OT: Kentucky One and Done has a nice Ride

Focusing just on money will make it certain that you lose it. The key is to see money as a tool. Too many of these lottery winners end up broke. We wonder why, how can they do this? The problem is they are just focusing on the money to spend it.
Proverbs 23:5 says When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.
stop preaching, hypocrite

I would think if a college athlete bought a $300K car before he was drafted, that would at least merit investigation. I just doubt that's the case and think it's far more likely his agent arranged for him to have a nice car to be seen in. Kids drive nice cars to prom too, but no one ever thinks they actually went out and bought them.
Not at all. Everyone after the season can do this. They just can't go back and play NCAA ball again. This is really simple.

No not really. Think about it... I as a booster promise to buy you a $300K car after the season is complete, and you think that's OK? How else do you think the kid is getting that kind of cash before he's drafted? Maybe if he signed some kind of endorsement, but that generally doesn't happen until after they're drafted. Kids getting cars, or houses, or seemingly large amounts of cash before they are drafted should get the NCAA's attention and should be looked in to.

You won't convince a uk fan they ever do anything wrong. In spite of seasons being lost (teams banned from play) they go on as if it never happened.

It's the entire state. In my lifetime I've seen them...
* Create documents out of thin air to ensure player eligibility
* Player leaving the scene of an accident with no questions asked
* Another kid found passed out drunk in the road at night by his car just outside the driver's side door (still open), with his girlfriend passed out in the passenger seat, in the middle of nowhere and the police said there was no need for a breathalyzer because there was, "...no evidence whatsoever he was driving."
* The DA in one area of kentucky said a uk player involved in a hit and run, "wasn't an ax murderer" to justify doing nothing
* And a player that some say could barely read and struggled through high school passed an Algebra 3 class, without taking Algebra 1 or 2, making them just eligible to play with a 2.5 gpa. This in spite of records showing he actually got a C and B in the two sessions of the summer school Algebra 3 class.

uk fans could not be more proud of all of these rather odd circumstances. You may have noticed their zero-tolerance policy after the death of one athlete quickly disappeared. That is uk basketball. So a player in a 300k car means nothing to them.

I can’t believe you would use an insensitive word like retarded! Don’t you have any feelings for the mentally challenged?

You know what the say... Sticks and stones will break my bones but words only offend pussies. Or maybe that's what I say, either or.

There's zero info on anything being promised to anyone. Your assumption is where you are wrong. You announce you are going pro, you get an agent, you get a loan. NCAA eligibility is up but nothing wrong or illegal about it. They get loans from agents all the time based on draft projections. I would say this is common practice. Just your premise of him being promised before hand is in no way proven to be true, even if you want to believe it. If he was promised ahead of time, then yes, it's an eligibility issue. There's nothing that suggests that since they all go out and get agents when they know they are not returning. He's projected first round-late lottery so there's not much of a gamble here for the agent.

And you know for a fact this is how the car was paid for or provided for? I mean, you're not making an assumption... right?

It's not normal for a college kid to be driving a $300K car... that's why it's on TMZ. I think it would be logical for the NCAA to make a call and get answers, and not make assumptions.

I know for a fact that no allegations have been alleged and it happens to potential draft picks all over the country. It's not a UK thing. It's a going to the draft to become rich thing. I know for a fact that you stated "I as a booster promise X" implying one thing and have no evidence to back up claims with a common practice that says otherwise. If there's evidence of wrong doing, UK and all the other colleges get a hit from the NCAA. If not, then they don't. This is really, crazy easy. You can't go on assumptions because you would like it to be true. KJ is no long eligible to play at UK. That's what we know. Another thing we do not know is if it's a lease, loaner, rental, or purchase.

So you think it's unreasonable for the NCAA to see a 19yo "student athlete" (yeah, I know it's UK, but humor me here!), 2 weeks removed from his season, but still in semester to place a call or 2 and inquire about how he's driving a $300K car in Hollywood? The reason it's "news" on TMZ is because of how unusual that appears. I never said it was or wasn't inappropriate and in fact if you'll go back and look at the thread, I think I was the first to suggest it's probably a rental provided by his agent, BUT, it should still raise eyebrows at the NCAA and warrant a call or 2. You'd make a really crappy cop: "Just because that OJ guy is walking around with blood on his hands and 2 folks are dead, no one's made any allegations of wrongdoing, so there's no reason to ask any questions." Just how long have you had season tickets at Rupp anyway?

