OT Fickell turns down MSU

Wow.

Narduzzi turned them down, too? Something really nasty must be hanging over that program . . . .

Will Mike Tressel take that job?

They'll soon work their way down the list to Gerry Faust ....

Serves then right,Dantonio is pond scum and holier than thou Izzo is not far behind.

Hate to say it but CKW might be a good fit. Gunslinger, has some attitude, hungry to be a head Coach again, and might be there type of guy? Coming from OSU does add some pixie dust to his resume.

Yeah, I could see that rationale. But he also has a mistreatment of players rep in his background.

Would that be a positive or a negative for MSU at this juncture?

Not surprised Fickell turned down, especially if sanctions coming. Will have his pick of jobs after next season, which on paper should be a good one for Cincy.

I am shocked Narduzzi wouldn't take it though.

Just heard Bielema name mentioned. Hadn't thought of that, but if he's interested, stay tuned...

Bielema was very successful at Wisc. before failure at Arkansas. MSU will need to close on someone soon, as alumni are embarrassed by the "ghosting"

Has there ever been any ACTUAL evidence that CKW mistreated players? I know there has been wink-wink hearsay, but has there been anything concrete? I know there were supposedly issues with the defensive lineman from Ohio, but Mike Leach put a kid in a shed and humiliated him for suffering from a concussion. He's had two P5 stops since then.

Just shows that anyone with any sense doesn't want to be associated with the cesspool that M$U has been outed to be...

Bielema would be a good fit for them (and that's no compliment)...

Beats me . . . that's why I said he has the rep, not that he engaged in that conduct.

If you've got better information, then by all means please provide it.

But there has to be some reason CKW is no longer at IU . . . and the scuttlebutt I've consistently heard on this site is that there were some rumblings about player mistreatment, injured players pushed to play too soon after the injury, potential legal claims for that treatment, and the like.

So no, I don't have ACTUAL evidence . . . I'm just an IU sports board poster . . . like you.

I'm not attacking you by any means. All I'm saying is that the University did not fire CKW with cause...which would absolutely have been the case if they had confirmed reports of what some of the innuendo is that flies around here...IMHO.

The cause was based on the things to his new regulations of his extension with the contract that he didn't follow about players. He showed he was an alcoholic with being banned from several bars in Bloomington and the way he acted towards people he saw beneath him. He resigned instead of being fired but the result is the same.

Here's the type of stuff I've read:

https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/12/1/13809438/kevin-wilson-resigns-indiana-head-coach

https://thespun.com/big-ten/indiana/why-kevin-wilson-fired-indiana

You're right, IU did not fire CKW for cause. According to the IndyStar article linked, Wilson resigned, perhaps when faced with the results of the investigation that IU performed regarding his treatment of players.

He doesn't go away on an $800,000 buyout because he has any leverage.

If he hadn't resigned, he'd have been fired for cause and got nothing.

Well I was saying in a few earlier threads that I thought Fickell leaving Cincy for MSU would be a bad idea and apparently he did too. :D
He'll win 11 or 12 games and make a decent bowl at Cincy. Then he'll still be a hot property for many top programs. I could see him at USC for example, if they part ways with Helton. That would be a much better HC job than at MSU. Especially as they're looking at possible sanctions.

You know....this is kinda' what I was eluding to a couple weeks ago when an MSU fan posted a very optimistic take on the situation: several years ago, MSU had the CHANCE, to clean house--in more ways than 1--& reset, & establish some class & decency in their football program, make things right. But nope. They sold their soul to win as many football games as possible. Well sweetheart, now the reaper is here to collect, & it's time to pay. You knew better. Everyone knows better. Don't look to me for sympathy.

Lol... I know money talks but you’re talking about a guy who is from Columbus (same HS as myself just 20 years between us) a 4 year starter at OSU and was a coach for 2 National Titles. There is no way in hell Fickell would take the Michigan job. Zero percent. USC probably.
OK, I'll see your hometown boy information and raise you . . .

. . . not an exact blueprint, but an Ohio boy can take over for Michigan . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Schembechler

. . . and an Alabama native and grad/player can take over for Clemson . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dabo_Swinney

. . . and an Auburn grad/player/asst coach can take over UGA . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Dooley

. . . heck there's even been a PU grad/player taking over IU basketball on the women's side . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teri_Moren

You might be right. But strange things do happen . . . ain't nothing that ain't possible . . . .

You’re points are extremely valid and sure anything is possible. I don’t see it with this situation so I’ll go from zero to .00001%. I equate it to Alford taking the Purdue job.

I think that Alford would take the PU job in an instant. He has be hating coaching at Nevada.

There is always somebody willing to take a P5 job, regardless of circumstances. PJ Fleck walked into an uncertain mess at Minny and turned it around pretty quickly. I suspect somebody will be willing to make the same gamble at MSU. Most of the potential problems at Sparty seem to be more legal in nature than NCAA violations that would lead to serious penalties. And I'm sure the league will go to bat for MSU just as it did for PSU. The B1G seems to have no problem defending pervasive despicable behavior. History shows also that getting rid of the offending head coach is a pretty good ticket to having sanctions diminished.

I think the article's author is a little over the top. His bitching about the offense leads me to believe he's more of a disgruntled fan than an objective observer. Besides, a whole lot of universities have incompetent ADs and rich, meddling, media-whore boosters.

What might make this job more unattractive than anything is having Dantonio still around looking over your shoulder and having the ear of administrators and trustees.

Well, Michigan State hold my beer, as OSU just had 2 DB's charged with Rape & kidnapping!! Both 1st degree Felonies!!!-Amir Rlep & Jahsen Wint.
Well, when I'm at the MSU football games at IU and MSU, I always scream at them to try not to rape anybody on the way back to the bus! I guess I'll scream that to O$U now.
