Yep it's an arms race and if you want to compete with the big boys you have to spend like them. Or stay on the front porch.

Tino was making about 550 and surely would have had a big raise, if I'm remembering the number correctly. Bostad and some other position coach got 200k raises. Total last year of Tino and Shanahan totaled a couple hundred k more than Haines. The same this year, Haines got the biggest single raise.

Just a couple years ago, we were paying Walt Bell, our offensive coordinator, 700K.
Paying our qb coach more then our oc from a couple years ago is what I'm excited about. It shows we're finally stepping up financially, which we haven't done in the past.
I would’ve traded Walt bell away for a tackling sled and a turkey sandwich…you get what you pay for

I won’t lie that this is a legitimate concern of mine. I have to imagine Cig knows far better than I do, but I hope his rep is built on more than just what took place working with Herbert. I’m put at ease knowing that QB just happens to be CCC’s specialty.
In addition to being the QB Coach, he is the co-Offensive Coordinator, too. I'm sure that factors into the salary level.
I guess an early positive signal is Mendoza liked him enough to commit. I'm guessing he was very focused on who our new QB coach would be.
I don't know the details, but Chandler worked with Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence in college too -- overall a nice mix of college and pro experience.
I'm still not used to seeing how much our staff makes... amazing.
It is good to see IU step up to pay coaches like a big-time football school.
Coach Cig still brags , or 'recruits on' , having coached Philip Rivers and recruited Russel Wilson. 20 and more years ago.
Got to have a Rivers, Wilson, or Herbert first. But once you have, brag about it a little... No way to know if any potentials of that level didn't make it due to coaching, but guys that succeed are a good sign.
I'm betting we got a fine coach. Proof will be in the pudding. Or winning.
