Party Time

No idea. He certainly should have recreational time to enjoy life with.

He better be working his ass off to get guards for next year.
The guards played their butts off. Mgbako and Reneau don't get back on defense half the time.
Reneau, in particular, doesnt rebound. I would ask Race Thompson to go in the locker room and question the manhood of those 2 guys. One of those lapses in particular led to a foul by Cupps trying to stop numbers in transition. Fouls like that are critical parts of the game.
Every play matters when you are trying to win.

Why did IU keep going to Reneau when Adam's, at 6'7" with 3 fouls, was guarding Ware? Is our 7'0" post not capable of scoring against a strong and determined 6'7" power forward? And this guy thinks he's going pro next year? Is that Ware being weak or Woodson not recognizing the situation?

And why did McCullar not get exploited in the 2nd after picking up 3 reach fouls on drives in the 1st? Kansas had nothing after their starting 5. IU couldn't capitalize because the coaching staff failed to use that strategy to their advantage. They chose instead to go mono for mono against a team with deeper talent.

IU could have, and should have won that game. Kansas was terrible defensively. Indiana was getting the looks they wanted. Getting drives to the bucket with ease.

They just were not locked in defensively after building the lead to get key stops, and did not have good leadership (including Woodson) as the lead slipped away.
Knight would have absolutely buried that team.

Yes, this team needs more guards and more shooters. But if they don't:
1.) Play harder defensively, especially in transition (see TJD highlight video)
2.) Block out and rebound better (outside of Ware)
3.) Do a better job of closing out on shooters

If these things don't happen this team is sunk.

He’s on the phone with his agent and they’re all celebrating a 3 year extension.

Dan's point is that losing is not seen as that bad of a thing like it was during Bob Knight's tenure. I remember Dan saying that when Calvin Samscum was at IU and they would lose a game Cal had the same reaction, "we lost. ho hum. Now let's just keep going". People don't realize how nuts Coach Knight got when they lost. Just go back and listen to Coach Knight yelling at the team before a Purdue game. He said he was tired of an 8-10 record. He was tired of losing to Purdue. How many of you guys on here get really bothered when IU loses? Have we just resigned ourselves to IU just being another program or are WE IU?

Nothing special about Indiana anymore!

Dan is a coward. He waited until Knight was not up to it mentally to start attacking him.

Of course I get upset when we lose. But I still meet my friends. I still go out to eat. I still go to bed and so far the next day has come.

Wished I'd been invited to that group.
I'll bring the smokes next time.
And, Dickich, that looks like some nice scotch or bourbon.

What has Alford done that suggests he is or was the answer for IU? His coaching record is Crean-caliber. He won some conference championships and made the Tournament intermittently.

Your absolutely correct about Alford im just saying he would if been a better choice then Woodson.

We will never know what Alford would have done at IU. Probably wishful thinking but I think he would have killed it in recruiting and had a great career.

I get with the Pierce thing but what about every other coach in America I would take Beard in a second and he got charged for assault . I would hire Sampson back too..
I think 2 very different situations. Beard's was a domestic dispute at home and I don't recall if she dropped charges or there was not evidence to pursue, but it sounded like a he said/she said situation. In Pierce's case I think the biggest issue/concern was that he basically victim-shamed a rape/sexual assault victim, and as I recall met with her to try and convince her to drop charges or not pursue and then asked for her to meet with his minister? Long time ago, so I don't remember all the details, but I think there were reasons that Pierce should have been removed from the team prior. But, yes at this point I'd have no problem with hiring Beard and think he'd do well here. If I was AD, I'd be keeping lines of communication open with he and Dusty May and CMW about his intentions so I already had some names and a plan when CMW does retire.

He killed it at ucla. Didn’t change the fact his teams didn’t play defense. He had 4 top 10 classes, 2 were top 5 and the rest was no lower than 24th. Alford was worse than Crean.

We'll never know but some coaches are just meant for certain jobs imo. We just don't know what would've happened had Davis been canned after the Kent St game and Alford brought in. Would he have landed Sean May, Oden, Conley, the Zellers, etc? The state of Indiana was producing a boatload of talent. He might have killed it here.

But we have a snapshot of what he was. You Alford guys are funny. Like he all of a sudden becomes a great coach because…Indiana.

A huge problem for Alford was either: 1) he couldn’t teach the offense that made him the player he was, or 2) he wasn’t stubborn enough to implement and stick with it. He essentially outsourced all the offense to Neal….I never understood that.

It’s a recurring theme with all of Knight’s players….it shows his true genius in putting the puzzle pieces together and being able to build a team.

He, or one of his clones, is not walking back thru that door. The sooner the fanbase (we that saw what the program was) realizes that and accepts that certain things will never be the same…