I absolutely see nothing wrong with it if they are projected in the late lottery to first round. This has been going on for years now. Here's the scenario in your view. NCAA calls KJ or his agent. Where did the car come from? The agent loaned (Car or Money) to me based on upcoming draft. Okay but no more college for you. Okay thanks for calling. Do you really feel like they would ever take their time to call all first round projected players to get the same answer and then move on? They can't just harass 30 kids every year that are leaving college. They only have eligibility issues they can deal with. The players after the season don't even have to take their call. So no. This is not a rare or concerning issue. It's real life when you have real money coming in. BTW the OJ reference has to be the worst i have ever seen compared to a kid going to the NBA draft getting a new car. smh

On a side note, I'll take a bet that they don't get involved with this.

It's UK (or UNC... or AL, or UT... ), of course they won't get involved!. Again, if it's the agent, it's settled in 5 minutes: email over the receipt and we're good. I'm just saying it should merit a check to verify it's not from a booster. And, on the bigger picture, it's the NCAA and we're still talking about (cough, cough), student-athletes. It wouldn't do any harm to figure out a way to keep them from withdrawing from school before the end of the year and forfeit, half of their college education to date.

Oh, and there is precedent. Lance Thomas was investigated because he bought a bunch of jewelry a few years back. Similar situation. Part of the NCAA's duty is policing to insure it's rules are followed and a case like this should merit a check. I know, it's silly things like rules and impropriety that folks at UK don't like to get involved with or think about, but it still doesn't mean it would hurt to find a way to see if we can get kids more education. SMH indeed.

There's no allegation = there's no investigation.

And Hillary is the Christian choice? I do not buy it
when a ten year old girl walked by it was not her who looked her over and said in 10 years i'll be dating her. but, hey, if you want to overlook stuff like that and pretend you have christian values you go ahead. you are just proving my point

I think you are maybe a bit over the edge here. Your TDS is showing. VanPastorMan is a good poster on here and offers thoughtful opinions on the sport. You don't need to drag your politics into this discussion.

Sound like you are pretty touchy. In my humble opinion, we have allowed the media to vilify the other party. By "other party" I mean whoever you don't like. They are just politicians and should not be viewed as either saints or villains.

The people who are either Republicans or Democrats are not the embodiment of their candidates. I made my choice on the basis of the "lesser evil" but that doesn't mean I support every decision or policy of my candidate.

Emory package with cash.

Ya horrible time and low point for my program. But that was over thirty years ago. I think UK handle that well. Took a hit just like IU has. Only difference. UK didnt wait to become relevant again. UK has won three titles and multiple final four runs since then. Took the punishment. But never for a minute gave up or accepted that the program would become what IU has today. I believe UKs punishment was worse then IUs? No reason IU should be the third best team in its own state. Thats crazy.

People. Still have hippo eyes about two future millionaires riding around in expensive cars? Ya well it wasnt KJs car. Him and Herro got signing bonuses from agents. I think it was a couple hundred grand. My buddy got a hundred and fifty back in two thousand and two. He played football. So not uncommon for these kids to have a lot of cash before the draft. Plus all leaving players do a signing tour across Ky. AD got a hundred grand from one agent for three signing dates. Once the player signs with a agent. They can flaunt a million dollars in a suit case. No ones business. Why is this so hard to understand for some of you. Just because you create this senerio and opinion in your head. Dosent mean its true. Im not.even sure if just a conversation was had a year ago. But nothing changed hands. Not sure thats against the rules? Def hard to prove. All you have is maybe a verbal contract? But nothing on paper saying ill buy you a car if you sign with me. Honestly means nothing. Im not even saying that happened. A promise made. Both good kids. Worked butts off to live this dream. To have people try to make it dirty. Is just sad. Ya Ky produces youngmen who become wealthy the day they OFFICIALLY seperate themselves as a player at the University Of Kentucky. Ive seen it with every single player at UK who has graduated or left early. They all. Football players included. Make a boat load of cash doing these greet and meet tours around the state. People flock and pay to get pictures and autographs. Its crazy how many show up. So before you.destroy these youngmens characters. Maybe take the time to see if they bought, rented or just barrowed a nice car to take a photo with. And if your curious how they have cash? Maybe look into what they are doing to make cash right now. And look at what agencie they signed with. All give different signing bonuses.

And perfectly fine. He’s not coming back either. I would also make that my first purchase.
I would invest the money and drive my old car until it died. Then buy a new car on the interest money or dividend money, and still never touch my initial invested money amount.
