mini packages that I get via email. They may not count those sales in these numbers.

I'm shocked it's that high. Unless they tie in with men's bball, that's about 14,000 idiots. Unless you are family of players, why would you pay to watch Hazzel run the program into the ground??

Because he's not running it into the ground?

I think it's early to decide on Hazzel. I think this year will be a telling sign for his progress. He doesn't need to blow the doors off but continue to show progression. He was down and out but did some things there midway through the season and through the conference that made you think he has a chance. You never know though, we'll see. If he comes in and they falter out of the gate the seat will likely get hot fast.

I've made that same post as you have under Lynch. Arguing it was too early to judge. Trust me, from the outside looking in and not with Boiler-colored glasses, Hazzel isn't the answer for your program. He's a good assistant coach, but he's not a good head coach. Bill Lynch fit that bill too, and sadly, so does Kevin Wilson at least so far. A lot of coaches are great assistants and mediocre to terrible head coaches. You'll see the light after this season, but unfortunately, he's not going anywhere. Your administration will give him another year or two and that'll be an even larger hole to dig out of. Wilson has at least recruited talent, but it just hasn't translated to wins on the field. Hazzel's has recruited some talent, but your depth is still not where it needs to be and there's questions at most positions. If you hang on to Hazzel, it could be 3 to 5 years before you are competitive again and that's IF he can pull it all together.

I'm not sure Hazzel is the answer up there at Purdue. I haven't been impressed by what they are doing on the field or in recruiting. The challenge I see ahead for Hazzel is that he might face the realistic probably of losing to Indiana 3 years in a row. No matter what is happening, that's not a good look for a Purdue coach. I know Hope wasn't popular, but I believe Hope had Purdue in 2 bowl games his last 2 years. Removing him for Hazzel has set the program backwards. Hazzel might prove he is the right choice long term, but the short term growing pains/results haven't been great. I just know I get concerned when people open up things at Big Ten Media Day with, "We added 400 pounds of lean muscle this offseason". That's such a BS thing to state/track because it's really meaningless without the context of how it compares to every other program. You might as well pull a Tim Beckman and talk about what your acronyms mean.

When I look at Wilson and compare him to Hazzel, I see some similarities. Both were obviously assistants at top flight programs. That experience never hurts. What I think Hazzel had an advantage over Wilson though was that he cut his teeth as a Head Coach at a lower level before stepping to the Big Ten. Looking back, I'm sure Wilson would admit he made some mistakes when he first took over the IU program. I think people always miss that some coaches can grow into a role. All I know though is both coaches better have a good season. Purdue has a nice benefit of being the West. I'd rather climb that mountain of programs/coaches versus what Indiana has in front of them.

Ultimately the AD will make the call in no small part based on attendance and while IU has kept up slowly, PU has continued to drop. I have been to four games up there in the past two seasons and if it weren't for visiting fans they could close off everything outside of the 30 yard lines.

yep. Their attendance has dropped dramatically over the past few seasons.

Maybe I should clarify. I am an IU fan. ha I can't stand Purdue. I also called for Lynch to be fired before he was even truly hired. It was ridiculous from the get go. That's all a moot point though, my point above was that I think it's still too early to count out Hazell. He has put himself squarely on the hot seat, for sure and really hasn't done anything to sell anyone but at the same time his team did perform well a few times against good opponents last year and that is what gives people at least some hesitation. I'm not proclaiming he's bound to pull through it but I'm also not starting to dig his grave just yet.

I agree with you 100%. If we have another poor year, he'll be done. He'll get 4 years probably but if we don't show improvement this year I think he'll be on his way out soon.

I have always found it more than a little odd that fans/alum of a school located in Indiana would make fun of farmers or ranchers. I could see the humor if the fans/alum were from a state that doesn't farm or ranch like....oh wait...there are no states without farmers. And can someone please explain to me why it's funny to make fun of farmers? How exactly is that funny?

It's a running joke that Rangeline thinks is hilarious. Whenever a Purdue poster replies, he either types Moooooo or posts a picture of a cow. Very original.

Sort of like PU grads making fun of world class musicians, singers, and conductors.

Sort of like Pu grads making fun of global business and environmental leaders.

Hope that helps.

Unless they tie in with men's bball, that's about 14,000.

I know that used to to be the case. If you wanted to guarantee your MBB tics, you had to get season FB tics. Finally, my dad got sick of watching Purdue get pounded and started buying his bball tickets from other John Purdue members.

I'd prove it to you, but I'm too nice of a person. I'll just let it go and be the bigger person. You can go on living your charade.

Nope, never disclosed here the gender of my PU kid. For good reason. I did once indirectly disclose the general area of study.

Have seen several of my many PU followers refer to my kid as both son and daughter.
