WBB loses to Butler tonight

Frustrating after the huge momentum built up over the past few seasons. IU can be one of the WBB powerhouses, we'll see how Teri learns/adjusts.
The issue is Moren was not able to translate that success into recruiting. IU's recruiting has been middle of the pack in conference at best and there have been no big time transfers since Parrish and she is struggling mightily without Holmes in the middle drawing the defenses attention.

and we lost the second best shooter in the BIG.

I went to the game, since I'm in Indy and it was so close. We looked like garbage. You would have thought they would come back strong after losing at home to Harvard. Going to be a long year.....

Yeah, but we've lost 2 "program leading, generational type" players in Grace and Mackenzie in the last 2 years. Syd, CMM and Garzon are all great players but haven't been vocal leaders. Was hoping one of them would step up or the transfers were, but I think that's probably what the team is suffering from more than anything. Frankly, it's what a lot of our men's teams have suffered from over the last 10 years. I think that's gonna be fixed with Rice this year, but it takes more than talent to make a great team. Something RMK and Painter have understood well, and I don't think our recent spate of men's coaches really have.

Agree with poster on recruiting. We have been a top program for several years and have not really parlayed that into better recuriting or portal wins. We were rolling and it would be a shame to take a big step back. That said, also agree that this team may figure it out. Moren has proven she can coach. She does need to recruit tougher and bigger players.

In a great girls bball state like Indiana, I've often wondered why Moren hasn't been able to recruit better.

This year will be a true test of how much influence coaching can have.
The preceding posts are largely correct. Moren recruits “coachable, high character, gym rat” kids (to quote words she has used). But when you look at nationwide rankings the top guys are not coming here. When she coached the U18 FIBA the kids that had not already committed did not come to us. I was disappointed in that.
We have a very experienced team. A team with good length across the positions. A team that will not get in trouble off the court. But we do not have speed, great athleticism, a player of the year candidate, or even a likely WNBA draftee.
It will be interesting to watch what the coaches do. Different offensive schemes? Different player combinations? Time will tell.

yeah she's got 2 goods ones coming in next year but overall since she's been here she hasn't done that well in her home state.
I believe Faith Wiseman was at or near the top of of Indiana High School rankings last year. That said, she's a LONG way from being any help.

She was 61 nationally. 22 freshmen in the Big Ten this year were ranked ahead of her including 5 to USCal and 3 to UCLA. UMich got two, both top 20. Iowa pulled two above her including AJ Guyton's daughter and then two more lower top 100 girls

What's your point?

Sorry, thought it was obvious, Moren is not keeping up with the top teams in the league in recruiting. This is a pretty typical result for her efforts. 13 of the 18 Big Ten teams brought in at least one higher ranked girl than IU did, including Rutgers and Northwestern.

Yes, it was obvious. Your point was to bash Moren. You should worry more about your coach up north. As we've seen with our current football roster, rankings usually are unpredictable and meaningless. A PU fan should understand this.

Sorry to light the fuse on your tampon, just was providing more context for those IU fans who don't deign to follow the women because they find them less interesting.
