OT: UE fires Lickliter, entire staff

Crean's SEC mark in Georgia, is 15-57. Why would ANY school hire him?
Georgia has incredible high school talent, and Crean failed miserably.
Crean improved IU a basketball school. Maybe there is more difficulty to be great at a football school. I was always impressed with Thad Matta for doing as well as he did at OSU. One thing I have observed in life is success in one place or area does not guarantee success in another. The opposite is true too. Just because you fail in one place doesn't mean you have to fail in another place.

Fail was no doubt too harsh. I think both were fired but then most coaches get fired. I wonder what percent of coaches retire?
Crews was not fired. He left UE to go to Army after it came out in 2001 that the school was reviewing a move to D2 and/or D3.

Reverend, Crean did NOT improve IU. IU, a blue blood at the time, and Cream lost 12 in a row on his way to his disastrous year THREE! Crean sucked at Georgia. I like the Aces, thus NO to Crean. And NO to DD the dbag.

New Evansville AD gives pink slips to entire mens basketball coaching staff. 6-24 last year
I knew this was going to happen when they hired Lickiter. It screamed "we are broke, lets hire him". Maybe ten years earlier with Lickliter would have been a pinch better. Will be interesting to see who they can hire there at $500 k/best offer.

Lol In Washington IN where I grew up we either went to Vincennes or Evansville to, "do stuff". So we viewed Evansville as a happening place. I guess I really grew up in a Podunk town but never realized it.
Haha. I went to Muncie or New Castle to enjoy the scene!

You should have gone to Jasper. The Calumet was rockin'.

ARC Lanes was sure a fun place to hang out during HS years though spent more time on the pinball machines at Diamond Lanes. ARC had a really nice biliards area.

LIckliter had 1 year left on his deal and that was rumored to be under $300k. I don't think UE can afford anything close to $500k.

Are you old enough to remember when they had that large outdoor slide over there?

Yes. I also remember my dad bowling in leagues there in early 70s and some of my friends would go with us. We would go to the mall then go across the street (GR Road) to some school (Holy Spirit?) and play basketball in the back under the lights while he was bowling. Imagine parents letting their kids run loose like that now.

I also remember the HO race car tracks that were at ARC lanes behind the pinball area. I think you could rent a car for 30 minutes or an hpur or something. I think it eventually moved to a nearby strip shopping center that had an ABC department store.

Folks have mentioned the Ford Center in this thread. With actually living in Evansville, I've only been to the Ford Center one time. One time was enough for me... to know I won't be going back.

I'm 6'-3" and 250lbs. My seat was not comfortable at all... for a person of my size.

It was too narrow for my wide body and my knees were pressing into the chair back of the row in front of me.

Maybe for a person that is 165lbs and 5'-10" tall..... the seats may be great and they may have a completely different experience. I'm glad for them.

I'm just conveying my experience and opinion.

Haven't heard much on this opening, so did a little research and came up with this...

What about the guy (Greg Tonagel?) at Indiana Wesleyan, heard great things about him. I would think this would be a step up competition wise, but is he already in a better spot and would look for a better job? Assumed he'd have moved on by now, honestly.

This is the person who popped into my mind as a perfect fit. I've only watched a few of their games online, but damn his teams always seem well prepared and every coach I've ever spoken to pretty much gushes over him. You would think with his connections to HS coaches within the state, he would be able to bring some good talent to E-ville.

I'm from Tell City and a car load of us went to the Calumet a few times back in the 80's. Was always packed and wild. Had a blast as long as we didn't tell anyone we were river rats from Tell City. 😎
I never would mess with anyone from Tell City.

Ford Center was built for hockey. The end zones are too long for basketball. They needed more land to properly fit the upper level seats. They only have upper level seats on one end and the pitch is too steep. Many complain of getting dizzy when they are walking to their seats. The angle is so steep that the seat back in front of you only sticks up a few inchesmaking it easy to trip over.
The Ford Center was a rushed design in a space it didn't fit. Previous mayor had to have it downtown instead of closer to UE. Roberts was better for access, parking and had 4 entries and exits. There wasn't a bad seat in Roberts. The only thing better about the Ford Center is acoustics for concerts.
