Plant that flag Michigan!!! Love it! *

From yesterday. It's been going on forever. During play of the game, run up the score all you want, but don't be disrespectful once the whistle blows and the game is over.

Just my two cents.
If I played in that game I don’t feel like I’d have a choice but to plant that flag. I have a buddy here who graduated from osu. I kind of want to plant a flag in his yard

It’s not enough to do it on the field. You have to tell them. So they know

There are lines that aren’t to be crossed and result in penalties when they’re crossed during a game. Planting a flag at the center of an opponent’s field is a bright red line after any game. It’s the worst kind of sportsmanship and guaranteed to start a fight, which it did.

You think Coach Knight would have allowed anything like this from his players? Think Coach Cig would allow this?
Maybe the players should have sung their song after the game. Okay?

They’re defending it.
Not me. I’m saying ho-hum. That was spontaneous exuberance. Not a biggie.

Nebraska handshake refusal was planned by the team captains. Nothing spontaneous about it. If I were the coach the captains would have warmed the bench for a time.

When I was in college we won our first round tourney game and I saw our gk racing for the ball. He grabbed it and drop kicked it 75 yards on a rope. To this day it was the finest kick I’ve ever seen. Right to the entrance of the stadium. I thought wtf is he doing. Just before hitting the ground it fell beautifully in some kid’s arms. The kid then ran right out of the stadium with it.

His brother.

I’d have planted that flag then cut it up into pieces in the locker room for everyone to take with them for their office wall. Like @Noodle perfect lsat certificate

Fun fact: the IU cheerleaders all rush to the center of the court at SSAH after each game (especially losses) and stand their ground, to prevent the opposing team from stomping on or otherwise defiling the IU logo. This came about years ago after someone (Purdue?, I don't recall) did just that.

I think it’s much ado about nothing. Michigan earned the right to plant their flag. Ohio State should have kept running to the locker room in shame, as dogs with their tails between their legs. Let the victor enjoy the moment. If OSU doesn’t like it, then win the game like they were supposed to. Use the flag planting as incentive to win next year, if this act in jubilation hasn’t been forgotten by then, fully digested as a nothing burger and flushed, which it smells like to me.
There is no right to do that. Bob Knight is rolling over in his grave.

This isn't exactly s new or localized phenomena...

Exhibit A:

This stuff has been going on for at least a decade...

Personally, I don't condone it.*

*(unless it happens to "the" o-h-i-o $tate, Penn $tate, Michigan, or purdon't, in which case, humiliate them by all means possible is my motto)
It’s extremely rare and leads to fights nearly every time. That there was a rash of this yesterday is a reflection of growing Incivility which should not be condoned or tolerated.

Yes, it was Purdue we watched desecrate our symbol of pride at mid-court. Knight never mentioned the incident afterwards, just the pissed off IU fans having lost on our home court.

Well, considering he was buried upside down so critics can kiss his ass, it’s probably the right thing to do.

The word incivility makes it relevant. Minneapolis for example. (only 1 city of many) 350 million dollars, 22,000,000 sq feet commercial property. 1300 properties damaged of which over 100 burnt to the ground. Sorry, your right. I over exaggerated. The whole city was not burnt to the ground. But what happened yesterday is meaningless compared to the crap that has real every day consequences to peoples lives.
The incivility that upsets you and the incivility that upsets me are night and day different.

I thought that was poor sportsmanship. Doesn’t change anything about this.
Theres a whole lot of that going on in sports now compared to when I was young. I went to a high school that won the trophy every year (for 12 years straight) for being the best school in the conference when it came to sportsmanship. They quit doing that because no one could possibly win one shortly after I graduated.

I think not. I’ve been to five OSU-Michigan games, four IU-PU games and three UofL-UK games and never saw anyone attempt it. It’s exceedingly rare. The only time I recall ever seeing it was Baker Mayfield doing it when Oklahoma beat OSU. It’s a classless move guaranteed to start a fight with possible suspensions. If I was the Michigan coach I’d chew that players ass to make the point my team isn’t classless - and we beat their asses on the field where it’s supposed to happen.
Problem is the Michigan coach can't chew that player out for being classless since he himself joined his players in turning to the crowd and giving the mock wave as the clock ticked down.

I will say that the emotions had to be high for both teams after that game. OSU had to feel like they got punched in the gut and Michigan knew it. Making it 4 in a row when even they knew it was likely gonna be a loss had them floating in air. Eventually something really bad is gonna come from one of these skirmishes.

I dislike all Incivility. I’m not a hypocrite.

I linked an article showing that similar instances happened 4 times on the same day and you call that "extremely rare"(?)... 🙄

There are lines that aren’t to be crossed and result in penalties when they’re crossed during a game.
The problem with sports today is that those lines keep expanding so players/teams come up with some to expand the current lines. I would guess planting a flag like that will gradually become more common.... which is too bad in my opinion.
